Contact the Red Cross and have them standing by with a unit or two of blood in case you get really carried away with the X-Acto knife.  Good luck on the P-39.

Hey guys. Wow, i haven't been here in a while. I have an update on my A-10 Warthog. I have all the main pieces together and just sprayed the first color, light gray. Of course something had to go wrong! After spraying the sides of the aircraft, I looked at it from the top and realized:

I didn't mask the cockpit!!!!

I'm lucky I left out the dash and seat. Now I have to go back in and re-paint it. Ahh!  I'm using testors enamel spray cans for this. My airbrush's spray is way to narrow. I think something is wrong with it, but it's like a $30 crappy double action so I'm not too motivated to try and fix it. You can't find replacement parts anywhere.

Tschuz!

Nuts!

scott thanks for the kind words.

an update.  the alclad is on.  the landing gear and the outer doors are on.  the rudder is black and the anti glare panel has one thin coat on.  that takes me through step 5 with minor exceptions that need to be added after the decals.  added detail.....brake lines.

those three with lights on and one with lights off.

next update will have the decal work.

kit used:  revell/monogram 1/48 b-17g

conversion used:  koster aero enterprises b-17c/e conversion

my indepth instructions.

now my screw up.  i messed up on the clear part for the cockpit.  i have to order a replacement.   teach me to not read the instructions the fortieth time.

Fightnjoe looking good keep it up that is a fun conversion. I did one using the Revell B-17F. Here's how it turned out.

Fightinjoe, I've been following this on the LEM as well, and I feel your pain. You are a braver man than I Gunga Din; I can't bring myself yet to cutting up a model like that for a conversion. Still, you are making great progress and I'll keep watching this with interest!

fightnjoe, you are one brave hombre. I would have puked about a dozen times cutting up a kit like you did. I still feel sick when looking at your photos.

Hey Espins! I believe you'll be allowed in. It'll be good to be in another Group Build with you. I'm looking for a second Revell kit to start for this. I think I found it in the Revell/Monogram 1/72 scale B-25 Mitchell.

Hey Duke, thanks for the warm welcome.  Smile [:)]

I double checked my Me 410 kit, it's a Revell.  I'm tempted to do the the variant with the 50mm Cannon in the nose just because it looks so cool!  Cool [8D]

Cool! I took another look at my Mitchell; it's an MPC kit, in the original MPC box. So, it won't be for this Group Build; I'll have to finad another kit for that. Still, I've been itching to build one of these B-25's so this itch is gonna get scratched very soon.

Joe,

The P-51 finish looks really nice. Thumbs Up [tup]  I rarely see any Alclad where I am, it is even rare to see it at the shows that I go to.  I am wondering how it works (isn't there a base coat that has to be applied first?), and how it compares to Testors Model Master Metalizer line (which I am a fan of).  That B-17 is also quite a project, and I will also look forward to seeing the results of it as time goes on.  I started a little work on an F-14 A to D conversion for the 1/32 Tamiya kit a while back, and I ended up in one spot making my own part with sheet plastic rather than cutting out plastic and attaching resin pieces.  Even with 35 years of building experience, I am not completely comfortable with major conversion work, so my hat is off to you.

Duke, how about helping me get in too.  I got started on the PBM and noticed that the copyright is dated 1957.  These old kits are crude but with today's techniques and tools (airbrushes) they can be made to look pretty good from a distance. Here is the start of my build.  Greg

Do the best job you can then be proud of your efforts.

I have finally finished the Convair F-106 Delta DartParty [party]. I used Eagle Strike decals to model it as a jet from the 460th Fighter Interceptor Squadron, Grand Forks AFB, North Dakota, 1972            I lightly weathered it using pigment powders, then washed off most of it as these planes were kept in very clean condition. I sanded and rescribed all panel lines and Banged Head [banghead]puttied and sanded and Banged Head [banghead]puttied and sanded and Banged Head [banghead]puttied and sanded. This kit basically gave me fits Boohoo [BH]and I thought I would never get it to look decent. I learned a lot about puttying and sanding and repairing broken parts. The struts for the wheel doors came off an old Dart I built last year. I broke all 4 of them off during the course of the buildSigh [sigh]. I had to drill out and install brass rod for the fuel tanks because I broke them off tooDunce [D)]. I also broke the pitot tubeYuck [yuck].

Let me know what you think, Thumbs Up [tup]good or badThumbs Down [tdn], how I can improve, any tips etc. I really earned this group build badge. The kit qualifies for a purple heartBlindfold [X-)].

Sounds like a tough build Tony but the results look great. I got a little more work done on the Phantom. It's painted and glossed ready for decals.

Nice work on the Phantom.  One suggestion.  Cut off those two pitot tubes on the front of the vertical stab, drill a small hole and replace with a cut off straight pin.  The real ones are natural metal anyway and the pins look much better than that lump of plastic.  Put the pointy end out, but be careful when handling or they will "bite" you.

I'm getting some good progress on my Intruder.  My plan is to display it on an aircraft elevator, so I have spent some time gathering the needs for that, including references (thanks to all that have helped out!).

I have the Verlinden update set that includes PE for the cockpit, canopy and the crew ladders, as well as resin replacements for the cockpit tub, avionics bay, and seats.  I have the tub and seats done, have pictures that I will post tomorrow. (Need to reshoot the office, since the pics are blurred.)

The exciting part, to me at least, is that I am scratchbuilding a wingfold set for the composite wings.  I am doing the Main Battery VA-196 CAG plane, and it is a later aircraft.  I have the wings prepared (cut and shaped), and I will grab some progress pics of those, too.

Tony,

The F-106 really looks nice.Cool [8D]  Even with the challenges that you encountered, I would say that the end result was worth it.

Joe,

Your P-51 also turned out looking great.Thumbs Up [tup]  I thought that it might be a little too shiny with the photos the other day, but with all of the markings in place, it looks pretty sweet!

My 427 Cobra is now finished. I had some trouble with the decals, to the point that the markings on the car are not quite accurate. There's a white stripe on the side of it that goes from forward of the doors to the very rear of the fender, and I tore the first decal badly. I just couldn't get that back end to move around where I needed it, no matter how much water I laid down. I trimmed the stripe so that it ended at the forward curve of the back fender, and did the same with the other side before even trying to apply that one. Though it's not what it should be, it does look pretty sharp.

I had some tearing and lay-down problems (again, probably my fault, not Revellogram's) on the racing stripe on the top of the body, but Micro Set, patience and (in the case of the hood) white paint solved it all. There are still a couple of blemishes, but the recipient might not even notice them.

Now, on to the F-106.

Good luck on the F-106 you will need it.

Remember, God loves children and fools and F-106 builders fall into both categories, I know, I am one.
