Hi gents! I know I've been gone awhile but it had to do with a lot of Scouting commitments and...well, I'll keep that one close to the vest for now.

I'm getting back to the Braniff 707 this weekend, if not tomorrow night. I expect to make steady progress after that.

CD;

Glad to see you back posting. I definitely understand other commitments. I've put some of my other model projects on hold mostly cause of work and kids and a new very demanding puppy dog.

Frank, thank your son in law for me. I know where my freedom comes from.

Hi all,

 Neil, your '3 holer' is coming along nicely!    I understand about the landing lights; it screwed around with the technique a while before finally nailing it.     The lights on my Continental 738 and Playboy DC-9 were both sealed and decaled because I messed the hole up. Smile [:)]

 Thanks CD; he's a good boy Man Marine, and came through it all without any problems, just discusted with how the media and politician scum-bags are distorting the conditions and degrading their mission!     He said the war could be over in 3 months if the journalist and special interest watchDOGS would get out of the Country and let them do the job they were trained to do.       He will be at Pendleton until June or July '09, then goes to Afghanistan.

 Take care,

 Frank

Here's my finished Pan Am B727-200.  I'm pleased with the build. I did some weathering with pastels, oils and I used a graphite pencil to outline the control surfaces. They were a bit subdued until I applied a coat of future. Then they poped out nicely.  I made the landing lights with a Waldron punch and die set and some bare metal foil.  The base is one I found at a thrift store for a dollar and I found a nice sheet in the scrapbooking section of my local arts and crafts store for 79 cents which I cut to fit over the middle section. I think it adds a nice touch. I hope you enjoy.

Next I'm going to work on my Minicraft Delta DC-8-71.

Looks like a real nice finish on the nm and the white, Bable.  What airport is honest enough to paint it's ramp like that?

WOW Neil... Thumbs Up [tup]Bow [bow]Bow [bow]Thumbs Up [tup]

    The NM job really came out nice!  I bet you'll use that again! Thumbs Up [tup]

     Nothing like the 727, and you sure made a beautiful example of it! Smile [:)]

John;

Thanks for the kudos. Yes I suppose back in the 60's and 70's with the somewhat flamboyant styles that may have worked. Remember Calder's (?) artfully painted DC-8's? And National Airlines' "Fly Me" campaign?

Frank;

Many thanks for the kind words. I'm quite happy with the NM effects. I have another B727 that I'd like to try in American Airlines. I'd like to to them in their old style markings. That would be a challenge.

I hope all is going well with other's builds.

Neil,

    Yeah, but that 'effect' ALL over would be sweet, wouldn't it?     Make a Toast [#toast]

      Looking forward to seeing it!   Wink [;)]

Hey guys,

So my Dash 8 is a twisted pile of plastic in the garbage.

I haven't evejoyed this build at all. Last week my son broke off the horizontal stabalizer. I was ready for paint but I glued it back on and refilled and sanded the crack that was left. Well today I was painting and I had just finished and the thing dropped to the floor, breaking off the stabalizer... again. When I held the broken piece up it was going to be very hard to fix as the crack was large this time. The plastic kind of twisted. This thing had already taken for ever and now I'm set back again. I snapped for a split second but long enough to rip that model to shreds. It felt awesome in the moment. Now I'm sad. Ah well.

So I'm out.

Hi Guys

 Still here. have been refurbishing ( painting and carpeting ) my study. So now I have a nice comfortable place to work ! ( on kits of course )

 I've been a bit slow of late as my two year old ( he of the damaged VC 10  - Max I feel your pain) discovered my old hornby trains , so we've set those up and spent hours gazing at them running around, at the expense of aero modelling.

 Anyway - I've become a little discouraged with the Trident - had some problems with the midnight blue on the tail.

 They're all sitting there though, taunting me , so I expect some more progress soon.

 Frank - Your son-in law's duty is surely appreciated. We aussies have a contingency over there too, I think all the air traffic control at baghdad is courtesy of the RAAF.

Cheers

Thanks Simon, Smile [:)]

Max: From all the inacuracies that particular kit suffers from, you probably done the most merciful thing! Wink [;)]

    I fooled around and finished another build this afternoon, so I thought I should go ahead and post it here.    Had a lot of fun and learned some new things about mounting technique, so enjoy the pictures. [:)

Take care,
Frank

Frank;

That's simply an amazing effect you've created.  It looks like it's actually flying. I love the over land set up too.  You can't really tell that there is only half a model there.

One thing, it sort of looks a bit low for a highflying passover.  It could be that the picture isn't quite conveying the distance.  Not a  critisizm an observation.

My hats off to you.

I hadn't seen any posts here in a while and wondered if the GB sort of fizzled out.  I'm working on an A model Aero 145 twin engine kit. 1/72 scale. I'll post some pics soon

I've built that Dash 8 and it is a dog of a kit. Lot's of filler and lot's of sanding and reshaping. The horizontal stabs are really bad. Mine broke in two. Here's a photo of one I built a while ago. It's not an airliner but it is a cool looking plane once completed.

Cheers folks.

Frank - again , simply awesome.

Be careful, you're going to make some of us put away our modelling tools forever.

Thanks Simon... Smile [:)]

    I hope nobody puts their tools up because of me showing a different way to displaying something.   Using those mirrors, ANYONE can make their model come to life like that; and it's a lot easier than building an entire one also.      Wink [;)]

   Hey Neil,

   You done an excellent job with the Dash-8; and the new nose section looks a LOT better than what came molded with it. Smile [:)]

Frank, that is just so totally AWESOME! I hope you make a mint for coming up with it.

Sorry I've been gone so long, gentlemen. Lots of scout stuff, a magazine issue, some out of town visitors and...some OB appointments. Our fourth child is on the way, due near the end of February.

I'll be working on my Braniff bird during the Packer game tomorrow.

Hello fellow liner mates;

I've been out for a while too. Still looking for a job and kids and life issues but I'm still here. I haven't really worked on anything new lately. I did recently come back from a contest in Kansas City. I took a Silver medal for my B727 and a Bronze for my Air India B777. I'm quite happy.

Frank you project looks fabulous. The St Marteen landing is down right realistic. I've always wanted to go there and have a go at plane spotting.

Simon I'll be looking forward to some more of your great work.

CD. Life issues definitely are priority. Congrats on the 4th child. Do you know the gender? I'll be anxious to see the Braniff jet completed.  I'm an Eagles fan. were now like 2-3? Boohoo [BH] Bummer.

What I have in the works contamplating are two kits. One is the Minicraft Dc-8 71 and an A Model Aero 145 civilian utility/passenger prop job.  I'm also considering doing a Revell 1/144 B747 too. Gotta check the funds and I have birthday coming up soon....mmmmmmParty [party]

regards Neil

Neil--

Congrats on the medals!

Yeah, my Packers went down today...the good news is I got the wings on the 707 and they're almost seamless. I also cleaned up some parts and will attach the "canoe" ventral stabilizer shortly.

As for the little one, we expect to know later this month.

Gentlemen--

I'm happy to report that....

IT'S A GIRL!!!

As for my 707, I'll be getting the stabs and canoe on tonight; I have to be careful with the cockpit glass (needs shims) but I'll probably have that on too.

Congrats on getting the awards for the 727 and 777, Neil!      Those are beautiful Airliners and you deserved it! Smile [:)]

Congrats on the "Little Girl" also CD!!    Do you all have a daughter already or is this your first one?      All three of mine were Girls, but from them we now have five grandSONS & two grandDaughters to play with and spoil, except this time around, mommy & daddy gets them afterwords! Wink [;)]

Take care and we'll talk to you later,

Thanks, Frank!

This one will make it two of each, Frank. Specifically, boy, girl, boy, girl. Our other three are 13, 12 and 9 and they're very excited...and all old enough to change diapers! BWAHAHAHA!

Neil--

Thanks...I'll do so tomorrow when I can get the pics back from my wife.

As for airplane progress...put a small (especially for me!) amount of bondo on the 707 this evening, and closed the fuselage of my Heavy Lifters build, the Blue Angels Lockheed Constellation. Tomorrow the 707 gets sanding and glass, and then it's off to the paint shop, assuming those two steps go well.

Goodmorning fellas!

    CD: Many, many congratulations and Godspeed to the Mrs.!      You and your wife know first-hand how it is having two small ones to watch after at the same time, and no doubt why the; "they're old enough to help change diapers" part was slipped in there!     Am I right, or am I right?  Shock [:O]    LOL         My middle daughters two are 14 months apart, one & two; She says that she don't even remember the last time she got to sleep until she woke up on her own!  LOL!

    The B-707 should be ready for some pictures here before too long, shouldn't it?Smile [:)]     That's a beautiful bird no matter what livery it carries, and looking forward to getting to see yours.

     Take care,

     Frank

Hi guys.. Remember me?Big Smile [:D]

Just thought I would stop in and say hi..

I now spend all of my time over at ARC. Not because I don't like you guys. Rather because I like the fact they have an airline forum all to our own..

Anyways, hope all are well, and that you had a happy Thanksgiving...

I know what you're talking about! Still, your daughter and I had it lucky, my younger brothers are twins and took almost a year to sleep through the night.

General update: the reason the 707 wasn't finished was that one of my kids accidentally knocked it onto the floor, springing the wings loose and knocking one stab off completely. The fuselage seam also was sprung, so I had to reglue and resmooth. At this point the engines are built and will go on tonight, and I am actually still planning to get this bird done before the end of the year.

The Blue Angels Heavy Lifter got smashed in the same incident, so I dropped out of that build. The good news is, I got a new one from Squadron for a few bucks.

The pics will be posted after the first of the year, but the build will be finished on time. I mean it! How stupid would it look for the founder of the build to get not even one airliner built all year!

I'll come back tonight and post those long-promised pics of my new little girl...one of them is only three weeks old and a complete hoot!

Yes, I'm aware of your infidelity! Wink [;)] I'm over there too, if you haven't figured it out already, you can look for the guy on the airliner forum who has the same avatar I use here.

And yes, I did have a great Thanksgiving; thank you for asking.
