If anyone needs spares, I have quite a few leftovers (cannon, MG, exhaust, cuppola, you name it). I didn't save the pioneer tools I cut off the deck though.
I was going to a 'Tick check' for stuck bits but I was too tired.

the only piece that was officially lost from mine was the ylinger for the rear deck of the Dragon kit. i think it's a fire extinguisher?
have not seen it since. it is probably glued to my forearm or something.
used a bit of styrene rod & called it good.

i should have done better, as i had 2 kits, but far less distractions!

I didn' eventhink about a badge, I'll get to work on it when I get a chance. Everyone involved deserves one, it was a valiant effort all around.

I was wondering what happened to you Larry.
Bill, tweezerpult was a big part of my day, I guess I forget an offering to the modeling Gods. I had to cut the back of the roadwheel stem to make the hub on the other side. I had to file the tiny part flat after cutting and of course, click and it's gone. I hear to land and find it within seconds about 10 feet away on the other bench. Go back to the bench and again hear the sickening click and landing...about 10 minutes later I gave up. When I went to glue the hubs, I had 8 wheels and 8 hubs!? Either it stuck to my hand while I was on the floor looking or I hallucinated the whole thing. Still don't know.

Nothing to be sorry about Bill. I think you got heaps done, especially since I couldn't bring myself to touch the roadwheels on mine. If we organise a badge, you get yours along with everyone that participated, I think.

I would consider buying one of those kits you used, and building it for my office or something. They certainly make the Hasegawa kit i built look a little primitive. Let's not discuss the Airfix!

Okay, I'm throwing in the towel. I am beat. I'm gettin (have gotten!!) way too old to do these type of things. I managed to get about 4 hours of sleep durring all this, as well as having to do laundry, dinner for the kids, etc. (As well as watch the race...sorry guys, I'm weak!)

Anyway, I just fingerpulted (no tweasers involved) the headlight for my Dragon kit to the floor and spent 20 minutes looking for it, unsuccessfully, I might add!) Anyway, here is a pic of as far as I got. The Dragon Late with zimm is in the background (aren't the tracks a wonderful fit!), and the Revell H is in the front. I've got the track pieces for them partially weathered and they are drying.

Over all, they were both pretty clean builds. No real problems, other than my clumsiness! I used Tamiya neutral grey through my Aztec for the Revell and a can (most of it, in fact) of Tamiya rattle can Dark Yellow. It is no where near the color of what comes out of the bottle, and it's kind of a semigloss to boot! As you can see, I've got a long way to go on both of them. Guess I'll have to pass on the badge for this build. Sorry I didn't get finished.

total disaster here. ended up torching the whole thing. i wish i could post a pic but my crap ftp site is acting up again.

Did I succeed? Yes and no.

I'd wanted to build two tigers from s.Pz.Abt. 510 in Kurland in January 1945, rolling across a snow-covered base, and had all the stuff ready. I worked on them until around 2:30am Sunday morning, then got up at around 9 knowing I'd have all day to do it.

So I get up and start building and just finish the wheels, which completed the model, when I get a call that there's a bankruptcy alert for one of our borrowers and I have to come nito the office. Ok, I think, how bad can this be? I'd gotten essentally all of the building done. The base was also well under way. So I go into Manhattan, ruffled but not defeated.

I get back at 9pm. [:0]

So I have to paint the tanks, finish putting the snow over the frozen ground on the diorama, and then put the whitewash on the tanks. I planned to use Tamiya Flat base as a whitewash.

I almost did it.

But in the end it was the Tamiya flat base that defeated me. The paint wasn't sufficiently dry for it to turn uniformly white throughout, basically defeating me -- there was nothing I could do. It looked terrible.

So I did get a Tiger done -- the one I didn't put the Tamiya flat base on. The other one's done too, but it has this ugly white stuff smeared over certain parts and the three-color scheme is coming through on others.

Then again, I put only a crude three-color scheme on the two Tigers, as I had intended them to be mostly covered by whitewash anyway. So it's a toss-up whether even the un-whitewashed Tiger is "done."

Serves me right. Had I been less ambitious, the call from the office would not have thrown me off. As it is, I did not achieve my goal, but came close.

Oh well, I'll read all the posts tomorrow. Thanks to ausf for hosting this! It was quite a challenge, I did get the Tigers done, and I will finish the diorama tomorrow and post pics of that too.

I'm done!!! Wow, that was one huge day. I made my tiger and also put it in a dio! It took me 11 hours to do it all, and it was fun!!! Pics are coming within the hour everyone, I might even make my own thread and ask others to post their MTD "story" in one huge thread. I don't know, but it's nice to know that all the building is over, but also sad because it was fun. Good luck for everyone that's still slaving away. One tiger in One day is enough for me, man good luck for the guys building two in one day. But good luck and pics are on the way!

So, the kit went together ok, the dark green base coat turned out well, but I discovered that doing the fine line work on a 3 colour cam scheme is much harder than it looks. Did the scheme by brush, and to put it mildly, it's plug ugly. Thank God the wash turned out well. Now if it would only dry so I can finish the thing and get some sleep!!. Last night was a typically sleepless post-rugby match night, my boy had me up at 5:30 am, I started the insane MTD, laid the patio stones like I promised my wife (which was stupid beyond belief, but she must be obeyed), and have been at my bench since noon. I JUST WANNA GO TO BED!!!.
So, when do we do this again?

I've had it. done. I tried a mist of Buff and I think I blew it.

Guys...I'm done...not so much done with the model as just plain whipped. After way too much coffee (and Mountain Dew), I'm running on fumes.

Anyway, I posted my finished pics over in the other thread. A big thank you to Ausf for putting this together and everyone else for participating or commenting. This build, more than any other recent model, really brought back the memories of building models as a teenager. Granted, I'm a bit more careful than I was back then, but with age comes wisdom.

Hey, fellas, figured i'd join in the fun with my first tank since gradeschool. I have the Revell 1/72 Tiger 1 Ausf H, and all i can say is "damn those indy tracks"! Hehehehe... MTD is over, and i only have 90% of it done! hehehe... I spent most of the day trying to figure out how it all goes together!

I'll post pictures of what it looks like now, and hopefully it'll look halfway decent when i turn my airbrush on it.

Glad you made it under the gun Monrad, get some sleep. Great Build! The zimm looks awesome.

I have another 5 hours but I doubt I'll use 'em, I'm running out of steam here.
Just basecoated and will wash, paint and apply tracks in about an hour.

I really appreciate build time more now, I didn't realize how much I spent planning and positioning stuff.

The Dragon is a nice little kit. I haven't had to fill anything so far,BUT, the idlers don't line up. Even in my instructions they don't line up. I am going to have to go back and trim the axle, I think.
I'm falling behind schedule. I am doing the three colour paint scheme, and I only have the dark green on right now. No paint on the tracks either. I'm going to have to push hard to get it weathered. It's going to take forever for the wash to dry in the zim. Would it hurt the paint or the plastic if I helped it along with a hair dryer set on low?

Well, I'm into hour 16 since waking up at midnight last night and the finish line is in sight. I'm taking a little break before I try to hand paint all the molded-on tools, the cables, etc. After that, I'll apply the decals, weather with pastels and she should be done. Since I went to bed at about this time yesterday, I'm definitely into "overtime", but as my high school basketball coach used to say, "winners persevere, lossers quit!"

That Dragon is a nice kit. The Airfix.......well.......ahem.

OK, then here comes my first pics...

First of all, the beginning (as it happended!): Revell's 1/72 early Tiger I; I've just opened the plastic bag, and the first impressions are rather positive.


Two hours down the line, and first impressions are indeed sometimes deceptive. The kit IS good, but there are a few areas where things get a bit copmplicated, because of tight, very tight fit. I've blanked off the engine grilles.


Building the tracks in such a short time is not so easy... Normally I add only a few links at a time, then let them dry for an hour or so before adding more... Of course, that is not acceptable today. The right track is done after 4 hours of work; I'm left with 1/2 length of a track link to fill... Damn it! No going back. I'll need to disguise that somehow. The air filters location is really vague, and the rubber tubes connected to those filters are too long... Darn it! Surgery, cutting down the length of those tubes, and replicating the new joint plate with plastic card. I hate you sometimes Revell! Some milliput needed at the top of the turret.


A (long) break later (I had to, the wife told me to go and work!), I'm back at it, completing the left track (no problem there!). I've since the last picture also added handles and new tow cables, new front mudguards. The build itself is completed. The painting will come next, but not before some rest!

Wildwilliam, your zimm looks very good! Shame you did not get a better kit to start with! But it will look good, I'm sure, when you're finished with it!

I'm uploading pics as I write, but my day's been a bit too long and I need some real rest. My build is completed, as you'll soon see, but I'll still have to prime and paint the model. Wish I had had more time at home today, as I think I could have done it... It's been great fun, in any case! Thanks Ausf for the idea and the drive behind the concept (which I borrowed as you know, in the Aircraft Forum..!). Count me in for any other "Mad ??? Day".

I'm going to start one now, just add picks as you finish.

That was fun but if I had to do it again I'd steal the vinyl tracks out of another kit what a pain. I built it oob and only detailed a few things on it such as drilling out the barrel (a little to much) opening up the smoke candles a little more (more drilling). All in all though its a decent kit and wasnt to difficult to assemble.
