Ed,
Ya just made me gag with the Airfix pic. uughhh.
That DML Zimm does look good...Can't tell if the lower hull is die cast. Is it?

Monrad, that's the first official entry, beautiful!

Ausf,
not sure what you mean w/ the lower hull.
if you are asking abt zim, it has it on the front & back
but not on the sides where the wheels will go (which makes sense!).
it is styrene like the rest of the pieces, if you meant die cast like metal.

Monrad -
go, man, go!
looks like i better start getting organized.
i am reading my instructions, trying to get a feel for the Dragon 'style'
(i have never built a dragon kit.)
and for the Airfix, i guess i have 4 1/2 hours to find a Humbrol color chart!
:-)

I am ready to start, here is the first pic. Had to get the wife to hold up the box before she went to bed. Off to the garden workshop now for a couple of hours.

I can have a late one tonight as I am on nights tomorrow and will need a sleep tomorrow day before going in.
Good luck to all players.

Very nice array of kits, alot of variety. How come noone is doing a 1/35? Wink [;)]

Ed, I like the zim on that Dragon kit, hopefully they will do that on some of their 1/35.

Ok, so here is the 2 hour report. It has now been 2 hours since I started my build, and things are coming along very nicely. First I painted the tracks with humbrol gunmetal ( no pics, sorry ) and they are now drying.

The turret is assembled, the roof was a poor fit so I had to put some filler in along the edge.

The hull is also assembled, or atleast the major part of it. I have also glued the PE zimmerit to the sides of the hull.

and already the workbench looks likea battlefield.

3AM, time for bed. Here is my progress. Should be ready for some paint when I get up.

Until tomorrow

Just noticed the time stamp on my camera is GMT. At the moment we are in British summer time so it is showing 1 hour early. The real time is now 03:09

Midday here in Australia. I dragged my carcass out of bed and went and got a paper a little earlier.

I have started my Tiger, too. They sure are little, aren't they? I have already made one gluey fingerprint. There could well be more.

Eric, nobody is building 1/35 because 1/72 was one of the guidelines!

Still have 2 1/2 hours to go here in Utah for the start! Glad to see some of the other starts already. Austrailia an the PI ought to be just about finished!

Picked up a can of Tamiya Dunkelgelb at the LHS today. Also picked up Dragons brand new, zimmeritted BergeTiger!! I might have two of these puppies going at the same time!

Hope everyone is having fun. Will post in a few hours.

I was teasing Bill. Wink [;)] That would be something to see someone build it in a day though.

Hey, someone is using PE. Tongue [:P] I think that gives me a little leeway to step away from the kit just a smidgen. (Thanks guy who used PE!)

I'm starting in seven minutes ....

Probably won't do much tonight. I think I'll just paint the treads rust, build the turret so I can putty it and let that dry, and then see if I'm still awake.

Ok, here's my qualification picture. Anyone notice anything unusual about the kit sprues? If you can see it, you win a cookie.

And so it begins, as that king guy says in The Two Towers ....

See ya tamarrer.

Completing a 1/35 in a 24 hour period would drive one to madness AND exhaustion I would think...but then perhaps that's the point? Good luck to all the MTDers an keep those pics coming!

Good Morning MTD!!!

I got up about 20 minutes ago after a very nice 8 hours of sleep, put the coffee on, opened the forums, and perused this thread. Took 5 minutes out to take my pictures at the top of the hour and here we are.

MTD has officially begun in the Central Time Zone!!!

Here's the Weather Channel:

Here's the kit:

Enjoy your modeling...

Australia is blundering through MTD. It is nearly 3:00pm here. I have painted my tiger and it's tracks. I have a headache. I still haven't been able to push through the pain barrier and look at the roadwheels yet. They are still on the sprue and I have put them into another room so they cannot look at me. Very tired, and I have only been out of bed for 5 hours. I am wondering if my pre-MTD activities were all that wise.

Couldn't find my xacto knife, couldn't get my airbrush to work.

So, all is going just as planned .... [laugh]

Going to bed soon.

well, 2 hrs and 2 cups of coffee in
i have painted the roadwheels and the lower hull for the Dragon kit.
assembled part of the turret.
glued the back pate on the hull, the gun to the mantlet and put the fenders on.
words cannot describe my disgust w/ the fenders.
they have pins to mount them, but no holes in the upper hull for the pins.
no half holes from the back like they did w/ the deck.
so i dorked around trying to figure out where exactly they go.
then i sanded the pins off.
amazingly, i still saw no indication of where the holes should go!
used slo CA.
they fought me every millimeter of the way.
i think the warped one fit better than the straight.
hopefully not too much of the beautifully molded Zim will be marred
by this effort!
and my left index finger is nice & crispy w/ CA residue!
my regular zap bottle kept clogging, so i cut the top off.
well, the roadwheels are probably dry by now.
better start making sets!

the Airfix kit sits neglected so far.
should probably shoot some paint on those bits too!

current battle plan is:
Dragon kit - 3 color camo
Airfix kit - Panzer grey for J-Hulk!
:-)

Well I got the "ok" from ausf 3 months ago, so I see no problem here. I asked him before he made the rules if it was ok to use PE if it was in the kit because I already had this kit in mind, and he said yes.
Besides I think the main thing here is to have fun, I have alot of fun already. Smile [:)]

Sorry, Larry, but I think you're wrong about that one. As I recall the question did come up when Ausf first put the idea forward and the rule was that if the kit came with the pe, you could use it. You could use anything in the box, but nothing more.

Here's my opening pic. Oops, guess I'd better get it off my camera first. Hope Ron's site is up!! ...

All are unopened...but not for long! Now to decide where to start!!

Will was the sprues, then head to bed. I don't seem to be able to stay up as well as some of you. Not a night owl anymore.

Okay, Eric, you got me...guess I was already tired when I read your post about doing a 1/35th!

See y'all in the morning!
