Just like Campbell's Soup, Ed, MMMM, MMMM, GOOD!
Sorry, I would have checked in earlier, but I had a crazy crazy day. THanks for talking me down, man.
Bill
Excellent...:)
Edmund,
Another fine build is unfolding before us yet again! Your attention to detail proves that OCD is not an affliction if properly channeled. The one that caught my eye on this go around is the right headlight assembly is slightly askew. Yet, another detail when combined with all the others, convinces the viewer that this one has been off the dealers lot for a while.
Is the convertible top resin? Scratch? I'll give you a call this weekend.
As always, it is a treat to see what you've achieved.
Cheers
Dave
With enough thrust, pigs fly just fine.
Ed;
You are the master and i am but the humble student
Fantastic brother!
Bob
"Well...you gunna pull them pistols, or just whistle Dixie?"
Wayne & Dave: Parenting can be a thankless task at times but I console myself that I will walk up to my son when he is a teenager and knock him out of his socks when he leasts expects it and then we will be even for all this baby stuff!
Build Update: I did manage to start painting the Horch tonight and after going back and forth I dediced to use MM Acrl Sand as a basecoat over the Gunmetal and Calvary Brown. I folowed the same HP method as docuemnted on the weapon earlier in the thread so I will not go into much detail but show a few pics in progress and where I am at now. Model Master Acryl and Life Color paints chip quite easily with warm water. After chippign I applied a few different filters form MIG. I used Brown for Dakr Yellow and Tan for Dark Yellow follwed by a llittle streaking with Mig Nuetral wash. I also decided to leave the gun deck in primer to add visual interest and will weather in place with Mig pigments.
I read you 5x5 on the emotional map issue. I'll check my calendar in regards to the Pearson show. I've got a belt testing and tournament coming up and, I've double booked myself more than once. Heaven knows, I'd love to come up and see you and Bob. Not to mention the builds you've listed. If I bring anything it would probably be the Panther, since it's the only build I've done since the Evergreen show. Eric I believe is out of country at that time. Some place sunny and warm. I still have yet to meet him.
Schnobs Hi Marc, Thanks my friend but you are not too late I have three more of these trailers ready to be made in the near future so share away please!
Hi Marc,
Thanks my friend but you are not too late I have three more of these trailers ready to be made in the near future so share away please!
Seems like you have a pretty good handle on these boxes. Here is the one that I did.
Shoot me your email and I will send you all the pics that someone else sent me
Marc
Dave: Thanks Dave on both accounts the little guy is going to be just fine! I stayed up most of the night checking on him. You know emotional maps made before and after children are much different aren't they!
I hope you are going to be at the Pearson show on the 13th in Vancouver. I am bringing the Sherman, AS 42 and the LRDG Chevy, It should be fun! I am going to drive up that morning and meet you guys there.
psstofflilbro: Thanks man!
Ibuild: You are too kind! The first time I think I got something close to looking similar to the real thing I think it was my Sherman I called up my Sherman buddy and said. "It looks Real!", and he said in an exasperated tone "isn;t that the point!" I have stopped telling him when I build things that look real anymore!
Schnobs,
That 38 REALLY looks REAL! Thanks for the in-depth tutorial on how you achieved the look!

Great work Ed,
That looks awesome!
First things first. I am relieved to hear that your little guy is doing better. I understand the dad thing (my boy has got asthma) The ICU RN in me is also relieved since wee ones like that getting the flu puts up the hair on the back of my neck.
Oh boy howdy! This is stunning! Outstanding! Fantastic! I am going to have to try my hand at the hairspray thing on my next armor build. After the wingy thingy.
Bob: Sorry Bob I forget to reply been a little busy. My little guy got the flu yesterday and it was my first experience with a two year old really sick. Man I tell you it sucks feeling helpless when they don't know what is going on. I love that little guy with a fierce love so it wasn't a very good day yesterday but he seems better today which is a blessing.
SupressionFire: I apply three medium coats that leaves the surface quite wet and then I apply liberal use of my bench hair dryer. Just remember that if you use Tamiya as a base coat water alone will probably not work for chipping. Use a little Isotropy alcohol on a damp cotton bud and it will work like a dream. I would suggest a coat of Tamiya Clear before the HP layer which helps prevent chipping going through to the primer. Hope that helps and remember to use magnification while you are chipping and some patience with rest periods in between in order to achieve scale chipping. It is very easy to overdo this effect "less is more" is the mantra you should chant to yourself as you stand on lone leg whirling in a circle!
Schnobs, Awesome job on the ammo trailer! Just one more Q:
The hairspray technique, is it a mist coat or full coverage and I assume it lays flat / smooth after it drys? Im brave enough to just do it without playing on scrap first, just need to confirm it won't leave lumps.
Ed - no wonder I didnt get an email back. I hope you are better my brother. I see even though you may be under the weather you still can produce stunning work.
Aww Shucks! Thanks Steve Iam glad you like it! I still need to paint the leather straps and one half of the reflector. I drank to much coffee tonight so I will wait until tomorrow for that detail when my hands are steadier.
I iwll be hiting the Horch tomorrow!
THAT is beautiful.
White-34: Sorry man I don't know your name and you didn't fill out a Bio so please excuse my rudeness for not addressing you by name. Thanks for stopping by and I am glad I was able to get you excited about the possibilities with this older Tamiya kit. You should see the directions they are as yellow as my family bible!
Steve: There you are Young Man I was hoping you were peeking over my shoulder. Thanks for letting me know you are still out there and I am hoping we will see something from you soon....................??
Build Update:
I was able to finish the trailer today and i followed the same method as the Flak 38 except I added two coats of Vallejo Calvary Brown shot through my AB to provide that rusty metal look I like so well.
Well Ed, after lurking and watching It appears that it ALL has been said.
I have to say that this is definitely gonna end very well.....no doubt about THAT.
Man I was planing on ordering one of these my self. An now after seeing the chassis of yours, I ordering one real soon. Thanks for posting your work, an to the other guys thank's for posting all the B&W photo. I see there's all types of way I can build one. "Outstanding"
I apologize for the late reply to your posts. I was bitten by the Flue Bug on Thursday night. Correction I was attacked by the Flue Bug and the only medium I painted was Porcelain and I didn't use paint!
Wayne: I often ask myself the same question Wayne in the middle of a flurry of activity! Thank you for the kind words and support.
Boyd: Thanks Boyd! Good luck with your scratch building and if you mess up back up and try it again!
Andy: Hey Bodge you are so nice my friend thank you. I would love to see your Famo finished. One of those is on my build list with the trailer with a knocked out tank.
SupressionFire: Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment it is appreciated. If you look back a few pages you will see the retention system i have planned which be rusted rebar. I like the depth the spade provides deep into the driver compartment. It is visually interesting to me but you have a great ideal though.
Andy: Thanks Andy you are too kind! I will do my best not to let you down!
Amazing work you have done! I am speechless... not mute! I think you need to CORRECT your count from #12 to # 1-1-2. It is just hard for me to believe you that this is only your twelveth build... with the skills you have shown us. Looking forward to the finish.
Andy
Woah! With all the hairspray I figure you all must be 80's rockers sporting huge mullets!
Tried salt to a degree of success, will try the 'spray next time.
Excellent paint job on the Flak gun, just one Q:
The ground spade protrudeing into the driver's cabin. Wouldn't that piece be bolted onto the main frame? I would be tempted to cut it off and drill 4 bolt holes into the stub and paint Red oxide, rusty steel.

Wow Edmund this thing is looking superb. Your skill level shouts out that youve been doing this for tens of years. Your scratch work is great aswell and i must say noone documents it in as much detail as you my friend.I have yet to do the hairspray technique or the salt one so i will be looking up your work for reference when i eventually get round to finnishing the old famo. Great stuff Ed.
Edmund
WOW!
I have to be honest with you - your skill set just leaves me speechless. When I wonder how can it be done any better I know all I have to do is look at your next build to answer the question. Simply amazing.
I also want you to know that you have inspired me to try to push my boundaries back a bit and add to my skill set by doing some significant (but not nearly so significant as yours) scratchbuilding on my current build (a Marder 1A2 Schutzenpanzer for the Winter Warriors GB). (By the way, that means if I screw it all up, it's YOUR fault )
Really great stuff, Edmund....keep it coming. Oh, and as Bill said - where the hell is the rest of the paint??!!

Adam: Thanks again Adam for your enthusiastic support it is appreciated on these long builds.
Karl: Wow Karl that is very kind of you and thank you for the kind words. I did get my come uppetence with the shell basket though. After hours of PE torture I finally sprayed some CA Kicker to accelerate the curing process and called it good. I do have some lessons learned for the next one though so it will be easiser going forward.
Bob: Thanks Bob!
Wbill: Thanks Bill and yes I have some lessons learned on desert weatheirng that is God help us developing into a style. The trailer is next!
Looking very good there Mr. Ed! Can definitely see the heritage of the previous builds in your finishing approach as well as some new touches added. You know of course that now that you've started to show pics with paint that the forum won't tolerate any delays on the rest of the vehicle getting a similar treatment!

Ed - Im waiting to see the pictures of the 20mm gun you built...not the real thing..............LOL
Holy cow Ed, JAW DROPPING. You freaking stun me every time with your outstanding work.
Edmund, that gun is just truly superb--your weathering and painting are top-notch.I can't see anything I would have done differently, and would be proud to call that my own work.
If the rest of the model comes out anything like that gun, you're going to cement your place as one of the premiere finishers on this forum for sure. WOW. Fabulous!
How do I put this mildly.
It seems Schnobs has laid down the 20mm Benchmark
On this day, we are given a message....
Accept no mediocrity----model as if nothing else matters. Attempt to get results like Sir Edmund
But if you do not.........do not dispair....
