Thanks guys.  I was thinking last night, as I was taping and painting, about those threads that ask what's your most loved or hated part of the build.  I don't think there is any party that I absolutely hate.  But I do like the part that leads up to taking the masks off and seeing the painted model.  Unfortunately that is why I tend to rush this stage.

Great work so far guys! Thumbs Up [tup]

Darren, that is quite a set-up you have there my friend! I think the term Frank came up with of the 'Spitfire Shop' is very appropriate! Big Smile [:D]

Marc, the preshading looks great! ...and kudos to you for painting those leading edges - that's some pretty fine masking in that area so I always use the decals when I do mine.

Looks good Darren.  You better black out those windows  There are ruors of a commando mission to find the workshop.

Got the white LE on the wing and the tail painted and the bottom done with some preshading and followed by fading with a lightened blue. That is some blue too... and I thought the Russian underside blue was blueShock [:O]

I'm still screwing myself into my navel on K5054.  There are photos in my camera, but I've spent most of today working up the the artwork for the decals.  And I have to change the rudder pedals again, I found a photo showing that K5054 and early Mk I's had no second step, just the bottom "step" and that leather strap.  The compass has to move to the left too.  No radios, and a different gear selector, also add the handle to pump the gear up and down.  1/32 is fun, 1/32 is fun...

Darren, your Spitfire is looking great my friend.  Try this next time you need to reattach controls surfaces.  Instead of glue attach them with fine wire.

Looks good so far tango.

I had a spit and a 109 hanging in my computer room facing in oppsite directions. One day I came home and the spit is turned around and the 109 is lying on the floor in pieces. I guess the spit didn't like the company and shot him downSmile [:)]

So here's where I'm up to with my Mk.IX......

I've dropped the elevators and started painting! Got the underside and the top camo grey done today, have also started work on the radiators and landing gear. I've leave it all to cure for a bit then add the Sky fuselage band. After that, its onto the green camo! Anyhoo, here's how she's looking now:

Also, as things were going well, I decided to open up my 1/48 Heritage Aviation Mk. PRXIX....its one of those resin jobbies with metal fiddly bits. Well, before I knew it I had this thing washed, cut and wet sanded!! I think this will make a nice little sideline for this GB.

I am also still working on my Seafire Mk.47 as well! Progress for that one can be found at FAA GB HQ.Wink [;)]

Looks like a proper production line I have going here! Here's a peek from the workshop:

Greg,

Most Mk.VIII's were fitted with round-edge wings and saw service in tropical theaters, many of them saw service with the RAAF against the Japenese. Some also saw action over France and Italy too, where even some clipped wing versions were in use.

As opposed to the pointed wing (MkVII/VIII) for use at high altitude, the clipped winged machines were found to be more effective in low altitude combat. So, you have a wide choice of machines to build with this project........I'll be interested to see what you choose.Wink [;)]

Thanks Frank !

I did some quick research and it is true that Mk VIII had both: pointy and "normal" wingtips.

I also looked into reviews of ARII Mk. VIII but I could not find any. So I could not resist and took off the fuselage and wings to check how they will fit.

I was very surprised: it looks like they were made for each other :) perfect fit (with some small flash to be removed, nothing special - just cheap mold but I think it is worrth the money. Same price as an old Monogram Mk II (some says Mk 11) what is a dissaster compared to ARII. Nice panel lines. I did not check the body accuracy because I do not have detailed drawings of this bird (in fact any of them :( ) So if someone has 1/48 drawings of Spit .... I appreciate it Smile [:)]

Cockpit does not have much details, not much any of the cockpit at all. Just a seat (what really does not look too impressive, few raised elements on tboth sides of the fuselage. It is a perfect kit for using Eduard office I think. For about $30 total it can be a very nice project.

I any of you is interested I will take pictures of the kit and provide more info, however I think it is a real bargain.

Greg-

I'm no Spitfire expert, but I believe that the Mk.VII had the pointy wings for high altitude, while the Mk.VIII was essentially the Mk.VII w/o the equipment for high altitude including the wingtips.  If I am incorrect, hopefully someone can set the record straight.

Big Smile [:D] maybe he (Ted Turner) used Hambrol reference chart

it was a good one Smile [:)]

OK, put fun aside , and get back to business :)

I went to the LHS tonight and picked a Spit Mk VIII made by ARII (1/48). When I opened a box I see some strange looking wingtips, almost like Mk V - no "pointy" tips at all.

Does anyone have a 1/48 plan of the top view for Mk VIII ?

I have to do some research on this kit. It was cheap but worth the money ??

I have to confess - I also ordered a Tamiya Mk Vb but I did not tell my wife Shock [:O]
