7.22 am in England and my Tiger is 95% built. Only remaining on the sprues are a few track links, the gun barrel, the grenade launchers, the headlights and the front mudguards (don't ask me why!)... This little Revell kit gave me a few troubles, and I did have to get some Milliput to fill in a few little gaps. I have added a few handles in metal wire and have scratched the towing cables. I need a break now. Will post pics later. Have a great MTD, people!

Good morning all. 4 hours sleep is enough for anyone.
Just read through the posts and I am now ready to continue my build. BTY, my kit also contains PE exaust covers and metal tow cables so they will be used.

i have PE exhaust covers in the Dragon kit.
or maybe they are just brass.

in any case, shot some grey on the Airfix bits/
on closer examiantion, the true horror of it is revealed . . .
the ejecot pin marks are on the OUTSIDE of the pieces that have the road wheel axles!
BUT that ain't the half of it . . .
wait for it . . .
the part number is molded to the outside of these pieces too!
now if that does not take the cake!
hopefully the roadwheels will hide this.
because i painted over it and am pressing on!
abt ten of 3 am local.
still hacking along.

Did you notice the Wink [;)] at the end of that message? MEans I was kidding. Of coruse it would be silly to disallow PE that comes with the kit, which you need in order tto build it.

Anyway, I've stayed up way past what I had in mind. I've got the turret work done (completely built, have shot the rust on the treads, and have started on the base. Now, off to bed!

Sounds like everyone is moving right along.

With 2 1/2 hour gone, I may have bitten off more than I can chew. I'm building the Revell kit and as everyone has pointed out, the drawback with this kit is the lack of Zimmerit. So I says to myself, "Self, why not just add Zimmerit and it will be a pretty darn accurate build." But how to add Zimmerit in an OTB build? Simple...

For the past 2 1/2 hours (with a short break in the middle) I have been coating all of the parts needing Zimmerit with Tamiya's Extra Thin Cement and then "embossing" a Zimmerit pattern into the plastic with a jeweler's screwdriver. Man! Does my hand hurt and I'm only about 1/3 done with the parts that need it. I've also glued a few parts together and have been cleaning up parts (very litttle needed) to rest the hand, but this is going to eat up a lot of time.

Anyway, great pics so far and continued good luck to all.

wildwilliam - Thanks to your discovery, I now know which Tiger I kit to never buy!

Enjoy your modeling...

Robert, you are making me feel very guilty about the amount of effort I put into my build!
Good luck, I bet it will be worth it!

I have actually finished! I finally sorted out my issues with the roadwheels, gave it a rudimentary weathering and voila. My Girlfriend even painted the little men it came with. It could do with a clear flat, but I am a little wary about whacking that on just yet. Probably never will, actually, it is hardly a museum piece.

Looks I get line honours on Mad Tiger Day! Nothing like a massive headstart.

Ausf, do we keep the final pics a secret?

phroosh (and all other early enders).

How about if we all agree to wait until a set time then post our final pics? I'm thinking noon Monday GMT, or something similar.

Ausf - What do you think? This is your baby!

Here's a quick pick of the Zimmerit I'm embossing. What do you think? Realistic for the scale?

Robert,
your Zim looks very good to my inexpert, bloodshot eye!
:-)

well, it is 5am here.
things are going along.
Airfix kit will be a battle of wills. i am beginning to suspect that
this is Britain's revenge on those who would build Axis armor!
:-)
the many hull piece assemble loosely into something like a hull.
a Tiger hull you ask?
i could not tell you.
anyway, if you were worried you would forget which is part 5 and which is part six,
here is a simple way to keep it straight:

here are some Dragon progress pics:

and a comparison of hulls & tracks.
i don't think i need point out which is which:

to be fair, i should point out that only 5 of the 7 Airfix lower hull pieces are in place.
once the wheels are on piecs 5 & 6 (you know which those are!)
they will be added.

some tracks drying w/ flat black on.

well, back to the bench.
guess i will face the terror of the Airfix wheels.

Dragon wheels were entertaining too.
no real 'positive' fit on the 'middle' wheel groups.
in case you are wondering why mine go every which way!

WW - nice pics!

Boy, it got real quiet in here all of a sudden. Five hours down for me and I have one side hull and the turret to Zimmerit yet. The hand, right wrist, and right tricep are all screaming at me. Oh, well...no pain, no gain.

Enjoy your modeling...

7 hours in for me.
sun has come up, and i have had enough for now.
i have cobbled the Airfix hull together and gotten the wheels on some how.
in the picture below with the idelr cranked around,
it was not until i looked at the picure that i realized what to do.
i had to cut back the molded piece the idler rests against.
it sticks out too far.

i can't help but think if i had just built the Dragon kit, i would have a lot more done.
:-)

time for a nap, i think.

Matt, congrats!
well done. looking forward to seeing it.

keep plugging, Robert!
Monrad,
wow! looks like a Tiger tank!
no sign of any Tigers here.
perhaps in a few hours . . .

7 AM here, and I can't believe how much some guys have done. Anyway here is my starting pic. Once I've done this, I'm going to give the kit an acrylic base coat on the sprues. I still have things to do around the yard today, but I have all afternoon and evening to build. The paint will be dry by then.

It's the Dragon kit, btw. Good luck to all.

Now, a sane man who finds himself alone in his house on a Sunday morning would spend the next three hours reading that paper. Well I guess that makes me insane because I'm building a Tiger.Approve [^]

A bit of wash (the model, not me) and I'm off...

Good Morning sleepy-heads!

Great looking pics so far. Probably another 6 hours or so before we see a whole herd of Tigers. Actually, since Tigers are solitary animals, I guess it will just be a loose gathering!

6 1/2 down, 17 1/2 to go...All my Zim is done and the lower hull components are lightly clamped and drying. After this break, come the dreaded road wheels. Might need to take a chow break here as well...the two pots of coffee (so far) just aren't filling the void properly.

Until next time...

The Gazette! I miss that paper. I remember getting it in the bar after the Habs games with THE game results and interviews!

Great idea on waiting and a new threads guys! Originally I was to collect all finished photos and post them anonymously but that would kill my email. Holding off to a preset time is a excellent solution.

Builds are looking great, I feel like the slacker by sleeping last night. Gotta go!

Okay, Talk about a bit of panic:
First problem while washing the parts....This kit is the real early one, Tunisia early with the old fenders and exhaust covers. That means my plans are out the window and I'm rifling through my library for a substitution.

And you said you only needed 8 hours to do this, you'd wish you hadn't slept for 7 hours first.

No really I hope it will turn out alright for you. The PE zimmerit was a bigger job than I thought it would be, so I have had my share of panic aswell. Now that I have given it the first coat of paint I can see all scratches and gaps that need some filler, but its too late now.

I still have 12 hours and may need every bit...
I changed direction and decided to go with transportation tracks Confused [%-)]. I have cut apart 8 outer roadwheels to get the hubs, changed the order and scratch built outer hubs for the inner wheel group. Glue's drying so I can file and sand, Now I have to 'narrow' the tracks and drill out the horns.
I could have just looked at the box art and would have known how early a version this was but I bought the kit long ago, before this idea came about.

Well. I've bitten off a lot and now I need to go chew...Black Eye [B)]

Okay, I've shortened the 'narrowed the tracks, drilled out the horns and ABed them rust.
Now I'm off to attend to the remanufactured roadwheels.
I officially joined the ranks of the clinically insane, hopefully I can finish this before the guys in the whitecoats show up...I'll miss you guys. Who's idea was this anyway?Tongue [:P]

A hint to what I'm doing...'Bon Ficha, Tunisia'
