7 hours in for me.
sun has come up, and i have had enough for now.
i have cobbled the Airfix hull together and gotten the wheels on some how.
in the picture below with the idelr cranked around,
it was not until i looked at the picure that i realized what to do.
i had to cut back the molded piece the idler rests against.
it sticks out too far.

i can't help but think if i had just built the Dragon kit, i would have a lot more done.
:-)

time for a nap, i think.

Matt, congrats!
well done. looking forward to seeing it.

keep plugging, Robert!
Monrad,
wow! looks like a Tiger tank!
no sign of any Tigers here.
perhaps in a few hours . . .

WW - nice pics!

Boy, it got real quiet in here all of a sudden. Five hours down for me and I have one side hull and the turret to Zimmerit yet. The hand, right wrist, and right tricep are all screaming at me. Oh, well...no pain, no gain.

Enjoy your modeling...

Robert,
your Zim looks very good to my inexpert, bloodshot eye!
:-)

well, it is 5am here.
things are going along.
Airfix kit will be a battle of wills. i am beginning to suspect that
this is Britain's revenge on those who would build Axis armor!
:-)
the many hull piece assemble loosely into something like a hull.
a Tiger hull you ask?
i could not tell you.
anyway, if you were worried you would forget which is part 5 and which is part six,
here is a simple way to keep it straight:

here are some Dragon progress pics:

and a comparison of hulls & tracks.
i don't think i need point out which is which:

to be fair, i should point out that only 5 of the 7 Airfix lower hull pieces are in place.
once the wheels are on piecs 5 & 6 (you know which those are!)
they will be added.

some tracks drying w/ flat black on.

well, back to the bench.
guess i will face the terror of the Airfix wheels.

Dragon wheels were entertaining too.
no real 'positive' fit on the 'middle' wheel groups.
in case you are wondering why mine go every which way!

Here's a quick pick of the Zimmerit I'm embossing. What do you think? Realistic for the scale?

Robert, you are making me feel very guilty about the amount of effort I put into my build!
Good luck, I bet it will be worth it!

I have actually finished! I finally sorted out my issues with the roadwheels, gave it a rudimentary weathering and voila. My Girlfriend even painted the little men it came with. It could do with a clear flat, but I am a little wary about whacking that on just yet. Probably never will, actually, it is hardly a museum piece.

Looks I get line honours on Mad Tiger Day! Nothing like a massive headstart.

Ausf, do we keep the final pics a secret?

Sounds like everyone is moving right along.

With 2 1/2 hour gone, I may have bitten off more than I can chew. I'm building the Revell kit and as everyone has pointed out, the drawback with this kit is the lack of Zimmerit. So I says to myself, "Self, why not just add Zimmerit and it will be a pretty darn accurate build." But how to add Zimmerit in an OTB build? Simple...

For the past 2 1/2 hours (with a short break in the middle) I have been coating all of the parts needing Zimmerit with Tamiya's Extra Thin Cement and then "embossing" a Zimmerit pattern into the plastic with a jeweler's screwdriver. Man! Does my hand hurt and I'm only about 1/3 done with the parts that need it. I've also glued a few parts together and have been cleaning up parts (very litttle needed) to rest the hand, but this is going to eat up a lot of time.

Anyway, great pics so far and continued good luck to all.

wildwilliam - Thanks to your discovery, I now know which Tiger I kit to never buy!

Enjoy your modeling...

Did you notice the Wink [;)] at the end of that message? MEans I was kidding. Of coruse it would be silly to disallow PE that comes with the kit, which you need in order tto build it.

Anyway, I've stayed up way past what I had in mind. I've got the turret work done (completely built, have shot the rust on the treads, and have started on the base. Now, off to bed!

i have PE exhaust covers in the Dragon kit.
or maybe they are just brass.

in any case, shot some grey on the Airfix bits/
on closer examiantion, the true horror of it is revealed . . .
the ejecot pin marks are on the OUTSIDE of the pieces that have the road wheel axles!
BUT that ain't the half of it . . .
wait for it . . .
the part number is molded to the outside of these pieces too!
now if that does not take the cake!
hopefully the roadwheels will hide this.
because i painted over it and am pressing on!
abt ten of 3 am local.
still hacking along.

Good morning all. 4 hours sleep is enough for anyone.
Just read through the posts and I am now ready to continue my build. BTY, my kit also contains PE exaust covers and metal tow cables so they will be used.

7.22 am in England and my Tiger is 95% built. Only remaining on the sprues are a few track links, the gun barrel, the grenade launchers, the headlights and the front mudguards (don't ask me why!)... This little Revell kit gave me a few troubles, and I did have to get some Milliput to fill in a few little gaps. I have added a few handles in metal wire and have scratched the towing cables. I need a break now. Will post pics later. Have a great MTD, people!

Sorry, Larry, but I think you're wrong about that one. As I recall the question did come up when Ausf first put the idea forward and the rule was that if the kit came with the pe, you could use it. You could use anything in the box, but nothing more.

Here's my opening pic. Oops, guess I'd better get it off my camera first. Hope Ron's site is up!! ...

All are unopened...but not for long! Now to decide where to start!!

Will was the sprues, then head to bed. I don't seem to be able to stay up as well as some of you. Not a night owl anymore.

Okay, Eric, you got me...guess I was already tired when I read your post about doing a 1/35th!

See y'all in the morning!

Well I got the "ok" from ausf 3 months ago, so I see no problem here. I asked him before he made the rules if it was ok to use PE if it was in the kit because I already had this kit in mind, and he said yes.
Besides I think the main thing here is to have fun, I have alot of fun already. Smile [:)]

well, 2 hrs and 2 cups of coffee in
i have painted the roadwheels and the lower hull for the Dragon kit.
assembled part of the turret.
glued the back pate on the hull, the gun to the mantlet and put the fenders on.
words cannot describe my disgust w/ the fenders.
they have pins to mount them, but no holes in the upper hull for the pins.
no half holes from the back like they did w/ the deck.
so i dorked around trying to figure out where exactly they go.
then i sanded the pins off.
amazingly, i still saw no indication of where the holes should go!
used slo CA.
they fought me every millimeter of the way.
i think the warped one fit better than the straight.
hopefully not too much of the beautifully molded Zim will be marred
by this effort!
and my left index finger is nice & crispy w/ CA residue!
my regular zap bottle kept clogging, so i cut the top off.
well, the roadwheels are probably dry by now.
better start making sets!

the Airfix kit sits neglected so far.
should probably shoot some paint on those bits too!

current battle plan is:
Dragon kit - 3 color camo
Airfix kit - Panzer grey for J-Hulk!
:-)

Australia is blundering through MTD. It is nearly 3:00pm here. I have painted my tiger and it's tracks. I have a headache. I still haven't been able to push through the pain barrier and look at the roadwheels yet. They are still on the sprue and I have put them into another room so they cannot look at me. Very tired, and I have only been out of bed for 5 hours. I am wondering if my pre-MTD activities were all that wise.

Good Morning MTD!!!

I got up about 20 minutes ago after a very nice 8 hours of sleep, put the coffee on, opened the forums, and perused this thread. Took 5 minutes out to take my pictures at the top of the hour and here we are.

MTD has officially begun in the Central Time Zone!!!

Here's the Weather Channel:

Here's the kit:

Completing a 1/35 in a 24 hour period would drive one to madness AND exhaustion I would think...but then perhaps that's the point? Good luck to all the MTDers an keep those pics coming!

Ok, here's my qualification picture. Anyone notice anything unusual about the kit sprues? If you can see it, you win a cookie.

And so it begins, as that king guy says in The Two Towers ....

I'm starting in seven minutes ....

Probably won't do much tonight. I think I'll just paint the treads rust, build the turret so I can putty it and let that dry, and then see if I'm still awake.

Still have 2 1/2 hours to go here in Utah for the start! Glad to see some of the other starts already. Austrailia an the PI ought to be just about finished!

Picked up a can of Tamiya Dunkelgelb at the LHS today. Also picked up Dragons brand new, zimmeritted BergeTiger!! I might have two of these puppies going at the same time!

Hope everyone is having fun. Will post in a few hours.
