Awwww man!!!!!.....you too!!?? Aaaaargh!!! I need a different job! LOL!!

Seriously though, very, very nice work there Marc! I love the softer edge that results from using the putty. I have some blue-tac and I'm going the same route with that and the pre-cut masks generously provided by John. Hope mine turns out half as good. Can't wait to see this one with the markings on it! Should look great! Thumbs Up [tup]

I used the masks John posted a while back.  Someone else just did to and said he had some spots that the edges lifted so I tried holding the edge down with poster tac.  Gave the soft edge I like and was easier than putting the tac down first and filling in with a hundred pieces of tape.  I am pretty happy with the way the "c" wing turned out.  I was concerned how the scribing would look since I had never done more than fixing seams that run under a fuselage and such.  This was the 1st complete rescribe.

And all the masking removed.

Marc, this is awsome !

When you get tme, can you describe a bit more how did you do those soft edges and what exactly did you use ?

The bar is high but I am asking for an express lift Smile [:)]

Marc-

That technique with the paper/handitac is AWESOME!!!  I am definately gonna try that one.  Looks a lot easier than millions of tiny pieces of tape.  Yours really looks good, nice job! Thumbs Up [tup]

Man, it's hard to keep up with all the posts!  Great fun, though.  I'm still working on the decal artwork, but the hard part is pretty much done.  Only thing is, my ALPS printer is giving me some grief.  Keeps telling me the Printer isn't supported by the driver, argghhh.   I will get it to work!  I do know there is nothing wrong with the printer.

Jon, Paragon does make a 1/48 conversion set for K5054.  There are even decals from Ventura in Australia.  I don't like the way they did the numbers, though, they aren't shaped at all like the photos I am working from.  Might be OK for 1/48, but won't scale up to 1/32 at all.  The Paragon 1/48 set is #48114.

Jon as far as I know there is no 1/48 K5054 out there at the moment but I wonder how much effort would be involved in backdating the new Airfix Mk.I?

You have to wonder why someone like CA hasn't done one yet as I am sure they would sell like hot cakes, exactly the way their 109 prototypes disappeared off the shelves.

Cheers

Marc, Ahhh... Royal Auzie colours.  That explains the blue.  Yes PR is Photo Reconacance.  If memory serves me correctly some of these were painted strange colours for high altitude flights.  I thought maybe that bright blue was one of those weird colors.

Boy, can I relate to that, Jon!  I've picked up more hours where I work, and time with the wife comes next....leaves me little time for the plastic fantastics.

Marc- great work! That blue looks awesome.

Greg- Very nice work- outstanding!

All- Anyone know of a 1/48 kit of K5054? Or a conversion set?

I hope to have some pics of my Mk. iXs progress this weekend. So far this week I've had zero modeling time.... Sad [:(]

Thanks Dave.  OK, I have to ask, and show my ignoranceDisapprove [V], but what is a "PR"?

I am doing UP-G from this sheet.

The info is not very reliable... mispellings, wrong Sq #s.  It  is presummed that the color call out for a 3rd top color is incorrect.  I have been chatting with a guy named Peter Malone over onthe Aussie modeler forum and he has given me a wealth of info

Here is a shot before the serial #s were changed

And this is time frame I am decpicting... still with the old SN, the Taz devil emblem only partially finsihed and with the white LE on the wings..

This is turning out to be the best researched project to date for me.

Looks good Darren.  You better black out those windows  There are ruors of a commando mission to find the workshop.

Got the white LE on the wing and the tail painted and the bottom done with some preshading and followed by fading with a lightened blue. That is some blue too... and I thought the Russian underside blue was blueShock [:O]

Marc-

Those commando's look anything like you Frank and Mike? Big Smile [:D]

Very nice work on the underside mate.Thumbs Up [tup] The shading looks perfect.

Watch out, Darren.  If you give us just a bit better view out that window above your bench we'll figure out where that secret workshop in England is!

I'm still screwing myself into my navel on K5054.  There are photos in my camera, but I've spent most of today working up the the artwork for the decals.  And I have to change the rudder pedals again, I found a photo showing that K5054 and early Mk I's had no second step, just the bottom "step" and that leather strap.  The compass has to move to the left too.  No radios, and a different gear selector, also add the handle to pump the gear up and down.  1/32 is fun, 1/32 is fun...

John,

I am facinated! Please get some pics on here when you get the chance, I am looking forward to seeing K5054 very much.Thumbs Up [tup]

Frank,

it was a very difficult decision - it was my first aircraft and for me looked OK (for some time) until I saw models on some galieries, on this Forum and than I decided that I have to do something. In the meantime I bought an AB and painted my P51 - even without any waethering I knew that AB will let me do a much better job. Later I applied some tricks from you guys and the result is shown above. I am pretty glad I decided to strip the paint , even though I lost some parts and it cost me a lot of additional work to get even start with it.

Now its almost ready and it will be my first made within this group. I hope many will follow. I just opened my next box - Tamiya 1/48 Mk Vb in 303 Sqdrn markngs - flown with Jan Zumbach - I just finished his book - a very exciting story of his life. I know many Zumbach's planes are there but after this book I have to do it Smile [:)]
