If your OK with diecast there are several 1/25th scale construction machines available

everything in the case is 1/25th. The bottom row are all diecasts as is the swing shovel on the top row. The upper D8 is a modified AMT kit and the crusher is entirely scratch built.  SpecCast produced 4 versions of the Bantam shovel. a dragline, a crane. a cable backhoe and the swing shovel.

Looks very nice !

        Now for you and all the other guys .Why don't you take a gander at LEGOS ? You can build the thing you want ,or as close as you can get THEN use that as your " Go-By " As ( woodcarvers say ) to do your scratch built or partly so model  , then have a ball with the rust , grease and general guck !

       Owned two Northwest -95 Drag-lines  .Controls were Canadian ( backwards ) in style and the cab was on the wrong side too . . But those suckers dug a lot of  the boat canals in Port Everglades in the late sixties . You ought to have to have tried to mend a broken track on them in the swampy soup !

   By the way , for some things , LEGOS are very near 1/24 scale .Just don't build it to fit their  Mini-Figs ! Some stuff is even close to 1/35 !      P.S. I like that rig ! ! .

Had I known Chevettes were available without rear seats, I might have purchased one just to haul stuff around.

At that time, it would have been very useful.

Cool link, SprueOne!  Now that I read that link though, I think that my first Chevette may have been a Scooter, but not the second one. This had the bumper "bumpers", the trim, the black-out grille, and front spoiler underneath...as close to a sports car as the Chevette ever got!

Tamiya did a mid-90s Jeep Grand Cherokee.

Kit of the Jeep Wagoners/full size Cherokees and the 84 and up small Cherokee.  Lindberg had a 1/20 of the grand Cherokee back when.  Maybe the old high boy Jeep wagons and trucks from the 50's

Have built a couple of the AMT D-8 over the years.  Not a bad one for the era it came out in.

Add to my wants list a Chevette "Scooter" with the nice optional grill and trim, and/or a Pontiac T1000. Those were my garage-band days cars!

   I think I would go for more peaceful vehicles .Like say REVELL's original 1/25 - 57 Ford " Country Squire " wagon .And 1/25 versions of their 56 Buick Century  , 56 Mercury Monteclair and 55/56 Continental !

    Shoot , I would be happy to have many of those old models back, AMT's too ! , No matter what the scale !

You are right ! AMT's Dozer was unique for the time . Looked great on a sagging Flatbed trailer too . Especially with the weathering on that lowboy

    Problem is they gave you a decal instead of punching holes in the front engine panel . I put the decal on the unpainted part and drilled out all those puppies !

Does anyone besides Squadron import Meng civilian vehicle kits? 

The AMT Catapiller D-8 bulldozer was first issued in the 70's and has been reissued a couple times over the years. The newer ones don't have the Catapiller trade mark decals with them. They start around $50 on eBay.

I'd love to see a '77 Chevy Monte Carlo, '78 Pontiac LeMans, and late 70s - 80's Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme kits. Oh yeah some cool late 70's, early 80's Ford Thunderbirds too.

That looks like an old Bucyrus Erie "drag link" back hoe.  The old term "steam shovel" comes to mind. AMT, I think, did a nice 1/25th scale Caterpiller bull dozer. I think it was a D-8 with a ripper and a dozer blade. A Manitawok crane would be neat also. You can get a lot of construction equipment in die-cast, but I would rather build my own.

I can't think of a better range of subjects for rust than construction equipment ! 

Give me something like this in a bigger-than-HO-scale and I'll be in heaven!

Been tempted to buy and build as a sort of :stop gap" solution. 

if 1/35 is acceptable, Meng have a couple of them

I may check into obtaining one of these kits though the gun may be way too big to fit on a pickup truck bed

I really wish there were more full kits or conversion kits to create a typical city infrastructure truck such as  water dept, dept. of parks and rec, etc., with those utility beds and tool boxes on the back..............

Same here........................an International 4300 or International Terrastar would make a nice starting point for conversions..............

The trucks are called 'Technicals' because.. they're not.??

Finescale actually had an article about scratching a gun for a somalie technical, which was some huge anti-aircraft gun, that i copied.

You could alternatively buy a Jeep for a tray mounted gun. the italeri 1/24 jeep or toyota kits have a 50 cal.

Hmmm.......I may also do a paper model search for an AA gun...maybe something can be reduced in size as a pattern.

I may buy one of those two kits to use the fifty cal on a Rat Rod...............I bought the MPC Jeep with the recoil less rifle...........a shame the kit has civilian tires..............
