Anywho, I have a question for all those out there in builderville.

Is there anything to do when my canopies get frosted? I dipped them in future, masked and painted them, then did the unforgivable... used clear out of a rattle-can The harder I try the farther behind my modeling skills get

any words of wisdom will be appreciated, Oh BTW I found my USB cable for the camera.

nice build sorry to see your canopies are frosted up. i have heard oven cleaner will take paint off of a model i dont know what it would do to a canopy may melt it.

unfortunately the model is finished i would say  to order new canopies but i guess to late for t hat now.

Lord Kenny, I hope that you are feeling better today. I was in a car accident a few years ago and my back was really sore for a while and the following helped. Long soaks on a very hot hot bathtub, heating rubs (Flexall 454 really worked for me) light stretching to begin with, and the occasional beer. I will offer prayers for your healing.

thank you eric for the kind words. i pulled my back a few years ago pulling cable for verizon telephone and since then it has been hurting . but the real problem they found is that your tailbone is supposed to have a natural curve to it but mine is going straight which is putting pressure on my spine nothing they can do about it . life goes on and you deal with it :) as long as i can still build models i am a happy camper :)

Holly smokes!  that stinks.
I did that once on a biplane.   Fortunately it was not finished as well as your Mustang!

Here is my best suggestion: 
Purchase a vacu-form canopy replacement from squadron, then see what
parts of the frosted canopy you will need to cut out to get it to fit.  In the
picture, it kind of looks like part of the rear canopy wraps over the fuselage,
so you might have to use a dremel tool to cut the windows out.  Install the
vacuform pieces, gap-fill with "clear-parts glue" (PVA), add putty if necessary,
then sand and repaint the area.  It you do it right, it might look even better
than the stock clear parts.  These canopies are only $3. 

Let me know if you need advice. I've used a number of vacuform canopies
in the last 6 months.   What scale is your model?

By the way, what type of flat spray did you use?  That seems to have a
very nice flat appearance: better than what I'm using.

Thanks for the advice, it is 1/48 scale (any smaller and 3 pair of glasses would be the requirement.

The finish is rattle can Krylon matte from Miejer.

 Lord Kenny  with your permission 'o great one' I offer this advice to my fellow servants:

Tony, if the clear parts are removable then soaking them in brake fluid should do the trick (I've been  told it won't harm the clear plastic - never tried it myself though).  If you can't get those side windows out in one piece then just replace them with a clear piece of accetate.  Failing all else, sanding with fine grained sand paper (600-1200) and a couple coats of future will at least get them looking somewhat acceptable.

Il2windhawk, I use the model master clear flat coat with good results.

This is the finished product. it is a 00 (smaller than a dreadnought) based on a Martin 004 circa 1922

Would you believe that my job paid for the guitar class? It cost me $100 for materials. top is 60 year old spruce

sides and bottom black walnut, fretboard mahogany, nut is African ebony, top nut and bridge nut is bone (smelled like getting your teeth drilled at the dentist's) and the bridge where the pins go is East Indian rosewood. My instructor should be building model kits because I never heard ( "That's Okay, we can fix that." ) so much in my life.

Yes that is a brand new still shrink-wrapped good styrene smelling 1/48 Revell B-25 Mitchell.

I am finished with the Honey-do part of my vacation, she won't let me apply even the most basic weathering techniques on the wallpaper. I had the oil wash all ready when I heard the VOICE... "put the paintbrush down and step away from the wallpaper...worm!" When she leaves the house I sneak a pair of pants and wear them til she gets home

When I am finished I will post "The Friendly Confines" for comments.... I don't think a heavy oil wash will work too well on a paper kit.
