Once Were Warriors-7/1/07-7/31/08

I finished it today!  Well, still have to finish the little wheels block parts and the base.  But, the airframe is done!  Must admit, it felt awfully strange not weathering the beast.  Which, I must admit, is one of my favorite parts of a build.  But alas, this is how she appears at the NASM so that is how I modeled it.

Here is what I used/did:

Paint is Gunze on the bottom and MM enamels on top.  OOB except for tape seatbelts.  Swastikas from Eagle Strike sheet as the kit ones were different than what I needed.

I started on the base today, and realized that the little wheel stands for the main wheels are not going to work.  They are supposed to fit up between the tires/wheels and the gear doors, but the way the kit is made there is -0- space between them.  If I tried to make something thin enough, it wouldn't support the beast.  So, it looks like a slight change of plan.  I am going to model it with a tow-bar on the nose wheel and sitting in the grass next to an apron (minus the building in the background!).

A quick update - the Hurricane is almost finished. The canopy needs cleaning up big time. The tape was on way too long and did not seal well. The photo didn't come out too well I see.

The Spitfire is not too far behind; half the decals went on tonight. The Lancaster will have to wait a while though as I want to use some canopy masks for all those small panels.

The Spit is 99% finished now, just an aerial to add. The Hurricane needs the canopy repainting and I'll do that when I have the energy for it. The Lancaster will have to wait a while I am affraid.

It's good to see you again!  I am glad to hear that you have a good prognosis, and will be able to return to bench.  Looking forward to seeing your work!

No worries about not being around.  Not like you didn't have a more important reason.  We are very glad you're still "around".  Look at me... it's my GB and here I am posting extremely late.  Shame on me. And the end date will be the day you finish.  We'll call it the liveline. 

AJB too bad about the kit.  Whatever you decide on is OK.

Just wanted to share- my entry for this GB won 2nd place at our show last week for 1/48 Axis multi-prop.  WOOHOO!

detailfreak- Why, thank you very much!  I almost didn't take it to the show, as I didn't think it would do well anyway.  I'm glad I did!  It was cool to see another one there in the same camo, but different markings.  Anyway, here are some more pics, enjoy!

In the model description, did you mention that it was built to match the NASM Do 335 and include a photo of the real deal?

Well the build is still open if any one wnats to keep it going but it did fizzle out a bit.  But built it, and them kick m in the butt to remind me

Thanks Marc!  I did put a photo of the real aircraft next to the model with an explanation that it was built to represent that aircraft as seen today- "incorrect" colors and all!

Cromwell in Israel. I have been trying to find a GB to do the Cromwell, in 1/48 plenty of time to do a simple sand base, no decals AND it looks like I will be able to save lots of the little parts JUST IN CASE for the next time I build one

 ajb93...good job on keeping up with the search.  Now cut the sprue and spread the glue. (Hmmm.. kinda like that one)

Well, this appears to be the GB that never ends

I honestly thought that since it was past the end date my Lanc would have to wait, but that appears not to be the case. I guess I had best get it started...today I hope. I have some PE flaps for it and a few basic cockpit and airframe PE items. It's the Airwaves set - not in the same league as Eduard PE, but it will add a bit of interest - and time. I also have an EZ-Mask set to help me with all those canopies.

WingNut, thanks for letting me know about the photos on your site. What do you think of doing a Once Were Warriors II? April to Dec 2008? Just a thought, since there is now 2 builds about to start.

A long time back I changed the end date to jult 08 but just realized that I never changed the subject line. [FIXED]  We can work out a new name for the extended version later on if we need to.

Sonow it's just a matter of which post that gets a responce to have the current subject line.
