Dave the CP looks really good.Thumbs Up [tup]  Happy B-Day [bday]to yeti, can't wait to see the kit!!

As for me I have stripped the paint off of the Stuka, and I have one question: I use polyscale paint, or at least that is the only brand that the LHS had for my colors, When I spray it with my new airbrush it is reall speckeld, and I managed to put a good coat on the bottom but I am not sure why it is speckly.  I sprayed it before and it worked fine, I shook and Stirred it and it still did not work.  My compressor does not have a gauge on it and I just test the psi on my hand to see how good it works, any ideas about what to do?  Repainting and decals are all that is left on the Stuka, and I am working on a Spit and a P-38 right now.

Chris, I am not really sure, but I suspect you need to thin your paint a fair amount more.  Also, check to see if paint is accumulating in the nozzle, on the outside where it leaves the orifice.  That happens sometimes on my Badgers with some colors.  It will accumulate there and then when it gets carried to the model it will make a splatter.

As for air pressure, since you don't have a gauge, start from the low side and gradually increase the flow until you get just enough for the paint to flow.  The thinner your paint is the less air pressure you need.  Which air brush are you using?

Another thing that can change the air flow you need is if paint has accumulated inside the air brush.  If even the slightest amount of paint has built up there it can restrict the path and increase the air needed, and this is bad also because it will foul up the spray pattern.  I run lacquer thinner through my airbrush frequently to avoid that.  Very occaisionally I will disassemble the nozzle and soak it in lacquer thinner, and wipe down the needle.  As I have learned to spray with lower pressures and thinner paint I have had less need to do that, and I try to avoid it because those parts are very delicate and easy to damage.

I have a Paasche VSR90.  I just tried to spray MM Black Acrylic through it and I think I have the pressure to high.  The last time I used I completely broke it down and cleaned it and I just cleaned it again after the black.  As for adjusting the airflow the only thing there is, is a little pin that is cone shaped.  You just twist it down for more pressure and up for less.  It is really hard to get it just right.  It has a seperate washer shaped ring to stop it from going down, so you have to adjust that too.  I am a little nervous around it because there is no safety catch or anything, so if you try to adjust it while it is on it can shoot the pin from the top..bad experience..  So if I start thinning it more and turn down the pressure, do you think that might do the trick?

Thanks,

Chris

I've never tried to control the air flow on the airbrush itself, I have a regulator and water trap between the air compressor hose and the airbrush hose.  Before that I used a regulator on the air compressor itself but it wasn't precise enough.  Without a regulator in line like I have now, there was a surge in air before the pressure became constant and that caused problems.  The problem with using the airbrush needle valve to control air flow is that it always will have a big pressure head behind it when you first open it.  That would be really hard to control.

Chris:

I looked up what the VSR90 is, and it works just like my Badger 150's and 200's except that it is gravity feed, mine are suction feed.  A gravity feed type requires the least pressure of all airbrushes, and can work with very thin paints and fine lines.  It is a very nice airbrush.  You probably do need to get a regulator for it, though, before you can control the airflow well enough.  I set the airflow with the regulator, depress the button all the way, listen to the air, and then pull back on the lever untill I have the right amount of paint flow.  I'm not coordinated enough to manage both down pressure and back pressure at the same time.  Too much like rubbing my tummy and patting my head at the same time.  Never could do that either.

Here's a link to the kind of regulator that works, this is a Paasche brand but the brand isn't important so long as the in and out fittings are adaptable.

Well after I got my Driving permit I started on the Ju 88.  I got the cockpit and a the fuselage halves glued, the fit of the fuselage was to say the least not to good.  In the process of constructing the fuselage I managed to take a good chunk out of my finger but stuff happens.

Nice job so far on the Ju-88, looks like it has been a busy and eventful day!

Very nicely done on the cockpit, Yeti! Now you need to find a car that has a "cockpit" feel and a lot of gauges on the IP.

Actually I have logged about 30 hours of informal flight training, it has never made sense to sign me up officially yet but I think I will sometime this year.  I do have to say that flying is easier then driving,  Its a little harder to hit things.

Hey all!!

Sorry been out of touch....just moved into a new house and my life is upside down right now...between that and work I haveno time. To make things worse I have no internet at home...No DSL service available all full for my area. I can only connect at work and like I said been crazy...

Things are now getting back to normal I hope I can restart my 177 in the next couple of days.

Jeaton that 388 is awesome!!! Nice green house and nice overall finish!! Great job

I should now be able to keep in touch more often...

wow no Internet, how can you stand it

I got more of my 88 done, I have about half the masking done and I only have two holes in the fuselage to fill.  For paint I was thinking of doing the the same as espins the Mediterranean scheme but I have the same problem, I don't know if my airbrush has a small enough spray.  Oh well I will try it out when I start with the blue.  My fall back scheme will be the desert.

Well I got the painting done.  I went with the desert scheme,  I will try to post picks latter today.  Future and decals will follow tomorrow.  I will be weathering this model heavily.

Looking forward to the pics, Yeti.  I need to sit at the table and make some progress on my Ju-88.  I got the fuselage closed, but that's as far as I got.

Guys, I'll be a little less active for the next few days.

To borrow a phrase from Carsanab: "Look what the Fi-156 has brought me":

I think this will be my last (at least planed) 1:1 scale model. A boy. 7 lbs. 10 oz. almost 20 inches from head to tail. The wingspan has not been measured yet, but let me tell you  the bomb load capacity is HUGE!

I look forward to seeing what YOU'VE been making...

Thanks everyone. After having this "kit" for about 24 hours, I've noticed a few things.

1. It didn't come with instructions. Fortunately I've built 2 similar kits before so I think I'll be able to manage my way through this one.

2. There is a noticable seam in the bomb bay where the landing gear meets the main fuselage. Mysterious engineering.

3. Both the intake and exhaust work flawlessly and often

I think I've already convinced that wife that commemerating his birth with an airplane build is the way to go...

Im speachless Charles....you have been blessed by a beautiful baby boy....

A hundred years from now it will not matter what my bank account was, the sort of house I live in, or the kind of car I drove: however, the world will be different because I was important in the life of a child.

no other words come to mind.......

Your friend

Carlos.
