St. Nazaire was the raid. There's a thread about such things in "ships". makes me want to buy the kit, but there's the old Revell tanker and troop transport sitting in the stash, not to mention a just started Trumpeter USS San Francisco, so bad Bondo, put away that wallet.

I think I know that carco/troop ship which you speak of? It is pretty cool as well. There was an old Buckley that I thought was really good for the times as well.  The Buchanan sorry DD 484 (was sleepy this AM) is a striking new release. Extremely fine details comparable to the San Francisco you have. Lotsa talk about deck camber and fine walkway tread patterns, but it is the figures that are my favorite. Unbelievable detail on a 1/350 scale figure. Not many of them but still way cool! Get out the magnifing glass to use atop the optivisor! this is going to be micro-surgery!

Seriously though if like like 1/350 scale ships this is a must!  Save the pennies!

The real thing! Viewed from the Hornet!

Speaking of  sea stuff Roger are you still talking about the PBY model? If so the new release is the same as the Pro-modeler kit but cheaper.

Speaking of PBY Sir Bondo (famed world traveler and explorer) Got any 1/72 scale favorites hiding about for a certain GB?  I believe the British refered to this as  beinging impressed!

True, and a very good point. I do wanna try my hand at it sometime in the near future. But I confess that there is so many other techniques and such I wanna get down first. It seems that the Pro Modeller line is a little hard to find these days...

Bondo sez!

I'm curious though, and not pandering at all, but amongst all this adolescent nonsense about red polyester with bare midrifts...who is Betty?

Hey some of us live for polyester that has that kinda spirit! Your just grumpy cuz you would have to shave your legs to look that good in a skirt! I know I would. Laugh [(-D] Remember Bondo, we aren't losing our hair it is just migrating to other odd parts of our body. Like inside our ears extc. Geeze next you'll be talking bout prohibition needing to come back!

I am crazy about that destroyer you posted it is way cool. Had one many years back. That Buchanon was part of the deal of bases for destroyers. 50 of them to England . The renamed Campletown was a sneaky commando raid which destroyed the dock in Narvik. They rammed the destroyer  into the dry dock gate and eight hours later a concrete encased time bomb exploded destoying it and the site seekers aboard her. Love the history being included in the directions don't you?

Her father served on the DD 541 which is the new Dragon release. I got both the 1942 and the Tokyo Bay version.

Bedtime for me now but just for you I'll cover the bare midrifts California style!

Dee dig out that swim suit!

That's good info, and thanks. Curiously I cannot find women in service in my family, but they were doing other things. There's a classic model of the Buchanan thats been around for 40 years; the Revell "USS Campbeltown" which is not that ship at all, and I highly recommend it to you. It's the original USN version, the Buchanan or Ward, and if it moves you there's an expensive PE upgrade available, but OOB it's a classic and a must build.

Your mother must have a unit history, service record and photos, like a cruise book or two. I hope you have/ can find them. Ditto for your father.

Nah it was/is the same kit as the re-release Roger. No PE stuff at all. Don't even think there is an aftermarket set for it?  It is a nice plane Model goes for about $40 plus or minus. It is big though but very cool. If you can handle that AM SBD then this is right up your alley!

 PE? I musta missed something?

Yep, WACs were Womens Army Corps. I don't know off hand what it stands for But WAVES were indeed Navy. But I'm an Army guy here, so that's my disclaimerWink [;)]

Within the boards here, I have heard alot of this reissue- I ust haven't actually seen it yet. Well, the new boxing anyways. The ProModeler series looks really nice. I do think I'm gonna pass on that though- the PE is waaaaay above my skill levelBlush [:I]

Warmest regards,

Roger

Now Frank Haligan already spilled the beans about you buying the whole first reissue.  Guess I need to go post on the PBY GB. Keep Nam busy ya know.

Well as far as being distracted? Oh yeah. Lets see. Dee is the hell cat married to a pole cat that is helping her build a wildcat! That should clear that up. Now  the fact that she posted a picture of her mother dressed in her WW II Navy Uniform and called her a WAC? I dunno. Pretty sure the Navy women were waves. Uh as far as the PBy? new release not in that box but the reissued PBY-5 that Nam and Frank speak of is the exact same kit with Diff decals. Maybe minus the 4 crew figuresConfused [%-)] Which is a shame. They are very cool crew figures. Gonna try to recreate them in molds and resin so I can share the wealth for those who want them.

For future ref any and all PBY questions go to Nam who is the resident expert and reigning King of the PBY Bow [bow]

The Halloween Pby GB fellows are already refering to him as Nam the merciless. Think it's cuz he likes silver underwear.

Ooops! Sorry, the cheerleaders distracted me...Blush [:I]

The Hellcat is coming long just fine! With the basecoat on, i'm looking forward to seeing the Navy Blue go on. But I actually didn't notice the PBY box underneath. Is that by chance the new release that came out just recently?

Roger

Hi Gang!

I did not get home until 6 pm.........so now I read! You folks been pounding it!

Dee your build is moving along beautifully! Very good work.  We used to use a slip of waxed paper between the iron and the tire.....kept everything clean.

The cheerleaders are a nice break!

As a USNavy vet.....thanks for the Birthday tribute.....and the fun!
