Sorry no diorama, my skill level is just not there yet, plus I don't have the time to complete one. But I will make some sort of wood base for it though.

I'm gonna start a thread about this howitzer in the Armor section, later today, I'll put up bigger pics in that thread. Hope you check it out.

Here it finally is, my finished M-30 122mm Howitzer!! Used pastels for dirt, and iron powder for soot. Shell crates are painted in ModelMaster Enamel Italian Sand, with a burnt umber wash. Overall this Zvezda kit was a joy to build, however instructions were confusing in some areas, and some of the parts do have tricky positioning. Though I would still recommend this kit to anyone who has at least built a few kits before.  

All questions, comments, and suggestions welcome.

I have the Hobby carft kit in Korean War markings waiting at home. I also have the True Details cockpit and wheels so I hope to make this one fairly nice.

Yes, the sweep angle is better on the Hasegawa kit.  Too much on the Revell, and the Academy kit is off in other ways in my opinion.  The Revell F-86D has better upper surface detail and panel lines, and the aileron/tip configuration is correct for unmodified F-86A through early F blocks.  The triangle on the wing root is not present on the unmodified wings or on the F-86D.  It was necessary to allow the ammunition box doors to open.  On the early wings the wing root is right at the aft edge of that door.  With the leading edge extension the wing root would have trapped that door so it was necessary to make the wing leading edge easily removable in the overlap area. One bolt is all that holds it in place, accessible through a hole in the leading edge.  All ailerons on 37' 1" span Sabres form part of the wing tip.  The F-40 and F-86L wings had the 1 foot extensions to the wing making a span of 39' 1" and the ailerons stop inboard of the wing tip extensions.

I do have hundreds of photos of an F-20 with the 6-3 mod and the F-86L at the McClellan museum, but most are not up on my web site.  I have done detailed drawings of the F-20 6-3 wing but they are not quite done yet.

This is the Hasegawa in 1/48. It was a pretty nice kit to build.  The only area that gave me trouble was the nose area - the nose cone was wider than the fuselage.  I also added weights under the cockpit so that this would not tail drag.  

I used the True Details cockpit set (#49010) instead of the kit cockpit.  I did add to the kit gunsight with some small disks and decals to give it some life.  I also added a few details to the back deck since this are is exposed with the open canopy and the kit area is just blank. 

I've liked the T-34 so far, I still need to add the right side tracks and then weather it. I've read a few articles on the dot weathering method which I'm going to try so the results should be interesting.

I studied a bit on Sabres wings and thanks to your explanation I finally decided to take a shot.

I have Hasegawa F-30 kit and I got Revell F-86D. After some thinking I decided to do it exactly the same way as it was done on the field except opposite direction. I am going to cut a leading edge off of the F-30 Hasegawa F-30 set and tha same with Revell kit. Than I am going to use Revell leading edge (with slats) into Hasegawa kit.

 According to my sources Hasegawa kit has very good (practically perfect) sweep angle what is wrong on Revell kit. This is a reason I will keep Hasegawa wing and just replace the leading edge section.

 One thing bothers me though. The tip of the wing supposed to have aileron edge being part of the wing tip. None of the wings show this kind of configuration. 

Do you have any pictures of the early wing (prior to 6-3 modification or even better maybe you have some drawings of the early Sabres wings ??

BTW: I faund drawings of F-86 however those may be wrong since even "A" wing has triangles at the root. In my understanding those were features of 6-3 modifications on Fs and some Es.

That really is a beauty. I'm glad your first Alclad experience was a good one. Some are scared off by NMF but if you have good results, like your Sabre, it makes it easier to select a metal airframe the next time.

 Mucker - Here are some larger images for you.  I need to get some blue construction paper and make a better photo area.  I used Krylon Gloss black and followed Swanny's instructions for the use of Alclad - this was may first use of Alclad - I really like it! 

Dupes - I'm just starting to dabble in armor - I've only built a few armor kits, but have several in the stash that I want to get into soon. 

Wasn't I just saying something about awesome Sabres making me want to build a Sabre?

Steve - your definitely falls into that category! Those stripes, and decals, and NMF...all top-notch.

And you build armor, too...man after my own heart.

you really nailed that one! Wow! My only criticism is that the pictures are too small! Are you able to re-load them on Photobucket to a larger size, such as 640 x 480? That's a true beauty. If you re-photoed with a plan backdrop, you've got magazine article quality there.

The Alclad was flawless, too. What did you use as the undercoating for the Alclad?

Thanks!  This is the 1/48 Hasegawa F-86F-30.  I did paint the ID Stripes - what a lot of making!  There are also about a million decals to put on this bird - but the end result is well worth it.  I also used four shades of Alclad - Polished Aluminum, Duraluminum, Aluminum, and Pale Burnt Metal around the tail.

Ooooh, no, haven't seen that one. They included a bit of stuff about MiG Alley, but most of the show was devoted to the differences/similarities between the two a/c, and a lot of history. Very cool!

I don't know HOW many times I've watched a show on tMC and wanted to crack a kit out of it's box shortly thereafter!

Haha! I know the feeling. THere are so many kits I want to spend Quality time with, but simply not enough time to build.

I missed the show last night, but I'll look for it again. Have you seen the Mig Alley episode of Dogfights? That's one of my favorites.

There's still plenty if time left ....just wondering how everyone else (other than Harv!) is doing?

I should get one more in by the end of the year, but have a few other GB's to get to first.
