Hiya Joe and crew!

Ebay is not being nice to me about getting a 1/48 PBY....but I have plenty of time to fight for one or look elsewhere.

I  do have a line on a PH B-17 though.....and may go that route.

spring 1940--the us fleet transfers from san diego to pearl harbor hawaii. this move prompts adm yamamoto to begin to expand japanese naval air power. he also begins to think that the japanese navy needed to choose the time and place in case of war with the united states.

I'll put in for a Wildcat, a Dauntless and a Vindicator.  All of the Marine Corp variety, of course!  Wink [;)]

Joe- The Penn kit I have is the 1944 version.  My 41 version is over 75% done at this stage.  So I'll go with the other ship.  I know it never changed.

Alright I've thought about this a little more. The ships I previously named are beyond my skills.

I was in Honolulu for the first time in '59 and things were pretty fresh. I also had some time at Hickam, so... my first memory, ever, was of what I'm going to model, which is the water tower at Hickam Field.

I hope that my model is able to include enough of the field to remind you all of the location, on that day.

forgot to cover a couple of things.

charles i have thought about doing that but havent due to many reasons.  too many to list.  however the builds in the past have drawn the attention of historians and museum folks.

rob the pennsylvania would be great, but remember she has to look as she did at the time of the attack.

bondoman that link is a good one and one that i use quite a bit.

for many of you this will be a rehash but ....

many many thanks to you that have shown interest in this.  thankyou for joining me in this.  i will work on getting a list up and working in the coming months.  as with last year there will be a cutoff date for entry (last year was first part of november) but that is a long ways off.

again many thanks.

bondoman thankyou for what you said.  i am glad you enjoyed last years build and hope this years is better for you.  i am also happy that this build was more than just putting plastic together.

Just looked, and I'm gonna add to mine.  The USS Avocet.  Its a seaplane tender that was moored just south of the USS California during the attack.  It shot down one of the "kates" that was diving on the California.  Kit is a 1:350 resin kit from Commander Models.

I'm still working on 2007, but it's coming soon.

F-Joe is as good a GB host as I've had the pleasure to work 4, guys. It's a real emotional experience, the last couple weeks of November in this GB, I thought. It meant a lot to me, so you're a good guy, Joe.

I had a great uncle at Pearl harbor, and a late friend of our family was also there.  It would be an honor to participate in the build.  Count me in!!

1:700 USS Pennsylvania  [It will be in 1944 configuration, I'm nearly done on my 1:350 1940 version]  The Penn was in dry dock and was in the process of going from the 1940 to the 42 version.  so if its ok, I would like to do her.  Thanks!

Joe:

I don't yet know what I'll be building, but count me in. It's been an honor an a priveledge to be in the 2007 GB.

By the way, have you ever thought of sending some photos or a montage of photos to one of the Pearlh Harbor veterans or survivors groups. I admit I don't know of one off hand, but I would imagine there are groups/website dedicated to this.

Just a thought.

yes folks pearl harbor 2008 the group build is in the works.

i have been privlidged to have three (as i consider them) successful pearl harbor builds.  this year i hope will be even more so.  this build will start on july 26 for the second year in a row.  it will end december 7.

the build is an obsession with me.  the survivors of this attack are dying at a rapid rate.  with them dies the memories.  this build is a tribute to them and what this attack meant to both the us and japan.

the rules again will be simple.

any subject is game, providing the subject was in hawaii during the attack of dec 7 1941.

military or civillian subjects are possible.

planes, boats, figures, tanks, artillary, cars, trucks, etc..

the only us carrier allowed is the uss enterprise.  inbound dec 7 1941.

all ships of the japanese first combined fleet are ok for this build.

i ask you to finish.  even if not in the posted dates for the build.  dont let it become part of the unfinished/never to be finished pile.

enjoy the build.  if it isnt fun it isnt worth doing.
