FINISHED PICS!--Page 10--DML HORNISSE

WOW!! Came out great- love the lived in look you got- hey if it ever does turn into a dio or something with a base, maybe you can just stick Hans on the ground... he might have been pumping iron, but I think he needs to start up a regiment of sit ups or something... maybe a little too much vodka and summer sun?

The only smallest teeny nit pick I could even attempt to point out would be the wooden stocks on the MGs look too synthetic

I'm not saying paint woodgrain or anything.. but maybe some shading/highlight work to break up the monotone?

But the mud is cool enough to distract me so I guess it's fine!!

Guys, first of all, thank you, sincerely, for all the flattering praise, and very kind comments! I am blown away by the comments on this build. I'm surprised and thrilled to read that some of you think it's my "best" work yet! I'm always happy that you enjoy what I do here; I hope that the time that I take to document and share these builds show my love for the hobby, and for all of you!

I have decided against putting in the loading crew, since; A., the figures just aren't that great, and, B. they just obstructed the view. Perhaps if it were in a dio, they would be necessary, but I think I'll leave them out for now. Before you look at the finished pics, here's a new technique that I used for weathering to portray "splatter". I fully admit that I learned and borrowed this from Adam Wilder of MIG Productions. What you do is to load your brush up with paint--it should actually be more on the thick side--don't thin it! Then you blow your air stream from the air brush through it. If the planets are aligned right, you get a nice splatter of color on the model; I used it for the wheels and suspension, and sides, somewhat. WARNING! This technique is best practiced before you dare try it on the actual model--it can very, very quickly go awry! Keep a wet brush of water handy to wash off any errant spray--it took me three times to get the look I wanted! Here's how it's done. And here you can see the results on the front hull: Gentlemen, I present "My Horny 'Nisse" LOL! Weathering was done with MIG filters and washes, and pigments on the suspension affixed with MIG acrylic resin and MIG Pigment Fixer. No "sealing coat--Dullcoat, etc--was used anywhere. The muffler was completed with a combination of MIG pigments, and MIG 502 oils, ad well as drybrushed craft paints...   The cable is from Kayaba. Yes, it's wire--I had to anneal it on the stove burner. (Bill, I know, I know; I said I usually use twine...) The antenna is a guitar string...   Some of the deeper chips and scratches were made by using tan craft paint, which was then painted over with502 Abt. oil "Primer Red", which ws then painted in with a metallic grey--this gave a three-layer effect of paint degradation. I went "easy" on not overdoing these.   Hans is proud of his new convertible! It's a partywagen!  Some interior shots--note the "liberated" box of cognac/vodka... Hornisse's and Nashorns would fill their racks with shells and then literally stack the floor with the remaining tubes of ammo, to be put into the racks later. Another one for the collection. My case has been wanting one of these formidable jaegers! Next up--the Sdkfz 251/17 Ausf. D w/2cm Schwebelafette!  Comments and questions are of course, always welcomed! the doog

Ouch!............. the trouble with this build is that you will find it hard to go that bit better next time.

After looking at the shot of Hans and seeing the little splinter detail in his camo pants I was SURE you had the eyes (or the optivisor!) to get that done, I figured you'd have it on your to do list haha just making sure.

Scale wood grain always blows me away when it's done right, I attempt it, but 9 times out of 10 the stocks of my MGs end up looking like yours did anyway! Any tips or tricks? Or just a 00 brush and getting down to it..

No, I'm already working awayon a new build.I'm running out of display room, so every kit I build for some time now will be just a shelf queen!

   Karl your 'Randy Girl' deserves top shelf dead center if you ask me.

    That cammo looks perfect now that it's been blended with the base coat.

     And thanks for the tip on the splatter technique.

In other words, I just love it! You really got on down with this one.

I just painted them from the photo of the real ones at the Munster Tiger II. Thanks for the compliments though!
