Just wanted to check on you guys and see how it's going! Fantastic progress apprears to be the best description of how you're all doing. Wish I could lend more then just encouragement but you're a robust sounding group. Hang in there, none of you should have any trouble getting letters of recommendation to your local rest home after this.*NOTE* were not allowed to call them nut wards anymore. semper fi, mike

6 hours to go and I have to go to work now. Here are my latest progress pics.

Hopefully I will have a quiet shift and compete before midnight. I will only be able to post again in the morning, but I will keep a record on camera with the time stamp showing.

Ok here are the last pics before I finish this one. The basic paint job is finished and Im NOT happy with it, had it not been for the time limit I would have repainted it. But there is a time limit so ..... too bad. Now it just needs some weathering, and its done.....oh and markings ofcourse.

WOW!
looks like i better drop a match on mine!

nah, i'm no quitter.
but i'll tell you
1) i take back what i said abt the fit on the 'middle' roadwheels on the Dragon.
i guess if you put the bushings ing, they fit better!!
there will be at least 8 pices still on the sprue when i am done,

2) man, the Airfix turret is fun. NOT!
i am not sure if i have enough gap filling CA to get this
glued together and fill the seams !!

here are some progress pics.
hard to believe i have worked 2 hours today on this!
i will have them in the paint shop soon.

Monrad,
well, i like your paint!

Dave,
looking good. hope you have a quiet shift.

i am sure my neighbors like the Iron Maiden i am playing almost as much as
they were digging my compressor running at 3 am!

Ausf, I can't believe you are re-doing all that to your kit!!

Wildwilliam, I hurt for you... That Airfix kit is a nightmare. But I'm glad you're keeping the spirit high!

Monrad, I can't believe you're that far into your build!

Update from me: had to stand in for a face-painting job so I lost most of my day painting snotty kids. I'm back now, need a shower though! Be getting back to the beast soon enough. Do not expect to complete the assignment anymore but I'd like to it the primer stage, and maybe the first coat of desert sand if poss... (yes, Ausf, that is the early Tiger, there!)

Any truth in those accounts of 'pea-green' Tigers in Africa???

Keep building everyone!

I am currently dead in the water here...

Waiting for glue to dry on the roadwheels. Still have to drill out the hubs and clean 'em up. The tracks are in temporarily to hold the RW in place. It seems when you change the order of the wheels and narrow the tracks, the alignment becomes a problem.Banged Head [banghead]

Brewing up some Coffee, I'm getting giddy...9 hours left, crap.

Yeah Domi,
I think I'm a lock for Mad Tiger Day Abject Stupidity Award. I'm building the remains of the Trial in Tunisia, led by the British Armor branch. They captured a gutted Tiger in a shop and conducted 'fire trials' against the armor. They hit it with all different rounds from all different angles and ranges. It was captured with the transportation tracks so I thought, hey, should be easy, right? RIGHT?

Now I just have to put the superstructure together and add about 90 holes.Tongue [:P]

Great work so far guys! Should I start a new thread for finish pics tonight?

Ausf,
you will be locked up after this!

a new thread for the finished pieces sounds like a good idea to me.
but i got 4 hours sleep, so i might not know!

here are more pics from my progress.
Airfix turret is a mess.
can't decide if i should try to fix it some more, or only photograph it from flattering angles.
(like from UNDER the table, maybe!)

Well heres mine all finished along with some other pics.
http://img1.photobucket.com/albums/1003/cplchilly/?action=view¤t=billsmodels.jpg
That was fun but if I had to do it again I'd steal the vinyl tracks out of another kit what a pain. I built it oob and only detailed a few things on it such as drilling out the barrel (a little to much) opening up the smoke candles a little more (more drilling). All in all though its a decent kit and wasnt to difficult to assemble.

Cplchilly, congrats indeed! You did it.

Wildwilliam, your zimm looks very good! Shame you did not get a better kit to start with! But it will look good, I'm sure, when you're finished with it!

Ausf, you get the Mad as a Hatter Award, for sure..! Your tracks look great though! It's gonna make a special model..!

I'm uploading pics as I write, but my day's been a bit too long and I need some real rest. My build is completed, as you'll soon see, but I'll still have to prime and paint the model. Wish I had had more time at home today, as I think I could have done it... It's been great fun, in any case! Thanks Ausf for the idea and the drive behind the concept (which I borrowed as you know, in the Aircraft Forum..!). Count me in for any other "Mad ??? Day".

dj, i think you are confusing my kits.
the one w/ the good Zim is the Dragon,
they molded the zim for me.
the POS grey thing is the Airfix.
they put some flash in a box so i could carve a Tiger out of it.
:-)
but for < $5 US, i should not whine.

OK, then here comes my first pics...

First of all, the beginning (as it happended!): Revell's 1/72 early Tiger I; I've just opened the plastic bag, and the first impressions are rather positiveTongue [:P].

Two hours down the line, and first impressions are indeed sometimes deceptive. The kit IS good, but there are a few areas where things get a bit copmplicated, because of tight, very tight fit. I've blanked off the engine grilles. Shy [8)]

Building the tracks in such a short time is not so easy... Normally I add only a few links at a time, then let them dry for an hour or so before adding more... Of course, that is not acceptable today. The right track is done after 4 hours of work; I'm left with 1/2 length of a track link to fill... Damn it! No going back. I'll need to disguise that somehow. The air filters location is really vague, and the rubber tubes connected to those filters are too long... Darn it! Surgery, cutting down the length of those tubes, and replicating the new joint plate with plastic card. I hate you sometimes Revell! Some milliput needed at the top of the turret.Black Eye [B)]

A (long) break later (I had to, the wife told me to go and work!), I'm back at it, completing the left track (no problem there!). I've since the last picture also added handles and new tow cables, new front mudguards. The build itself is completed. The painting will come next, but not before some rest!Dead [xx(]

DITTO!!! That's a classic!

Well, I'm into hour 16 since waking up at midnight last night and the finish line is in sight. I'm taking a little break before I try to hand paint all the molded-on tools, the cables, etc. After that, I'll apply the decals, weather with pastels and she should be done. Since I went to bed at about this time yesterday, I'm definitely into "overtime", but as my high school basketball coach used to say, "winners persevere, lossers quit!"

Enjoy your modeling...

:-)

The best description of a bad kit I have ever read.
The Dragon is a nice little kit. I haven't had to fill anything so far,BUT, the idlers don't line up. Even in my instructions they don't line up. I am going to have to go back and trim the axle, I think.
I'm falling behind schedule. I am doing the three colour paint scheme, and I only have the dark green on right now. No paint on the tracks either. I'm going to have to push hard to get it weathered. It's going to take forever for the wash to dry in the zim. Would it hurt the paint or the plastic if I helped it along with a hair dryer set on low?

Glad you made it under the gun Monrad, get some sleep. Great Build! The zimm looks awesome.

I have another 5 hours but I doubt I'll use 'em, I'm running out of steam here.
Just basecoated and will wash, paint and apply tracks in about an hour.

I really appreciate build time more now, I didn't realize how much I spent planning and positioning stuff.

Hey, fellas, figured i'd join in the fun with my first tank since gradeschool. I have the Revell 1/72 Tiger 1 Ausf H, and all i can say is "damn those indy tracks"! Hehehehe... MTD is over, and i only have 90% of it done! hehehe... I spent most of the day trying to figure out how it all goes together!

I'll post pictures of what it looks like now, and hopefully it'll look halfway decent when i turn my airbrush on it. Big Smile [:D]
