Ordered my Dragon 1/72 M4A3E8 Tuesday, so I should be receiving it sometime next week. Got some pretty good ideas about a base too, but I need to get my hands on a 1/72 figure that I can modify. I'm really excited about this GB! It's a very origional idea with tons of possibilities.

Sorry guys still haven't bought the 105 yet.  I have no money cause i just bought a $118 dollar head for my lacrosse stick.  That's the REAL dark side. hehe

But yeah I'm gonna try to get it in August and start in in November when Cross Countrys over, but I'll try to pop in every once in awhile.
Good Luck guys!

Got my Dragon 1/72 E8 in the mail today, along with a bunch of other goodies. Man, that is one AWESOME kit! Those Dragon 1/72's are absolute jewels! This is going to be a really fun build!

So bad news the VFW moved the 105 to the back where it just doesn't look as good so I'm gonna have to change my build.  I'm gonna go up to Quantico Wednesday and see what kinda tanks they have up there still in place.

Hi,

here's a quick update photo of the progress on the Hurricane this weekend. It's a pretty straightforward kit so far. No detail in the cockpit though, hence the quick progress. The 2 wing tops don't quite match up with the one piece bottom, so I have changed the build sequence slightly. A fair bit of flash to deal with, especially on the small items.

I got the cockpit finished and the fuselage was closed up after the pic was snapped.  All OOB so far, closed canopy so no extra deatil besdies what's already there.  And since it will be a show bird... no weathering...  YIPPIE!

Lookin' real good so far Marc! Thumbs Up [tup] ....and I can't even remember the last time I built something and didn't weather it. LOL!

I've opened the box on my E8....great little kit, with some of the finest small-parts molding I've ever seen. You should see the spade handles for the .50 Caliber! Unbelievable! I'll have to leave quite a few of those parts off of this one, but I plan on building another one fully loaded.

LOL! The mini-me will be a challenge. The bag and its contents (courtesy of our shopping trip through the Chinatown section of Vancouver) will be my wife's contribution. Wink [;)] She really is quite talented. Smile [:)]

I've even been toying around with the idea of including a mini Mrs. Mike in my dio, showing her taking the actual photo. Just need to find the figures to modify.

This afternoon I looked out the window to see the mail being delivered.  I was happy Smile [:)]to see the new issue of Air & Space magazine.  I was also happy to see there is a photo of a shiny beautifully reported P-51Big Smile [:D].  I said to myself, "Isn't that interesting, someone has restored a P-51 with the same markings as the Kermit Weeks bird I am doing for the Once Were Warriors GB."  I flip to page 40 and I was no longer amazed at the coincidence.  The plane IS the Kermit Weeks P-51Shock [:O] but it does not have the tail filletConfused [%-)]... like the model I am build has.  I pulled out the photos I am working from ... and have looked at a dozen or so times... and no tail fillet.  So I have to start over for this build.

The good news is when all is said and done, there will be 2 new P-51's on the shelf.Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

But still ... I have to PAY ATTENTION!

That's a bummer Marc!  It's no fun to have to start a project over.   Here are a couple of pics of my Dantless, sorry about the quality of the photos but I am still trying to read the one-inch-thick owners manual!  I have finished up the interior, and glued the fuse halves together.

It's mostly out of the box, except for the pilot's seatbelt from Eduard.  I made the gunner's belt from tape, as it is buried so deep in the cockpit that you can barely see it!  I also purchased the Eduard PE dive flaps for it, as I melted one of the kit parts trying to straighten it in hot water.

I think I was using the cornbread recipe instead of the part straightening one...Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

Another progress photo - not much further on from last weekend. The top of the wings are on a a few small bits of filler applied around the wing joins.

Careful Frank, those hot skillets will get you every time.  'pit look good.

Progress is progress Paul... looks good.

Here is my Mustang all shiny and black in prep for the Alclad. The 1st P-51 can be seen in the background.  I have been working on that one while I wait a week or so for the black to completely harden.

Paul-

Looking good!  Always liked like the brutish looks of the Hurricane with the cannons- looks like it really means business!

Marc-

Ahhh...Hmmm... how to say this...it's supposed to be SILVER, not black.  Me thinks you misread the directions again. Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

J/K looks good!  One of these days, I gotta do a NMF!!!

Nice progress, guys! That's some really impressive stuff I'm seeing.

Frank, NMF's used to scare the heck outta me, so much so that I would seek out alternative paint schemes to avoid doing them, but Alclad II has me actually looking for subjects to paint that way. That stuff is awesome!

OK, one of these days I'm gonna take the plunge and do a full NMF.  If we do a Japanese GB next year, maybe I can start out by doing my first NMF under some paint for a REALLY chipped Ki-84.

SILVER...DOH!Big Smile [:D]  I wouldn't say I go out of my wat to do NMF but it does nto scare me as much as it used to.  Well... this one is a little...Sigh [sigh]

Mike I have been meaning to mention that I love the quote in your sig.  Great flick.  I love it when they sqaure off gunsliger style with the Tiger.  Gotta go rent that one.

Frank, a Ki-84 would be a great subject for a NMF! One of the current GB's I'm in has me doing a NMF on an F-51 'stang. My next one will be on my Trumpeter 1/32 MiG-21MF. I just need to find some Soviet markings for it, as the kit only provided German and Iraqi insignias.

Marc, that is one of my all-time favorite movies. Thumbs Up [tup]  I have it on DVD and watch it at least once a month. It's one of those movies I never get tired of seeing. That scene you mentioned is classic!....right out of those spaghetti westerns that Eastwood used to do! One funny note about that quote....when my wife read it, she had no idea it was from a movie. She thought I was referring to modelers and their airbrushes! Wink [;)]

Marc-LOL good luck, can't wait to see pics of her finished!

Mike- Is that one for the MiG Killers GB?  I may have to keep an eye on that GB so I can see her all dressed up.

OK guys, what movie are you referring to?  Now I wanna go see it! Big Smile [:D]

OMG  Kelly's Heroes is such a great movie!  I got my wife to watch that with me last year and she loves it!  It's the only "war" movie I can get her to watch with me, but hey, I never get tired of watching it.  I remember my brother and I watching it with my Dad every time it came on TV.  Great memmories with Dad.  Big Smile [:D]

Yep, that's the one, buddy! Goin' hog wild on this one! Lots of Eduard PE, a Black Box 'pit, and a neat set of unshrouded resin exhausts from Ultracast. I've already posted a few progress pics over there.

....and......Rent That Movie!! You'd love Kelly's Heroes! Thumbs Up [tup]

Mike- I took a looksie over at the MiG Killers GB, and MAN!!!  That cockpit of yours is absolutely UNBELIEVABLE!  I would love to sit down and watch how you do it.  Ever think of making your own "how-to" modeling videos?  I would buy one!  Way to go buddy, your skills leave me in awe. Bow [bow]

I also put a hold on "Kelly's Heroes" from my local library, and it should be in next week.  I'll report back after watching it.

Frank, I can't begin to tell ya what a boost it is to hear praise like that from my fellow modelers. Never thought about the video thing, but that is quite the compliment. Thanks, my friend! Thumbs Up [tup] For us wing nuts, the 'pit is one of the few places we can go all-out. I probably spend as much time building the office as I do the rest of the model (unless the engine is also showing). Wink [;)]

...and enjoy Kelly's Heroes, buddy! I'm very curious to know what you think of it.

Mike-

Well deserved, my friend.  You have a real knack for the subtleties of shading and high-lighting using contrasting as well as similar colors.  I have been studying your F-51D 'pit photos trying to determine exactly what colors you used, so that I can try to emulate your work on my next project.  PM inbound!

I am excited to see Kelly's Heroes with all of the praise it has received!
