Thanks Steven, I am going to try your technique next time.

Mike- Looking good my friend!  I learned a trick from DrewH about lining up the wings on the Tamiya Corsair in the extended position.  Basically, you line up the top wing half and glue it down first- making sure everything is lined up.  Then, you attach the bottom half.  Easier to fill gaps on the leading edge after they are joined than between the inner and outer parts.  Also helps to add little squares of styrene stock to the inside lip of the inner wing for the outer panels to rest on.  Keeps the outer parts when attached from falling below the level of the inner parts.  HTH!

I haven't been in here for quite awhile.  Steven and all you guys - your Corsairs are looking terrific!!  I'm glad I posted my simple "off the assembly line" Tamiya some time ago.  It's pretty plain jane compared to the great work I see in here.  Keep it up and Happy New Year!

Harv- That's good enough for me.

I have gotten a little done on the twins in the last couple of weeks, but don't have any pics to share.  The LG is painted, cowl flap innards are painted, airframe seams are cleaned up , primered, and good to go.  My canopy masks should be here Tuesday so I can get the glass buttoned up.  Just have to add the radome, stall strip, and a few other bits on the night fighter then they're both ready to mask and paint.

Guess I better add a lil' update to get us back on page 1.

I wired the engines tonight, using fine fuse wire.  I only had to cut three different lengths, 18 short ones, 36 mediums and 18 longs.  YIKES!  These things are starting to look like sentinels from The Matrix!   Now, I just have to delicately add these to the cylinders and run the wires to their appropriate spark plugs.  A task for another day...

Just joining this GB now, better late than never! There's some cool builds posted already! I've been working on this for a the last month, Tamiya 1/48 F4U-1A. Although, I haven't been able to work on it since before Christmas. Hoping to get some more done this weekend. Here's what i have done already.

Wings dry-fitted and prop stuck on with blu-tak! Bit of weathering done too.

It's a lovely kit.

Keith -  That is some Fantastic work you have done with that Tamiya kit I really like how you have done the worn paint on the wings.

Superb work! She looks ready to fly off from an island airstrip -- beautiful weathering, subtle and very realistic!

I'm struggling a bit with this kit at the moment, the -1D version. She's built like a dream right up until attaching the wings. It took me three goes to get the port wing to line up right, and after two goes the starboard inner wing blanking plate cracked off and is now bonded firmly to the outer wing section... I've been ignoring it for the past week or two.

So I gotta ask, given that (by the looks of it) you mounted the wings after completion, how did you get such a flawless joint???

Mike, the wings in the pics are only dry-fitted, the blanking plates are still on the sprue. I may have the same trouble as you did when I fit them!

Hi Alfaspud -- I see, I shall wait in anticipation! A tip recently was to use some strip styrene on the inner edges of the inner wing stubs to force the alignment. I wish I'd done that, I really do... Of course, if building the wings folded, the problem goes away.

Keith that is some beautiful weathering on an outstanding build!!!!!!!!

Ok, here's what I have done of late.  The cowl flap innards received their coat of Salmon primer.  The LG is done, painted in Alclad aluminum and awaiting a wash and some weathering.  One engine is plumbed, and the other should be finished in a day or so (The first one crossed my eyes for hours!).  The wheel hubs were painted with Alclad, and are masked awaiting the tire color.  The night fighter has it's stall strip, outboard gun position faired over, and the radome was glued on today.  I also dipped the clear parts, and hope to get them mounted soon.  They should be ready for the paint shop as soon as it frees up from the FW-190!

  That is some seriously crazy, fine work you've done there.  I can't believe that you actually added all those little actuators in the cowling flaps and then ran a wire through them.  Do you have a cutting jig of some sort?  I can't fathom how you made them all exactly the same size.

Mike! I did have the same issue with the wings as you when i did glue them. The joints aren't great and the flash photography makes them look a lot worse than normal light, but I'll have to try and do something with them. Anyway heres a few more pics.

Frank, that is some cool detailing you've done, I want my engine looking like yours, can i post you the bits??

Working on the wheels and undercarraige next.

What a fantasic build, your paintjob is just breathtaking! On the wing mounting, I don't think you have anything to worry about -- seriously! The joints look equivalent to heavy panel lines, which is exactly as they should. I managed to line up my left wing to about the same degree of accuracy (you know the feeling, when you pass that indefinable point where your built-in error-detector says 'okay, it passes muster'), but the right is still lying next to the beast and mocking me with my inability to get it correct... One day I'll tackle the job, wrestle it to the ground and hog-tie it, but I think I'll finish a few other builds first!

Actually, I cut all the little brackets by hand with a hobby knife.  Just about drove me crazy doing it!   Wait, I think I was already crazy.  Does that mean I'm OK now?   Thanks again.
