Thanks Roger!  Unfortunately, didn't get any video of the U-2 as she went overhead.  But, I snapped these photos of her as she passed overhead:

I was also able to get some extreme close-ups of the one that was there last year:

Last year too, I was standing front and center when the U-2R taxiied up.  Very cool!  Couldn't believe how loud that thing was!

Here is a video I took this summer at EAA Oshkosh.  I was standing front and center when the U-2 taxiied up, right place at the right time!  I was using my cellphone's video recorder, so the quality is not so good.  I was fianlly able to figure out how to upload the video from my phone to Photobucket, so here is the link.  Again, I apologize for the rather poor quality but at least I was able to record the event.

Thanks for the encouragement guys! I keep thinking, what went wrong? All i can gather is it was a combination of things and just have to put this down as another learning experience. I think I've got the right warpaint. The article published in FSM's Painting and weathering special issue about WWII color cross-references, it shows Humbrol and Tamiya as not having Gloss Sea Blue (FS 15042). I use those two brands as they are what is carried at the LHS. However, going to Airfix/Humbrol's website, they have cross-reference charts. Article in FSM shows Gunze H55 as a match and crossed to Humbrol's site they show H55 matching Humbrol 15. So low and behold I have the right paint already.Sigh [sigh] It will probably be close enough and I have it in my posession already. Getting back to the bench to mend my plane and my pride lol.

Dave, I'm building the Italeri F4U-4B. I also have the Revell F4U-5 and they are exactly the same kits with option parts for both. In this case, which ever one is cheaper would be the better buy. There is a 1/72 Tamiya F4D Skyray at the LHS that has been there quite sometime now. Thinking about getting it just to have one you don't see everyday. Nickname is FORD=F4DLaugh [(-D]

Removing the masking is one of the last things I do. Mostly because I take it off then find I need to do another coat! The larger decals on the uneven surfaces are just a disaster waiting to happen. Lots of warm wet rag pressure and another future overcoat when they dry, covered by two or 3 coats of dull coat sprayed in very thin coats and then followed by a double wash of flat white to fade the deep paint and you have one heck of a run on sentence! Tongue [:P] In the end it does give a much more painted on natural look to them. At least to me.

Dee can surely spray a mean airbrush!!!!!

Looks like she is on the home stretch! Whistling [:-^]

Wow Ritchie! That was a disaster!. Really looks good though and I like that engine!  I wonder if Frank's Zero has inspired this Fighter trend?

No sweat, RItchie! When I was a kid, I used to use those alligator clips you find at Staples or Office Max- and then wonder why the wings were always crushed! Sometimes I'm a bit ofa slow learner. It looks like it should be a pretty simple kitCool [8D]

But I'm really excited to see how it's coming! I suspect I'm just as anxious as you to see the warpaint go on!

Warmest regards,

Roger

Dee, that's looking good.  I wish some of my first builds would've looked that nice.  Tell Aaron you want a turn with the airbrush next time though.  Tell him big boys know how to share. Wink [;)]

Richie, looking good also.  That is a nice dent in the tail feathers but I'm sure you'll make it right.  Which kit are you using again?  I just picked up a 1/72 Tamiya Corsair at a show last weekend and would love to compare notes.

Thanks Rog! I bought some lil spring clamps at the two dollar shop and thought they would be perfect. Cheap and small. Obviously not for 1/72! Will be very apprehensive of ever using them again. Will come in handy for something later on.

Here's a few pics anyway. The first you can barely see the cracks on the vertical and a bit just aft of it. I think a bit of sanding and filler and it should pass muster.

And now for the good news, still a bit rougharound the edges. Just glued it last night so haven't cleaned up anything yet. Enjoy!

Dee, looking good!!!!! You're doing a great job!!!!Thumbs Up [tup] Don't be discouraged by anything Dee, If this is your first one give it several models to sink in and then decide. I wish my first model would have looked that good! As most 10 yr olds do though it's PRODUCTION, GET IT IN THE AIR!!! THERE ARE ENEMIES TO SHOOT DOWN!!!! As with most combat aircraft built at that age, there combat careers were very short.Shock [:O]Blush [:I]Propeller [8-]Laugh [(-D]

That cat is lookin really good! I know in any build, the most tense and apprehensive moment is always pulling off the masking (especially around the canopy) to find out if the paint bled through or not!I'm sure anxious enough for you to see how the masking came out!

I do remember how the old monogram decals were, but I don't remember there being any issues with future or solvaset on them. True, they wrinkle when wet. But they tend to even out as the solution cures. I wonder what the difference is...Confused [%-)]

Banged Head [banghead] Chicky?

Here is what I er I mean she is working on Bondo! The 1/32 Revell Wildcat. Vintage 1969 mold. Gosh awful decals and stuff! Still in production with a nice book included for about $18

As far as the future spraying goes, I know I some haven't tried it but I use an old testors (pre-Aztec) single action airbrush with the acrylic black paint nozzle. it,s going on 16 years old and still going strong for those special jobs. Future is sprayed straight out the bottle and I clean the Airbrush with rubbing alcohol and windex. Works for me.

With the old glossy thick decals and all the raised details it is challenging to get them to even stick let alone lie down. The Future coats helps a little because you don't use setting solutions on these Monogram style decals. ( they shrivel up badly) Also the setting solution will cloud the coat of future. Just gotta play with what works.

Drawing on boxes??? He's fit fer' the chain locker, that one!

Very fine little Grumman there, and look forward to the finished result. Please remind us/me of the original kit? Way to go- it really needs an SBD as a friend.

Glad to hear things worked out! I wonder what clamps you use though. I use those wooden clothespins on everything except the actual fuselage main body itself. They're cheap, expendable, and the tension isn't too stiff. They're perfect especially for assembling the wings. Just my $.02.Blush [:I]

But I'm looking forward to the pictures!Cool [8D]

Have a bit of progress on the Corsair. Got the pit in, engine situated, and fuse buttoned up!!!! YAYYYY!!! Much to my dismay though, whilst gluing the tail area, the clamps I was using were a tad too strong and nearly caved it in. The vertical has cracks and the tail cone aft of the horiz. stab was crushed a bit. Pushed the bits back together close enough to be able to sand it out, so all is not lost. Was one of those Censored [censored] moments. Will post more pics soon.

A gunner had hid his new bride

as his warship did sail with the tide

fired his cannon and heard

a screaming f-word

he'd forgotten that she was inside!

A sailor from somewhere in Devon

from his carrier went straigh to heaven

"Just how did you die?"

he replied "Sadly, I

didn't notice the F-111"
