Chris: I'm trying to post every day, not only to keep the thread bumped, but because it will keep me on track with the builds. I know I'm going to look stupid saying "Haven't gotten to the CV-118 yet, but maybe tomorrow..." 17 times.

That said, thank you for taking care of the thread. We want this one to stay front and center.

Philo: Nice decal work. That is one gorgeous bird.

Thanks! The decals are really high quality and went on without problems. After I finish the other side I have to add the "blue-bubble decals"which could be a bit tricky!

Sorry. I wasn't trying to stir anyone up, and I wasn't trying to take over the build.. But I go through withdrawls if I don't see updates in threads.. I love seeing what everyone else is doing as well as showing my own stuff..

Yeah, that is/was for a 1/200 kit that I was going to do.. Don't know what happened, but it never got done.. I had built a few in 1/200, but gave them all away to friends.. I prefer the larger 1/144 now, as I can display things together in scale like the Space Shuttle and various other machines.. I have a mad sickness of wanting everything to scale in any subject I do, so people can see the difference in sizes when comparing different things..

You have no need to apologize, Chris. I really do appreciate what you did, and I'd have to be pretty pathetic to be miffed at someone for bumping my favorite thread!

Forgot to mention, last night I closed up both fuselages (CV-118 and Braaniff) and did final cleanup on the wings of both planes.

Greetings all!

It is great to see the activity going on in this GB, and by the looks of all the progress shots coming in, there's going to be some fantastic builds coming out of this! Smile [:)]

Been a long time coming, but the "Piedmont Pacemaker" display is finally complete and on my shelf! Took a stab wound to the leg and got a new grandchild in the process, so this build will always harbor memories, for me.

The "blurring" of the runway numbers makes a unique and intersting display method for any kit, and adds an air of "movement" to the whole thing.   Below is the technique I made up to accomplish this affect:

Thanks for all the kind words and support during this build. It has honed some techniques I've always been curious about trying, and will certainly contribute to the builds I have planned for this GB.

Take care,
Frank

Ohmigosh that is great! Never seen that before! Sorry about the leg, not sure how it was connected- the kid came out wielding a cutlass?

Great display, fine a/c too.

Thanks Bondman.... Smile [:)]

The stab wound happened during the foiling process.... I was holding a small piece of foil in my tweezers getting ready to apply it to the model, and it fell.      Fearing the "Black Hole" would consume it, I instantly closed my legs in hopes of catching it..... unfortunately, I must have knocked against the table or something because my BIG scalpel rolled off the table and landed crossways between my thighs, JUST as they closed!

Yeah, the word "Ouch" is an under statement!!    There for about 20 seconds after it happened, I didn't know if I was going to faint, throw-up, or wet myself!! Shock [:O]

Thanks again and take good care,

Frank

We need a new emoticon- "kringe!".

I travelled back to Winston-Salem many times during the design and construction of the Wachovia bank HQ, which we were among the designers of. I really liked that area. So which runway is 26?

Heck of a way to ruin a pair of pants!

Frank, I kid you not...I was sitting here, I looked at your post and I said out loud "that is SO AWESOME!"

Outstanding work, and the tutorial is great. I'll definitely use that display method soon.

Way to go, Frank (nooo, not the leg, that made me cringe!) Thanks for the detailed description of the runway work.  The 737 looks really nice.  I do think it is a bit over-rotated in the flare, not much left to stop the sink.  Very effective.

Frank;

Completely awesome build. It looks very real. I had to look carefully for the wire that was holding the plane in the landing phase.  I really like the flaps down look. Some day I'll try that technique.

Take a look at airlinercafe.com in the galleries. There's a B727 in TWA that's really fantastic too along with some other great models.

philo426. Those decals look very attractive up against the white fueselage. Great job!

Here's some in progress pictures of the Norwegian B737-300 I'm doing. The kit is the Minicraft and the decals are by Lima November I ordered from Airliner Hobbies. I've not use them but they look nice. Perhaps a bit thick but I'll have to see once they are on. The paints are all Tamiya rattle can paints; Pure White, and Bright Red. Next I'll be working on the engines.  The pictures are a bit blurry. I'm still learning to use my new camera.  The decals are an advertisement for their TV version of The Apprentice called Kandidaten with means Candidate.

Wow, Neil, that demarkation line between the red and white is pperfect! Great work. Those Norwegian jets are awfully pretty, and the logo design for the ad is pretty slick. Looking forward to seeing the finished product.

No model work today...probably none until Saturday. I'm helping my son with his Pinewood derby car. Gloss black with a faded three-color flame job...yowza!

Excellent work.. Other than the fact that it is the wrong aircraft (thats not a dig, so please don't take it as such). It still came out great.. I do notice however that the tail marking has been applied at the wrong angle.. I am sorry if you think I am picking on you, but it was the first thing my eyes went to when I looked at the pic, and looks a little funky as you can see where you painted the dark blue on the angle in that corner.... I am all for pats on the back and "good job" comments, but I also feel we need to point little things out aswell..

Cheers, Chris

Philo: Still gorgeous!

Dennis: Welcome aboard. If you can, just give me details on one or two of the builds you're doing so that I can add it to the front page. BTW, are you related to Chantal Cermak, the skater? (I know if you are you'd be related by marriage)

I finally got some pictures of my Lindbergh Line 777. I only have time on the weekends to work on it. Right now I have it in primer. I still have to fill and sand, which will be this weekend. I have one of the main gear nearly done, or at least close to ready for paint. The lines are a random assortment of wire I found laying around.
