Update: i finished scribing and detailing the under side of speeder, finished scribing the top of speeder and started to paint the engine area and airbrake area. Will have photos of it tomorrow when the sun comes up.

I have a motivation to get this baby done now. My lhs just announced a June 13th model contest and that is the date im shooting for to finish. That is if im not rushing the project and not doing my best on the completion.

I still have to plan out the battle damage and weathering for the exterior. I won't have a base made for it june 13th, that will be for a later date and Ill keep my progress on the dio here and in the dio thread...

Just a little update. Did a little work to the canopy section, added treadplate and beefed up the hinges with pieces from the suspension of a tiger tank in 1/72. And also thinking of adding parts to the lower sections of the speeder from the same 1/72 tank model kit. Made the door for the engine access panel.

Here are a few more shots of the mock up...

If you have noticed all ready the power coupling is upside down and is for the other side, didn't notice that until i looked at the photos online. However its just a mock up and hasn't been glued yet.

I finished most of the scribing on the left side of speeder and airbrake section, the only other thing i got done this weekend is I added some more detail in the air brake opening.

Well small update. Got all the panels lines layout ready to scribe, on the airbrake section already scribed that, not that you can see it from this photo thou. Now to just match the other side....

The lines near the front are not an exact match to the studio model as my access panels had to be brought farther down the side to have a little room for depth.

Sounds like me to a t. I had about 2 dozen kits, all pinned and prepped and primed, tried to paint a few and thats when i got frustrated. The prices i paid and the prices i got for them i basically gave them away, now i wish i had not sold them. But you live and learn. Someday Ill give it another shot. I know about the fear factor however...

If you're interested in garage kits than I would suggest registering at the clubhouse forum.

You have to sign up to view the forum.

I've looked at a number of figure forums and the clubhouse is the best.

Be fowarned garage kit's tend to be on the expensive side.

This is what I learned doing the scribing on mine (first time attempting it)

When doing the scribing us the back of the blade preferably one with a missing tip.

Go slow against a metal straight edge, if nessesary tape it in place so it doesn't slip.

Don't press hard, it's better to make several passes to get the depth you want.

Make sure the map out lines go just past each other so you can see where you have to start and stop.

Eric...

I love the garage kit hobby, i had a bunch of female figure kits, all of the amazing figure modeler mags, but found out i was horrible at painting figures, got frustrated and sold all my kits on ebay. Now i regret it as I have understood that any hobby just needs practice and I should have stuck it out till i got better. Yes they are very exspensive but if your good at it very worth it. Im just gonna concentrate on plastic till i get my nerve up (and money) to give resin a try again.

Im gonna try the scribing tonight. Ill post pics of my progress later on in the morning.

I still have my original falcon unfinished in the closet, the first release with lights.

I'd like to get the FM 1/48 X-Wing but may just save up for a CC/Salzo Studio Scale instead. Shock [:O]

Wouldn't mind picking up this studio scale Speeder when kit's start being released and the studio scale Slave One.

Not that I have that kind of money. Sigh [sigh]

Eric...

Wow, I like this studio scale Slave One very nice slave one.

Love fine molds models, My favorite is there falcon but 200+ dollars? Not even if i had that much disposible cash for my hobby would I spend that much on one kit. Ill get the courage up some day to scratch build more realistic sides on an old amt falcon kit. But would like to see the speeder done by them. Im sure it will be highly detailed and very realistic.

thank you TacoBuff, it wasn't my favorite vehicle but the easiest one to work with, i feel for adding a lot of interior junk. My favorite is the falcon, but unless you pay 100.00 for the resin side panels its too toy like. I got my speeder and two other speeders on ebay.  The only problem with ebay is you have to be patient and wait to bid the last 2 mins of the auction so you dont end up paying to much. I didnt pay over 10-12 dollars for each of mine. Doesnt include shipping but i figure they are worth at least that much, if you are careful you can even get them for as low as 5.00 i just passed up one last week that no one bid on and it ended for 5.00 plus 8.00 shipping, but i have 2 others that i have used for various parts that i ruined for this build and figure after all this work i may never build another speeder. Im looking towards detailing a tie fighter now.... Any way yeah ebay to me seems the best bet, you can try your local hobby shop, they reissued the speeder in 2005 or 2006 i believe and produced some current runs of it but if they cant order any then ebay or maybe try a sci fi forum , sometimes people trade on those and even can try craigslist.

Eric,

Thank you again for the kind words and I wouldn't consider mine classier than yours we just have different takes on the same project, infact I like your idea better about displaying yours with the engines out of the speeder. That is a very cool and original idea.

Thank you Eric, It may be taking me longer to finish this baby as i had originally planned, life has gotten in the way of it and I have some issues to take care of at home. Thats one of the reasons nothing got done much last week. However I am trying to keep focused on this project because with this amount of work I want to see this baby completed.
