Attention on deck,

this is the Captain speaking.  The XO will be around to unlock the rum locker.  Seeing how this is the holiday season I feel that a 4 day pass is in order.  The CAG will assign the weekend watch.  That is all.

Evil Herc you're good! Hey buddy; some of us have gotten a little, ummmhhh???, forgetful in our age. It is a good idea to give us droolers a one liner in your new posts, ala "Here's WIP pics of my _____", because it's hard to remember after all the Rum!

Welcome aboard, and thank you very much for your service.

It's Friday, ARRRGGGGHHHHHHHHH CAG give this man a rank and a cup o'grog!

Edit: this is you, correct? Hasegawa F-14a Low Vis kit in 1/72. That last part makes me cry seeing that 'pit. I really woulda guessed 1/48!

Well Bondo! You have to go back and find your inner self. Think back to when you were at woodstock. AN even flame with no breeze and a stick of sprue. Just hold the sprue over say a lighter or candle above the flame about an inch or so. Shouldn't see smoke. Rotate the sprue with the fingers and eventually after about 15 to 25 seconds it will melt. Has to melt to the point where it cannot support itself then grab both ends and give an even pull. Should make a  nice thin string of plastic. Don't pull to hard but pull even.  Different sprue has different results. Some can be nasty to breath.

The most important part is to rotate the sprue like a rotisery chicken so it won't burn. When it looks mushy or falls over bending just pull evenly. I can get some very thin now.

Holy cow! Marine building a model!!!!!!! Here! I thought we were safe from their red Horde!!!!!!

Great work though  Herc! I'm gonna call him nice Herc as  he is a Marine they don't have the proper training to be evil! Make a Toast [#toast]Laugh [(-D]

Evil, use some stretched sprue glued inplace.  I'll try to describe it.  Stretch it so it's about the same size of the panel line.  Make sure it's longer than you need.  Holding it at both ends run it through a puddle of supper glue.  Get rid of the big globs still on the line.  Hold it tight over the panel to repair nad in one motion lay it down so the ends overlap.  Get it in one try and don't move it once it's in place.  If you get it wrong, let it dry, sand to remove and try again.  If it's good trim the ends and then sand smooth to blend.

I got this method from a modeling book and have used it myself.  It does work.  If you try this let us know how it worked for you.

I've done it with 2lb test. The only problem there is it can't be sanded as well. Someone teach me how to stretch sprue- all I ever get are two candy canes on fire!

Evil- I can't wait to see your cockpit!  Hame-made PE, sounds a treat!

As far as the raised panel lines go, I have used a few techniques.  You could use a scribing tool to re-scribe a section of it, holding the tool at an angle to raise a bit of the plastic to blend the portion in.  If it's not a very prominant one, you could remove the line altogether.  Or, unless you are looking for it, a recessed and raised line will be almost indistinguishable from each other under a coat of paint.  HTH! Thumbs Up [tup]

Happy Friday from OkinawaParty [party] time to start the rum Pirate [oX)] a flowin.

well i have been modifying this kits simple cockpit with my own scratchbuilt PE. will get some pics up soon. the seats have been painted.

The main aircraft body is in 2 pieces & went together fairly well. there are a few spots to fill and sand. This is where i am running into a problem Banged Head [banghead], this kit has raised panel lines, what do you do to replace them? I do not want to have to rescribe all the panel lines, will it look strange to have raised and scribed panel lines?

Cheers, Evil
