Jaypack, welcome.  I'm working on the Eduard P-400 also.  Probably one of the best engineered kits I've had the pleasure to work on.  Sorry about the charging handle.  Wish I had a replacement to give you, but mine was the basic kit without PE.  Planning on fabricating something for the charging handles, maybe stretched sprue.

yeah, it was one of those. It's weird, though, because I tried re-creating the accident by dropping the other handle onto the floor several times, and every time I found it within a few seconds, all within the same area (it doesn't seem to bounce), but no matter what I tried (I even went over the whole area under my desk with a magnifying glass), or how long I looked (almost 2 hours) , I still cannot find it. I might try vacuuming the area, and then looking in the bag, but I don't think it'll work. If you could spare one of the parts, that'd be awesome.

Oh yeah, thanks for letting me into the build! Big Smile [:D] I think I'm doing the -D first, since I need to do some more research on the colors used on the camoflaged P-400s.

-Josh

Current Builds: If I were to list everything I have in progress, it'd take way too long! Some notable inclusions:

Hasegawa 1:48 KI-84

Tamiya 1:48 P-51D (in Iwo Jima long-range escort markings)

4 (yes, four) Tamiya 1:48 F4U-1s (1x -1D, 1x -1A, and 2x -1s)

O.K. I've been working nights and my wife is at work all day long so I am able to do more modeling than usual without distractions i.e. honey do's.  Here is where I am.

this is #3 since getting back into it after 15 years

Looking good, newguy. I like the weathering effect! How has the kit gone together so far?

Nice Barry... very nice.

Jaypack... if you do the vacuum thing, take one leg of a pair of pantyhose and let that go down the vacuum pipe a few inches.  That way of you get the part it will be caught in the pantyhose instead of going all the way down into the bag.Yuck [yuck]

Thanks, the kit fits really well although it looks as if I might have a little problem with the canopy and door fit, nothing that can't be fixed though. I actually forward dated the p-400 Hasagawa to a Q a couple of minor inaccuracies but oh well no one is perfect.

Of coarse Im still trying to compile my report for the press conference on Saturday. If the west cost office (Ed) had not "lost" the memo this thing would have been done by now. LOL

Phew! I got the memo in the mail today...thanks Dave!

I am readyto attach the fuselage pieces, but before I do so, here are a few interior pics.

The pics made me realize a little more wash might help pick out some details, and I still have some masking tape reside on the glass panel behind the piot seat.

Oh yeah...and the masking tape belts. PLEASE do not let me forget to add some nose weights, either! (My famous last words)

I chose to drybrush the IP. There were no decals in the AM, which is the only disappointment with the kit so far, and I don't feel like waiting a week or so to order a PE fret.

Let me know your opinions on the interior color...supposed to be Bronze Green FS34092...

Update on the P-400.  Just about got the cockpit done.  Since I took these photos, I've applied a black wash to the cockpit, but I think I went too far with it.  Pics post-wash didn't turn out.  I hope to have the pit and fuselage glued together by tomorrow.  Maybe some more pics then.

Note my pathetic attempt to fabricate seatbelts.  Next time, I'll pay the extra for the PE.

I drybrushed the radio and instrument panel with Dark Ghost Grey, then added a drop of future over each instrument.  First time I tried the Future trick, looks nice but didn't show up well in the pics.

Well in my own recent experience I have come to learn that the color I am seeing is probably not the color it realy is so.........It looks like green to me. By the way my report will be filed today after the press conference.

It looks good to me. The pannel looks just fine. The only thing I can see with the belts is that the shoulder belts might be a bit to wide, but then again im not an expert on them. I wouldnt try to redo them or anything as once you get everything together they will be ok. Just my My 2 cents [2c]

Mucker, coming along nicely!  I think the green looks fine.

Dave, your right, the shoulders are too wide, and probably the laps too.  I tried to match to a pic in Details and Scale, think I got the colors close, but overestimated the width.  Live and learn.  After this GB though, there's going to be alot of P-39 experts roaming the forum!

Jeff:

When I saw your post I thought I was having about of deja vu! nice looking interior so far. Is that the nose weight in the front? I'm jealous...I didn't get one!

As for the seat belts, did you see the Hyperscale.com article a few days ago? It's probably still posted. I'm going to give ita shot sometime this weekend.

Keep the pics coming.

Oh no, Dave. I just saw the headlines scroll on CNN, and Geraldo goes on Fox News tonight with a ground breaking story on the "Davew6003 P-49Q". There's a mole in this GB...someone leaked the story. Not to mention any names, Hippy-Ed, but just how tight is the West Coast Office security? Hmmmm? I thought I heard waves in the background when the "anonymous source" was on tape telling the story...
