I think the brush truck would be a good one to do. I have seen some great looking trucks that just look interesting enough to build. Unfortunatly ours is not one of those. Glad you liked my site, that is basically stuff that I have done since I joined here, efore that I keep hidden!

I also plan on doing a brush truck of some sort and maybe later on I might build an ambulance but those things are going to have to wait and the models on your site are great and keep up teh good work. Resin is kind of fragile or more so than the regular modeling plastic is so when you are modeling with it you have to be extra careful.

What is your opinion on the cab? I have seen them and one of the Pierces I think was could be done up as our Sutphen. I've just never worked with resin so kinda reluctant to pay what ever it is they cost. Keep us up to date on your build and post pics if you can. Just take your time and it should come out great. I've thought the same about some of my builds but they turn out allright still. Everything but them gloss paint jobs, never get those right, thats why I have liked armor so much nothing but flat.

Thanks for the info. I have been to MTFACO before and thinking about ordering their catalog and I will try emergency model castings. This will be my first body i'm doing but it will take alot of planning to do before i even get started. I don't expect this one to be the best but hopefully it will turn out good.

Ron-I have yet to try it out myself, the cab that drew is talking about is a resin cast one from http://www.10-8hobbies.com there are a couple of sites that you can get them from. Firemodelman would be the one to ask about that, he seems to be pretty good with doing the bodies and such.I'm still learning and planning before I jump into it.

Drew, i don't know if you have seen this site before http://www.mtfaco.com/ but I know someone said you can get chasis from them along with alot of other stuff to. One other site I have is http://www.emergencymodelcastings.com/Index.html. Hope those help you a little.

I checked out 10-8 alot, they do have some great stuff. Have you checked on ebay for those amt kits? There is always some there and you might be able to land one for less than 10-8 or your LHS. Ebay can be a great place to find some stuff. You could even get a better deal by finding one thats allready been built, I've seen them pretty regular and take whatever you need from it like the chasis, tools and such. Those usually go pretty cheap cause no one wants one thats already been built.
You can check out my site to see my models if want just click on the web link in the bottom of the box here. Sadley there's no fire apparatus , yet. Have a couple of scrathbuild projects in the planning stage still though.

Segrave
Posted by Anonymous on Sunday, November 30, 2003 8:37 AM
I got it from 10-8 Hobbies and I was very impressed with it. I do have to scratchbuild the body for it and on their website teh have the old AMT Almerican LaFrance kits and some other stuff that I tought might be good for the chassis. They also have that Lousiville thing that some people have been saying would be good also. Heyt lizard do you think you would be able to send me some pics pf your models . My e-mail is drew0789@aol.com.

Welcome to the forum Drew. I have asked this before and there are a couple of possibilties. You could get one of the dump truck or concrete mixer kits and use those, you'll just have to lose one of the tandems if you are doing an engine. Or you could scratch build one, little tougher than the first option. Where did you get the segrave cab at and did it come with the body or do you have to scratchbuild that also? Look forward to seeing your progress and helping how ever I can.

I got your e-mail but I don't know if it was before or after this message I'll send it again just in case. I can't agree with you guys more about the fires in California. I just goes to show how crowded this country is getting with all of these houses being destroyed. My thought and prayers are with every home owner a firefighter involved.Angel [angel]

it does seem to take awhile sometimes. i found one of my best weapons in scratchbuilding is to think everything out before i even have the model on the table. i've thought out even the smallest details on some of my models months before starting the kit. that seems to work out for me, as i know what i want to do befre i do it.

I have'nt forgot about you Dave, right now the best I am able to do is when I get the settlement from my insurance I'll have a scanner. So if my lawer would only get on them a little harder. The pipe sounds like a good idea. I am sure though that after this fire that there are alot of things that will change in CA to try and keep it from happening again. But then again it is CA so who knows what will happen.Personally around here I don't mind seeing the woods burn. For one it pretty much stays on the ground and gets rid of all the dead fall that otherwise would just pile up and create a much larger fire. Plus fire is good for forrests, most people just don't want to understand that they need it. Up until the last 100 years a wildfire would just burn till winter and somehow there were still very flourishing forrests.

well thats good to know your staying here for awhile.hope your wildfire season is alot better than out west, i hear they may be getting a hold on things?i wonder sometimes why they dont pipeline water from the ocean out to those remote areas for times like these? if they can get oil from alaska through one i dont see why not water, i mean even if its salt water it will still put out a fire?just my thought?Wink [;)]Wink [;)]

Oh yea Dave, to follow up on your question on if any of us were going to CA. I found out today on a brush fire that no one from here is going anywhere, the way the rain has been here for the past month and a half has it getting to a critcal stage here to. Here it is Nov. and today it was around 90 degrees and humidity in the 30's. Pretty good weather for fire and one we had today was getting pretty active and had potential to get up and go. So we might still get to play here, though the fires don't get anything like out west. No crowning here but mt. laurel and kudzu sure put on good show.

No problem Brad, thats what the forum is for. To post a pic , you have to have it histed somewhere else. Then clcik on the insert image button on the message box ( can't use the quick reply ) and insert link between the things that are put in ex: with no spaces in the image box. Check out the general discussion forum and Ronusmc has graciously set up a page to host pics on. Any other qustions just ask.

As far as scratchbuilding the pump, I have not done it and was asking Dave the same thing for our tanker.

hello brad, and welcome to the forums!Smile [:)]just loged on and seen your post here. glad to be drawing a few more like us.from reading your post it seems to me that you have the hardest part down, that is the semi frame you would have to use. as for the cab, if you can find a model of the freightliner, your set, but if not, do like lizardqing said, and go for the resin cabs. FREDS CUSTOM MODELS in san antonio texas, does all emergency resin casting. police fire ems. give him a look,he may just have what you need? he runs ads in scale auto mag, i think he charges a buck for a catalog?i used an ambulance body from him and was very impressed with the casting.hope to hear more from you.Big Smile [:D]Big Smile [:D]

Welcome to the forum Brad. Sounds like you just got the same type truck that we have ordered right now except we talked the commmisioner into 3000 gal super tankers. I have'nt yet built one ,is on my to do list though.Firemodelman is the one that could answer all your questions on scratchbuilding. There are a couple of sites that do resin cabs and such, have seen one that would do for our Engine 1.

Have been reading this post list and I'm glad I found some who likes to build firetrucks. I am on our volunteer department up here in MI, and I would like nothing more then to recreate the truck we just recieved. It is a Freigthliner 1200 gallon taker built by Midwest Fire. I have never really scratch built a fire truck before thoughSad [:(]. I mainly build semi trucks and make a lot of custom parts for those but never a whole rig. I just wonder how you guys make the cabs and chassis the tank wouldn't be to hard at all. Thanks guys?

i know what you mean chris, i had funeral detail once while i was in fort campbell, was on the firing squad, really humbles you, the part that broke me down was seeing the captain hand the widow the flag from the casket. his body was never recoverd ,so there was only a helmet, and a pair of boots in it. sad.
