My 1/72 panther is bigger than it! and it can all most fit inside my 1/35 sherman turet!

but I still have'nt atached the cargo deck but that will only make it as big as the 1/72 panther.

Theres a great dio idea! from what I've read on the UE the germans captured quit a few and used them to transport amo and weapons to the front but some where converted in to littel artillery pices. the dio idea would be a couple of germans going through some captured bags and boxs of rashons amo and so on wile 2 more guys are pushing a UE up a ramp onto the back of a Framo.

Thanks guys for the coments.

The Penguin hasn't forgotten you, folks! I'm still in with my Revell Germany 1/72 Biber bridge-layer, with positionable bridge mechanism. So far, I've assembled the major bride components.

It's just that my current project has overrun slightly. But it should be finished by the end of this week, so then I'll be able to give the Biber my undivided attention (well, that's the theory, anyway).

Cheers,

Chris.

Penguin progress report!

I haven't reported much so far because there's not been much of interest to report.  I started by assembling the bridge components. These needed considerable sanding and filling to produce a clean result. Also, the cross-members between the bridge sections are very weak. I inserted short lengths of brass rod as reinforcements. Here we see the finished product, with an A7V tank crossing over.

Next up was the assembly of the lower hull and running gear of a standard Revell Germany 1/72 Leopard 2. In order to keep the tank on its tracks when launching the bridge, weight had to be added to the rear of the hull. The instructions suggest 25grammes. I added rather more, using woodworking pins as ballast. I set these in place with white glue, which gave more working time than superglue, as well as being less expensive and just as effective.

As it comes, the bridge launching arm can be modelled either raised - for launching - position or the lowered - for transport. However, I wanted to be able to make the arm semi-workable, so as to show the model in a variety of positions. Therefore, I drilled holes in the base of the arm and inserted a pivot made from a broken steel drill bit.

I did the same at the base of the hydraulic cylinder. I also drilled out the elevating cylinder and replaced the plastic piston with one made from brass rod, long enough for the arm to be displayed in both raised and lowered positions.

Next up is more routine assembly work, so It'll be a few days until I report again.

Cheers,

Chris.

Chris, nice job on the scratch work department. I like that you've added some "real steel" to you'r build lol.

By the way I was on a job site last week and saw these warnings on some buckets and of course thought of the Penguin guy

Got some time in on the B-Tiger this weekend. Its going together pretty well Even though I had to cut the kit fenders apart to keep the shape of the hull right for when I add the PE one's.

And heres were I'm at now

Construction went faster than expected, and I completed the main sub-assemblies this morning:

The forward launching arm went together without major problems, except that the fit of the side-pieces was none-too-good, and needed a fair bit of sanding and fettling. Also, the locating lug on the mounting base interfered with, rather than helped, fit, so I sanded it off.

The instructions would have you add the detail parts to the upper hull before cementing the upper and lower hull halves together. Clearly, that way, madness lies. The reason they do this is so that you can pass the forward arm elevating pistons through the hull front deck, and secure them with little plastic collars, so they won't fall out. I decided to take the risk, cement the two hull halves together (fit pretty good, except at the base of the glacis, which needed a little piece of plastic strip to make everything good), aand add the detail later.

The detail on the upper hull was a little soft in places, and I was concerned to see what looked, at first, like badly-moulded add-on track links on the glacis. However, I consulted my Big Boy's Book of Bibers,

 http://www.panzer-modell.de/referenz/in_detail/biber/biber.htm

and found out that they were ice cleats (for the bridge on-ramps, presumably), and they really did look quite a lot like Revell had moulded them. Not so much the moulded-on pioneer tools, though with careful painting, they should look OK. I replaced the kit tow ropes with ones made from braided copper electrical wire. Partly this was because the copper items look better, but mostly it was because the carpet monster ate one of the plastic ones....Whistling [:-^]

Also, the spacers nearest the bridge on-ranps kept breaking apart, so I removed them, drilled out their locations and replaced them with pieces of brass rod. Much stronger and more effective. Should have done it in the first place.

I've just undercoated the model in Humbrol 33 matt black . I'll leave that to cure for a day or so, and then it'll be time for NATO 3-colour camo in 1/72! Oh, what fun....

Cheers,

Chris.

Hey, Chris and Panzerguy. There is some quality stuff going on here. Chris thats going to be huge. I take my hat off to you sir. Thats some fantastic scratchwork.

Remember my Famo? It was generally accepted that it didnt have enough stowage. Well thats changed now. Whatcha reckon.

Ive also added a tow cable to the front. Its attached to the width indicators. Only because i have the Nuts and Bolts publication showing the same thing. There is also a picture, somewhere, of a Schwimmer in the back of a famo. If someone has it id love to see it. I think it was either in an Arnham book or one on the battle of the bulge.

Excellent stuff, Guy! Is the Schwimmwagen being recovered, or is it a lifeboat? And you know that you're now going to have to do another FAMO wiht a crane on the back, to lift it on and off, don't you?

The Biber is in 1/72, not 1/35, so it's big, but not massive. Think ,with the bridge deployed,  in terms of the length of a 1/72 B-29 fuselage. Yesterday I painted the bridge sections in Revell 65 Bronzgrun, and I'm currently painting the tank itself Tamiya NATO Black, and waiting between coats.

Cheers,

Chris.

Copy away my friend. I dont care LOL.

Chris if you look at the 1st pic, there are 2 planks that were used to load the thing. But i know what your saying. Ive got the Huge Tamiya spade for the Famo and i really want to do that one, oh and the one with the Pilsen? Crane LOL. So many ideas, so little time.
