Lookin good Chris!  I remember that Academy kit as being a pretty good one, not too much to fix or fill along the way.  I hope that you get a good set of decals with it though.

I put the lid to my thinner bottle next to it for scale.

Comments are always welcome.Wink [;)]

I am always up for some work pics. I do not believe anyone here would have a problem with it. If no one else protest then post away! Besides I have one of those in my stash and was originally giong to use it for this group build till I went a little nutty and decided to do the Trumpeter 1/32 P-38 L! I would like to see how it builds.

Wow vacation. I do not think I remember what it feels like. I believe my last vacation was April 2005. If you do'nt count the week I spent unconcious in the hospital last summer. Which does'nt count because I do'nt remember any of it! I seriously am taking a vacation  next month now that I think about it. I have alot of being lazy to catch up on. Hope you are enjoying your time off David.

Hi all, I agree with what soulcrusher said, however I am going to start mine tomorrow.  I am having AB problems so the Spitfire and Stuka I am working on will have to wait.  But I do plan to start as soon as I get up in the morning.

BTW, Soulcrusher please post some picsBig Smile [:D]

I guess by the lack of recent post to this thread I am the only one actually building? I have both engine assembled even though you will not be able to see most off them when you close up the two boom halves. I also completed the two wheel bay assemblies. I just half to build the two rudders and I can glue the two boom halfs together. I am surprised at how quickly this kit goes together. So far there have been no fit issues with anything. I have nothing but good things to say about this kit so far. Trumpeter has done a good job with clear instructions and easy assembly. Execpt for their bad color references of course.

David. Put me down for a repeat of Marge. The Revell 1:48 kit # 85-5479. It will be mid-August before I can get started, though. I can sorta assure you that this battle-station is fully operational.

Swanky. That's just what I needed! Thanks Soulcrusher. Construction can now commence.

On a darker note, that's pretty morbid that the life expectancy of a P-38 got so short it wasn't worth spending the 1940's dollars on PRIMER for the aircraft. Yikes.

Espins - looks nice! Now I have a reference much better than the kit instructions as to what this thing is supposed to look like.  Wink [;)]

Hey dupes

The correct Model Masters acryl number is #4852 Green Zinc Chromate. All unpainted areas of most P-38's are this color. This is not actually a paint but a primer used at the factory to prevent corrosion of metal. It is usally found in the cockpit wheel wells inside of inspection panels. Later on in the war as they realized most of these aircraft would not survive long enough to corrode they stopped primering as many areas of the plane and left them b are metal.

Nice build Espins1! Those gaps must be common on Revel/monogram kits as I had the same thing on the P-61. I used Squadron's white putty to fill mine. Is there a big difference between the two or is it just a preference thing?

As for my P-38, I will start in two weeks (have to finish some other projects first, I feel like I'll need the space on the workbench). Soulcrusher, I'm looking forward to the pics on your engines.Cowboy [C):-)]

Hey guys.  I just finished building the 1/48 Revell P-38J so I though I'd share it with you.

This kit is from the 1964 moldings (look at the underside of the tailplane, you'll see it stamped there) Shock [:O]  There are some major fit issues with the kit, but if you're patient and have seam filling skills you'll be good to go.  There is no way on God's green earth though that you can get all the canopy parts to fit properly, they're just not shaped correctly for that to happen.  Laugh [(-D] It was worth it to take a lot of time on the seams (you're going to have some major seams to fill and sand).  I got lazy towards the end and just didn't feel like dealing with the gaps around the gun cowling and nose.

Here are two shots to give you an idea regarding the wing/boom seams you'll be faced with.  I used Squadron green putty for the big gaps.  For the smaller stuff I used a little bit of Mr. Surfacer.  And lots and lots of very careful sanding as you're dealing with gaps in areas that have complex curves.

I chose to build mine as the one flown by Major Richard Bong.  I built this kit as part of the Secret Santa GB hosted by jwb (Jon) which was a lot of fun!  Big Smile [:D]

Hey there aircraft guys, just unpacked my Revell P-38...holy flash, batman! And the size of those sprue attachment points! Yowza! Looks like I have my work cut out for me...heh. Time to break out the putty.

My question to you - is there a "standard" shade for Interior Green? I have easy access to only Tamiya and Model Master paints so a number from those ranges would be most desirable.

Thanks fellas!

Ok has anybody started there kit yet. I decided to get a good jump start on this huge kit last night. It took me about and hour and a half just to remove and clean up all of the pieces needed to start assembling the two engines provided it the kit. The detail is amazing. Managed to get about 75% of both of the engines assembled. Going to try to finish them up tonight.

What I have done is this;

1 - Go to Ask.com and type in GIF animator software.

2 - There are several free or 'demo' softwares out there for download.  I tried out two or three before I found the one that I like.

3 - Save all of the Badges that you want to make into a slideshow in one folder on your computer.

4 - Play around with the software and the badges.  When you get a GIF file that you like, save that file not only to your hard drive, but also post it up on Photobucket (or like service).  Copy the [IMG] program line for your slideshow.

5 - In the "Update Profile" section of this fine website, under signature box, paste the [IMG] line from Photobucket.  Then save changes.  Depending upon FineScale's server, you should be able to see your GB slideshow in just a few moments.
