Hi guys,
Well, it's time for a new project on the bench, and with a new Leopard 2A4 in the pipeline from Meng, I have decided that it's time to build my Revell Leopard 2A4 lest it languish and perish in stash wasteland after the new molds are out.
This is my favorite tank. I love its boxy look and mean appearance. I have always been partial to the old "Gelb Oliv" finish that was around in the 80s when it first appeared, so that's what I'm going to finish this one in...
As you can imagine, this kit is fairly ancient, and it shows in the molding. I'm not going to go nuts with it, just replacing a few items that will really bring it up a few notches. I've got the AFV workable tracks for it, otherwise I was doomed to Italeri-esque two-part, stiff as a groom on a wedding night rubber band nightmares...
There's about a million parts to cut off and clean up, lol
Got some modern tool clamps too, since the ones in the kit are pretty dismal.
Construction so far is what you'd expect; not a hard build, but gosh, a LOT of clean-up to be done, and the plastic is typical brittle Revell. The turret has a cheezy molded-in camo net stowage on top, so cut that out and made a proper compartment for it.
Lotsa need for filling in seams and gaps too, as you can see by all the putty residue...
That's about how far I am so far...finishing this will be a lot of fun; a one-color tank again with lots of possibility for shading and color modulation. Still working on the plastic though...and then there's tose tracks to do...sigh.......can't wait to get to the paint!
