Bill, the things we do and say just to keep the Missus happy. I often detour to the LHS whilst out, and my wife doesn't know. A lesser man would say 'get a backbone and be your own boss', but that lesser man would not be married and would not understand the saying 'Let sleeping dogs lie. What she doesn't know, won't hurt ME'.

Hope you get the Kitty alright, and that the store staff don't knock it around too much.

Nick,
in the words of the old Paranoia RPG,
"that information is not available at your security clearance, Mrs. WIPW"
:-)

withholding data is not necessarily dishonest.
and sometimes it helps prolong the lifespan of the husband.

Bill, Oh the life... Great story, very entertaining... though not from your perspective I suppose.... Anyway I hope you recover your lost cat... Then get us some pictures...

Tigerman, AWSOME!!!! great job.... I love the discoloration and blended appearance of the paint. It all ties together well...

Derek, I have long awaited this... Spectacular work on this kit... The turret looks factory and the painting is first rate... Congrats all around....

Great Job and thanks to the both of you....

I agree with Ed, I thought you dropped it and it broke into a 1000 pieces or you lost it. Certainally no bordom in your abode.

Bill,
you sure do lead an interesting life!
:-)
i was afraid that you were going to say that after you showed it off, it dropped from a height and was battle damaged.
so this is not 'so bad'.

MAJOR MESSUP!!!

You guys aren't going to believe this! Yesterday, (Saturday) I put the left side tracks on. It took me about 4 days of fiddiling to get the left side done. I got the right side on in about 5 minutes! I had two or three partial breaks that I was able to easily fix. It was GREAT! Finally the tracks were on. So what was the messup? Read on...

I decided to drive down to the hobby shop in Salt Lake about 40 miles away and show off the tracks (as well as pick up a 1/72 Trumpeter kit.) But I didn't want my wife to know and she was at a play, anyway. Well I carefully packed the Panther in a box and off I went. I got down there and everyone ooohed and awed over the tracks. (Very gratifying, especially after all the trouble I had!) Well, I wound up spending way too much time there, including about 10 or 15 minutes talking to a "returning modeler" about what was new in kits and what I did and didn't like about the various 1/72 kits. All of a sudden, my cell goes off and it's my wife calling. Well, it's grab my stuff and head out the door (before answering the phone!) I head out on the freeway, call her back and tell her I'm on the way to the commissary for groceries, carefully leaving out the part that I'm 40 miles from the Base! I figured I was soooo very smart! (Never try to be dishonest!) I head up and get our groceries, head home and get everything unloaded. Everything is fine,...until I realize I left the box with the Panther in the car. How could I be so stupid??! Out to the car I go, after all, the tracks were done and I was determined to post the pics to all you fine friends! I open the door...and...NO BOX! I was sure I hadn't taken it in, my hands were full of groceries and stuff I bought at the model store. So, at 5:58, I call the store and yep!, it''s there. And, to add insult to injury, they are moving next week to the store front where Great Models used to be and will be closed for TWO weeks! My only chance to get it before they open back up is to go down tomorrow! (Now how do I explain THAT to my boss!)

So, sorry, guys, no pictures of those "fun-loving" tracks!

(And, I wound up telling my wife I'd been down there, just so I could boob about not having the Panther, and figuring she was going to find out anyway!)

(Oh, I bought one of the Can Do 1/44 Tiger I builtups, and the Trumpeter Ferdinand. I'll post another thread about it, but a first look has it being a really impressive model.)

LOL. Yeah Dwight, remember this is my second one. The first I ruined the Zimmerit. It turned out okay, I guess we are all our own worst critiques. I've almost got the second set of tracks on. Unfortunately the pics don't pick out the detail very well, I'll see if I can fix that on my next ones.

Tigerman: So this is the kitty you have been complaining about? Now I don't see any reason for all the complaining. SHE LOOKS GREAT! The camo is just Superb. Nothing to be ashamed about. Great job overall. Now stop complaining and get her done! LOL.

Derek: Ahh. What a beauty. Just great work!

Hmmmm. Those ambush schemes are very good. Good refs for me.

Thanks guys.

No problem, Eric. I was glad to do it. I had a little trouble with Ron's site. It didn't seem to want to take your first picture, but it finally did, obviously! I'm glad your getting so close on yours. I figure I've got 3 big hurdles to conquer. 1st, the right side tracks, 2nd I need to scratch a travel lock, and 3rd, painting on those leaves. That will only leave me with the various tools, cables, and decals to go! Yeah, I'm getting REAL close!!

NOT!!!

And I just found out, I've got dishes, dinner, laundry, and pack meeting tonight! Well, maybe tomorrow I'll be able to get a little more done!

Have a great evening, all!

Thank you Bill for posting those pics so quickly. I don't know if they were the right size or anything. I'm a tech newbie.

Thanks guys for your gracious comments. After seeing so much great builds, I was rather hestitant to post them. At least everyone will believe I actually do some building. LOL

Thanks for the comments on the leaves. The first time I tried it, I made them to uniform and big. I'll thank Eric(Erock) for his spotter brush tips from his Tiger build. I took a #5 brush and thinned down Tamiya acrylic paint and lightly dabbed. The first time I didn't thin it and it went on thick and dark.

I managed to get one side of my tracks on last night. Whew, I forgot how much fun they were! One more side to go and some little add ons.

Well, I spent about 20 minutes working on the left side of the tracks while I was home for lunch. I think I've almost got this side in shape (and I mean that litterally). I've superglued the links down to the wheels, where needed and have gotten all (I think) of the links that were separating glued back together. I just hope it holds. It still doesn't look right, but maybe I can tweek it a little more.

I will never buy another set of Model Kasten tracks, unless they change the design! As soon as I get the right side done, I'll post a couple more pictures.

Derek,
Great work!
glad to see it at last!
especially like the tracks & 'odd' wheel.

Eric,
4th time was a charm on the paint it seems!
really like it.
tho it still makes me think my leaves are too big.
water under the bridge now.

Bill,
thanks for getting his pix up.
now get back to the bench, Mister!
:-)

Bill: Yep, those are the Fruil early tracks. Will get better pics as soon as the clouds go away or I get better lighting.

Tigerman: Look fantastic! How did you accomplish the leaves? My airbrush dosen't go that fine.

Looks really terrific, Derek. Everything really looks great. Refresh my memory, you used the Friul Panther Early tracks, didn't you? Whatever you used, the sag looks right on! The turret is great, too, and I really like the way you did the "found" road wheel.
