Jason and CS, those are some awesome looking builds you have planned.  Thumbs Up [tup]  I look forward to seeing them built.

Invertman, the Revell 1/72 scale kit is a great kit too, a new tooling, and it won't take up your entire display space either.  They are supposed to be releasing the He 177 A-6 soon with Hs 293 guided bombs instead of the fritz that are on the A-5 version.

Sorry about that...I must have bought them outWhistling [:-^]. I picked up a few last time. THey were $10 plus shipping. I couldn;t believe my eyes.

In 1/72 scale, I hear the Hasegawa version is top notch. Dragonfly put one on this site a few months back. He did a killer job with it, too.

Invertman: I'll see what I have in the way of reference material, as well and try to send scans tomorrow.

Here is a progress update:

Main sub-assemblies are going together. Here's the fuselage:

and the nice True Details resin wheels. I guess this makes the build non-OOB.

...and finally the engines. This was the worst issue so far. There are major gaps between the engines and wings. The old "Squadron putty thinned with acetone and applied with a Q-tip" trick seems to have worked, but I'll find out once I start painting.

If anyone of you out there have built this before, some pointers would be appreciated.

Mucker, nice job so far on that Heinkel.  Not to be outdone, here are progress pictures of my Ju88.

I used Tenax to join the fuselage pieces.  There were ugly seams visible after some sanding, so I laid down some Squadron white putty and that seems to have dealt with those seams.

I've also put together the landing gear.  They are not complete as yet - I have more painting and a wash to finish, but here they are with added brake lines.

This weekend is my daughter's first birthday, so it is unlikely that I will make much more progress between now and then, let alone beginning the Do 217 .......

Looking good so far guys....

Tonight Im starting my 177...wish me luck!

Mucker..those engines bring back memories of my 111, they were a pain and i filled and sanded quite a bit...some strategically placed oil/smoke stains covered some flaws in mine.

whats that radioactive blue stuff you are drinking???

ok,

the benches are clean.

been making a plan of attack for 2 days on this bird.

starting the fw200 tonight.

this is going to be a challanging build for me.

does anybody know if there are any cross ref. charts that go from the revell paints

to model master enamels?

Invertman:

I have a great paint reference that includes Revell #'s. Give me the RLM #'s you are after and I'll see what the book says.

Carsanab:

That's good old fashioned air-brush cleaner, uh, I mean windex. I buy the gallon size refils at Target on sale for $2 and they last me up to 6 months.

I like the tip about the exhaust stains. I have a suspicion I will need to use that trick of yours. It's not a fall-together kit, but so far it's been pretty straight forward. The Wing-to-Fuselage looks like it will need some sanding and dry-fit.

Post some pics of the 177 as you go.

Aggieman:

Looking good so far on the Ju88. The tail wings look like they fit nicely and the fuselage seam doesn't look to be too much of an issue. Have you decided on a camo scheme? German camo was akways neat, but hard to airbrush!

Oh, and Happy B-Day [bday] to your daughter.  Party [party] Congrats! They grow up so quickly...

looking good on the builds guys.

mucker:

i have the rlm #s on the camo, but they dont give any numbers on the rest of the

paints they just call them out by name.

they just call out the letters then give you a decription of the color.

i think i will just go to the hs. with the instructions and match up the colors

i need if i can.

i just thought that i could get the revell number then cross it to model master

This link MAY help:

http://www.hobbyguys.net/Hunbrol.htm

It lists many brands, including MM and Revell.

Hopefully it helps.

Mucker,

I will likely be doing the standard splinter scheme for the 88.  I don't have a specific aircraft that I'm modeling so I'll probably just do whatever looks good, perhaps yellow wingtips on the underside, perhaps colored spinners.  Not really sure yet.

Thanks for your kind words regarding my daughter.  I'm hoping to get her interested in modeling to some degree once she gets old enough - I'm actually picturing (and shuddering at the thought of) a pink warbird.Whistling [:-^]

Looking good so far guys!  I'll be getting a late start on my Ju-88, but your progress is making me want to get started.  I'm stuck in Arkansas for the next couple of weeks, so I'll have to try and get moving on the 88 when I get back.

Pink, Purple...whatever gets them into modelling is just fine. My oldest prefers "fast" planes to my old WWII birds, and like sci-fi and dinosaurs even more. Actually he (WE) are building a 1/72 Mig-23S painted in NMF underside, tan and olive camo topside, and an old set of Zero decals. an unlikely combo, but it floats his boat. We've gone to the local IMPS show two years in a row now and it is becoming kind of a tradition. We buy a kit of his liking each time and work on it throughout the year.

My 2 year old son likes any airplane that is red, regardless of what it is.

As for the Pink warbird, I predict she'll like British desert schemes...

OK, so it's Sign - Off Topic!! [#offtopic], but kids are the future of our hobby.

Question [?] Well I've managed to sneak in a little progress on the Ju-88 this week after work Big Smile [:D].  Tonight I've run into what I think is a first for me - a severely warped piece.  One of the ailerons has a very noticable warp to it that is going to prevent me from being able to properly affix it to the wing.  I think that I've read the solution to this problem is to heat the warped piece in water, or perhaps with a hair dryer, then bend it to proper shape while the plastic is malleable.

Is this correct or does someone know of another way to manage this problem?

Otherwise this week I've managed to construct the wings and install the landing gear.  Did a little detailing inside the gear bays but I think once the wheel and gear doors are in place that won't be visible Sigh [sigh].  No pictures yet.

Warm water is the safest.  Just heat it, then twist it a little past straight and hold it till it cools, then let it spring back to straight.  The heat from a hair dryer is too hard to control for my taste.

Once you get that warp fixed, lets see some pics, Aggieman.

My progress is slowed by that thing called "work". As Homer would say, "Stupid Job!".

Anywho, I'm getting ready to attach the large wings over the weekend, then I should be ready for some paint. I;ve heard the wing fit is "lacking", so I want to make sure I have time to align it as accurate as I can before setting the glue. My tube of putty has already been put "on call" and will be at alert over the weekend.

going to go inside and take a lot of pics.

i think they have a model kit of it at the store there.

Invertman...I'm running behind  on re-scanning the condor info for you...I'll get it in gear over the weekend. The Hs123 would be a welcomed addition to the GB. I'm anxious to see how many out of the total bomber variants we get for the GB. Too bad the Ju-52 wasn't a bomber...I'd like to do one of those.

My progress has been "stalled" by the Carpet Monster and I DON"T EVEN HAVE CARPET in the basement!!Censored [censored]. I can't find one piece of the underside gondola, and I'm positive it was in the kit when I masked the various pieces.

Well, I did mask the canopies upstairs...and since I don't "model" there often, the monster was probably waiting for me. I'll look around, and blame the wife and kids, but I know deep down inside it was that dreaded Carpet Monster.

I'm putting an e-mail in to Revell, as well.

Good luck mucker, we've all been pounced on by the carpet monster at some point... Sigh [sigh]

Invertman, I hope to get a little time to scan a couple of things for you, hopefully this afternoon.  I have some modeling stuff to take care of real quick, and I have to get the toilet installed in our Master Bathroom this morning... I finally managed to get that bathroom painted.

Mucker, too bad about the carpet monster!  I usually balme it on the cats but we all know who the real culprit is don;t we!Wink [;)]

Invertman, I lived in the Windy city for a short period of time and got to see the U 505 but I never considered taking pics back in those days.  I would love to see some of those pictures if you ever have a chance to post them on line somewhere.
