OK guys, after a long day of fighting with the computer, and going down to the pricinct to file some reports for work, I finally got a badge done.  So....what do you guys think?

Nice! However, it makes me question my choice of build...I didn't realize that this would be open to any armor stuff. Big Smile [:D] Have an old 1/35 Italeri BM-13 Katiusha (rocket launcher truck) from about 1970 taking up some space in the stashola...what do you think? I figured since this was in the A/C forum we had to do A/C.

It's that or the F4F-Wildcat...either one would make me happy. Wink [;)]

There is a new Special Interest Group in IPMS-USA, by the way.

http://gregers.7.forumer.com/viewtopic.php?p=68040#68040

Anyone can join, apparently, not just IPMS-USA members, and it's free (for the time being, at least).

Thanks guys.  Its actually mostly the cover of a book i found on the internet called Classic Kits.  So it worked out great.

Dupes- Yeah, this one is technically to ANY classic kit.  Mostly AC just because of the play value.  I have thought about some of the old Revell rockets though.  And I have even built one of the old Revell LaCrosse missles with mobile launcher [talk about a classic kit].  So yeah, if ya wanna go with an armor, your more than welcome to.

Alright. I'll have to root through these 3 boxes and see which one "strikes my fancy". Big Smile [:D] Found an older FSM article about the Monogram BF-109G6, didn't find an exact date, but the quote was "tooled in the late 70's".

I'll let you know. Wink [;)]

Tooled in the 70's works for me.  One of the ones I plan on doing was made in 2005, but its a re-release and has the original stamp from 1967.  So it works. And the Lindberg F8U that I just found in my stash, its 1970's, and it still ahs the original "build it yourself" motorr to give it that "authentic jet engine sound"!!!!   I already built the engine.  It still works!!!!

WOW! I finally get a GB Badge. Hey Viper, thatnks for this GB. Was waiting for one that didn't allow AM parts....ummm does that include decal leftovers from a different model? (reason I ask is I'm questioning the goodness of the ones in the box.) Not anything from Aero or PYN-up, just the "Look, I've extra parts left over." stash I have.

(just posted this & saw badge not there....is this something we get at the end?)

Hartman, decals are ok, as long as they are intended to replace the kit decals.  Like stars and bars and what have you.  I understand that some, if not all of us will have decals that are beyond salvage.  The no AM parts is more so for resin and PE, or decals for a completely different model than the box.  After thinking about it, I would say even vacuform canopies could be allowed, as some older kits may have missing or damaged clear parts.  I've run into this with one of my T-28 trojans.  It was missing the clear sprue all together.

As for the badge, you just have to go to your profile and add this to your signature:

http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f86/ViperMP/ClassickitsGB.jpg

Make sure to add the IMG tags to it. Then you shall have a badge!!!!!

I'm debating whether or not I'm going to drill out those 200 or 300 holes in the dive brakes on the Dauntless Banged Head [banghead]

No worries, Raptor.  I think three days is ok.  I mean, afterall, its the fun kits.  Its hard to wait.  I started the motor for the F8U.  So i cant really say much against you.  Right now I'm taking the time to finish up my M2A3 OIF Bradley for internetModeler, my XP-77, and my USN P-59.  As well as an Anime Angel i was supposed to give my Finace for X-mas.  I'm a little late on that one.

Reminds me of a story from one of my railroad books, with credit to John Signor:

Two travelers arrive at the border of Mexico in the 1930's and prepare to embark on the 2.45 train. Somewhat to their surprise there is indeed a train at the platform. So they ask the Conductor, "is this the 2.45?".

"Yes Sir, it is!".

"When will it leave?".

"2.45!".

"So it's on time?".

"Oh no sir, this is yesterdays train!".

Some things will never change.

Well I guess it can't hurt too bad to start just a little early on drilling out those 265 holes Big Smile [:D]  I was looking at the parts and threw away what I didn't want (bomb carts, figures, bases for the figs, etc) and it really doesn't consist of much besides a very basic cockpit, fuselage halves, wings, and gear/struts, so I may build another kit if i can find anything vintage on ebay. Would a Monogram Avenger count?

Ben, I can tell you the Avenger is definately classic.  If it has the folding wings, yes.  Thats the one I plan on doing.  It was the first model kit I every built as a kid, and I have had it in my stash just waiting.  And dont worry, I think a lot of us are going to be doing more than one build.  I mean, 11 months for a classic kit with NO AM parts.....   I know for me, I plan on doing three.  Cause most of the ones I chose only have like 20 parts total.  The F8U has the most, and thats mostly for the motor setup.

Hi - I'd like to join the build.  I've had the Monogram AT-6 Texan (kit #5306) on my shelf for years.  The copyright date stamped on the interior of the wing is 1979.  Decals might need to be replaced, though.  They're looking pretty yellow.

Ben....try 3GUYZ from Buffalo, NY.... cjltd@adelphia.net you will reach BobC....Great bunch, very trustworthy. Prices on classic kits are unbelieveably inexpensive!

I think I just bought their last couple Avengers and SBD's, but they just bought about 30 crates of all kinds of kits and are inventorying them now. You should have some luck!

I'm not advocating ebay, but who knows waht the end price will be on this & looks like it'll fit the bill for someone....

While looking at thos pics, the P-39 there, that is THE first model that I ever "built". I was about 6 y.o. & Dad "helped". Never thought I'd see that box again.
