I now exactly what you mean with the bagpipes. I have fortunatly been to only two funerals, one was a firefighter and one was a police officer. When the pipes play and fade into the distance, nothing can compare.
If I remember correctly from another post , you're also a volunteer? My brother used to do it also when he lived in PA. He used to hate it when he came down though and saw that we ran as many calls in one day as they did in a month.

I lost 4 close brothers on 9/11, went to the funerals there.... words cannot describe the emotions.... once ths bagpipes started playing, i lost it............

My thoughts and my prayers go out to all the families that have to live threw this..... and may God except them with open arms...........

Yea, always hate hearing of a LODD. That makes 79 I believe for the year. Hope the catch the who started the fire. Don't know if you have ever been to a public safety funeral, but there is nothing as honorable and heartbreaking at the same time.

That is pretty creative doing a light bar with plastic spoons, I'll have to remember that. I do have some close ups of the pump and plumbing, I'll be sending those to you. The engine does have a midship front facing pump panel. I think they all should be like that since you can see all the way around the truck instead of being stuck to one side. I'll have to check out that site again. Just can't afford those resin kits right now.

hey chris, great pics i love the gmc. from the looks of the pump, what i can see of it , i dont think it would be that much of a problem to build.you having advantage of seeing it up close is a big plus though.as for the freightliner, i think the dude in texas has something along that line,( as far as the cab goes). the pump body looks alot like the ones i've seen that he makes in resin.if i'm looking at it right does it have the forward facing pump control panel?if thats the case then i know he has those.checking out the light bar on the gmc,its the strobe type right. i once made one of those out of ploastic spoons. i took 2 clear plastic spoons and glued them together, once they were dry i cut them for length, and sanded them so as they were even on all 4 sides, after that i started sanding with finer sand paper until i got most of the scratches out, then i just painted with clear red paint,i left 2 places next to the center speaker cover un painted to give the look of take down lights (thats what the cops call them) it came out pretty nice. just i little tip if you decide to do the gmc., i'll be looking for those pics. thanks a million!!!!!

You must be talking about the engine little moe, the tanker would be a good one to build and actually use weathering on an auto. needless to say it has a few battle scars. Yea I live in dahlonega ,ga about an hour north of atlanta.

Ok I finally got around to getting some pics. Here's a few teasers for you for now. Once have my camera with at Station 1 I'll get some of the rescue and one of the engines there. You would probally like it to, story behind it is that we got it from N.Y. and while in service there was first due for the World Trade Center. I belive it is a 70 something model though I'm not sure. It is one our most reliable and best at slinging water. When I get those I'll get them developed and send them your war. If there is anything you want a close up of let me know.

somehow I overlooked the post. We would like to go to Cali. Our dept has the only ntionaly red carded wildland crew in N. GA that we know of and we are not having much of a brush fire season at all. I think we can get on list with our forresty dept and get sent though. As much as I would love to go , thanks to a guy that was DUI back in may and hit me head on ,don't think my foot can handle that yet particulary since I have to have it fused in Jan. But now if it were get to the point where they need all the help possible , I would deal with my foot being in pain to be able to go and pitch in and help out.

hey just a quick question chris, are you or any of the members of your dept. planning on helping out on the wild fire front out in california? i heard on the news the other night they was needing alot of help out there. makes me glad i live in ohio where those type of fires are really not much of a problem,even though i know they can still happen.

I know exactly what you mean about gateway, I have replaced 3 cd drives and countless other things. Had so many problems with my original one they wound up replaceing it with one twice as good. I'l get those pics developed and send them to you.

that would be cool chris, i would like to see that rescue. i like to do trucks like that, the homemade stuff is really kind of special i think,something about having the only one makes them kind of cool. if you send me a disc, that means i'm going to go have my cd drive fixed on my computer. its a super junk gateway. i've replaced the cd drive twice, wonder if gateway is made by amt/ertl?

well about the only homemade type we would have is our rescue which is an old gas and light service truck and a small chevy utility truck that came from the same place. The rescue is pretty nice and looks kind of cool. Our light and air truck has a f-250 chasis with a box put on the back with a jet ski motor pump. I'll see if I can't get some pics of them all and burn a disc and send it to you. Working on posting some of latest build right now, keep an out in the armor forum a little later.

got a question, do you guys have any "homemade" rigs in your stable? if you do i'd like to have a photo of it.

that will work,i've got all kinds of photo books on fire equipment,but nothing with real good close ups though.plus it will inspire me to build something else!

Yea that sounds like it might work. I think I'll ride over to the station here after while and get some pics and email them to you. Got nothing better to do really so might as well go play around with the trucks.

hi chris, the pump has the basic parts. the pump panel on the a.l.f. is on one chrome piece, i would cut out the majority of the gauges, then make a simple box to put it on,then mount that on the extended front bumper? a little imagination would play a big part as well i do beleive?

I do believe it is before the kodiac models. it is probally mid to late 80's I'm guessing. I'll try to get those pics soon, of coarse now the camera has disapeared, can't even get up pics of the latest build on here right now, just got to find the little ones hidding place and probally hit the jackpot for all sorts of missing things. I've never worked with bare metal foil before so that would be yet another thing new. So does the pump on that kit have all the main parts. The one on the tanker is all exposed with the gauges sitting on a panel above it.

hey chris, would the gmc be a "brigadere" or maybe a "kodiac" model? as for the pump, i could suggest snagging the pump unit from the amt american lafrance pumper, and doing some cutting on it to get the look you wanted? that model is still on ebay,and you can find some that have been built(rather bad) and just use it for pieces? i used this method once before on a mack b-61 cab i bought from model truck and fire apparatus, then i mated the cab onto the american lafrance pumper body, it came out ok, but i would like to re-do it as i have gotten better at my scratch building since i done that model.? hope this gives you some good ideas for your tanker. i'm planning on using the international dump truck to do a tanker with? i'll wait on your pics though to give me some more insight.

the diamond plate was "made" by cutting up some sheet stock i had of diamond plate then i use bare metal foil over top. pretty simple to use.

thanks for the nice review,the trick to the roll up doors is pretty easy, i use evergreen scale models styrene sheet stock,( it's labeled as .040 spacing.) they make it in all kinds of sizing and looks, they make sheets to look like sidewalks, clapboard siding and boxcar siding for model rr, just to name a few. but anyway, i build my main box with the .040 ,and then simply cut pieces from .010 sheet stock to go around the "doors" and then i fill in with squadren puddy. the trick is to get the doors in the right position. so using the .010 stock, i tend to make several pieces until im happy with the outcome, its really easy once you do it a couple of times.well anyway i'm glad you liked it.

I got the pics today. pretty sweet rig you've done there. be nice if our little ford was that nice.how do you get the roll up doors to look like that? Also how would diamond plate be done? Also you got a pretty nice collection going on, no way I would have all those sitting in cabinets like that though, boys might think they are toys and can't have that happening. I'll get that one scanned to when I get a chance to get those others done for you, still working on that.
