BIG NEWS! (mea culpa) ROY! I was totally off base voting for the F-4J.........I thought it was a Phantom variant

Same here, Roy. Oooooops. Still, as nam said, the FJ-4 is a nice looking jet, and so inspite of my total ignorance in regards to anything that flew after 1920, my vote still stands! Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

Dave, great work (as usual) on the Fulmar! Thumbs Up [tup] Your painting skills have always impressed the heck outta me, so I know I'm in for a real treat when you post one of your builds! As for the Future/Flat base, I start with a ratio of about 6 parts Future and 1 part Flat Base and go from there. My flatcoat of choice is Pollyscale Flat, but I always keep some of the Tamiya stuff around for emergencies.

No worries Nam! Thumbs Up [tup]

Thanks Mike!  It was a lot of fun to do, though it took a while with all of the layers.

Roy,

Couple of different ways you can use it:

1.)Just roll it out into a thin rope and arrange on the model. You can use tape or paper to cover the areas you don't want to paint. The diameter of your rope controls the degree of diffusion.

2.)Rather than holding the paper mask with your fingers, roll the Handitac into thin "snakes" and apply it to your model.  Then take your paper pattern and apply it to the top of the putty so that the paper is held only a milimeter or two off the model.  Spray your paint making sure your AB is pretty close to a 90 degree angle from the surface.  That should give you a fairly nice soft demarcation line.

Hope that helps! Thumbs Up [tup]

Hey guys, just want to let you all know that I'll be taking a bit of a vacation from the boards. Everything's cool....I just can't seem to be able to balance what free time I have between the forums and the workbench, so I am going to try a self-imposed sabatacle of sorts. Hopefully I'll have a few things to show for it when I get back. Save me some rum (if that's possible! Tongue [:P] ) and I'll see you soon.

Ruddrat......miss you already!

Darran....nice work on the logo!

Personally.....once I 'finish' getting my workbench in order today (I hope), and stop building things on my bed(!).....I'm afraid I won't get to hang out at FSM as often! Workspace is in the basement.....(sigh) PC, alas, is not.

I really envy those modelers here that show pics of a workstation.....with a PC in the same room!

Cost of Hobby UPDATE!: Since approx. November 1st, 2007 my total financial outlay in order to get back into this hobby.....$762.35.....stash kits, paints and other supplies, tools, workbench and spray booth.

Hmmm.....not that bad when I check the inventory!

Yes Frank, I put Barney back in the sig picture....he's cuter, and I love his SG radar ear deployed like that!

Well guys! Having a comfy Sunday(despite snow removal)? Here in CT we have a winter storm warning  going on......anywhere from 6-18 inches forecast now. Not the same storm as Frank's....a 'classic' nor'easter they are saying.

I have my Sev P-35 'practice model' ready for final paint, and am practicing on scrap junk for a NMF. There are many pics that I need to collate in case anyone wants to see them down the road. Cockpits and motors are a blast! I love cockpits and motors. (just want to reserve pics until final paint is done, this being my first real kit build in 20 years)

As mentioned, I finished the workbench! No WIP pics....but will shoot some after I move some things about and hang a couple shelves and 'stock' them!

Paint booth should be done Wednesday night so I can paint the P-35 properly (I've been busy with 'side jobs' to fund my modeling)

Yeah, yeah....long winded Nam! My FAA Sea Glad is in initial stages (can't wait to transfer it downstairs and get serious!) There will be WIP pics for that......I'm sure I'll learn a lot....and not afraid to.

FAW project (TBD)....since I have much time, going to build a yellow-wing for skill sharpening and then devote much love to a Tex Gay TBD with PE stuff.

Shovels, salt and sand at the ready. Bring it on!

Yikes!  Between 6 and 18 inches?  If I were you, I'd move.  If I even MENTIONED that much snow in front of my snowblower, it would probably leave and ne'er return. Laugh [(-D]

At least you have the snowblower!

I have a buddy that plows my drive....but I have to shovel the deck and front walks....eh! so what? I don't mind the snow....I just hate the cold!

Just now.....NWS has revised snowfall from 4 to 20 inches! What the heck is that? Lower the minimum and raise the maximum???

It'll probably rain!

Model question (really?) Has anyone tried Gerry HawkeyeHobbies NMF paint?

YIKES!!!  I'd start packing and move south if I were you.  As for the Hawkeyes Talon series NMF acrylic paint, I bought some from Gerald a month or so ago but haven't tried it yet.
