I haven't attempted scribing anything yet, just finished mapping out all the lines a few minutes ago.

Using the 2 studio models as reference as well as a studio scale scratch build over on RPF I decided to make both sides the same instead of a patch job version since the orange and the grey speeders have a few panels that are different.

I'm also modifying the canopy to earlier designs with it opening on both ends and with a roomier cockpit.

Eric,

that will be awesome, I want to see if for sure, especially the dual opening cockpit!!!! Cool build for sure...

The OT Cutaway book can give you ideas on what to put in there.

I just spent the last hour or so mapping out the panel lines on the port side on mine.

Gave it a clear coat so I don't wear ir off with handling.

Going to be a real adventure trying to scribe those.

Now I have to try and match the starboard side. Sigh [sigh]

Eric...

Have you a thread on your build? Would like to see your scribe work on your kit. I will have to do that to mine and overall that is the part i am not looking forward too, after scribing the lines just to cut out the panels which were very hard to keep straight even using a template as an edge....

I like that,  T-47E like the BF 109 E's, could also nickname it an EMIL.Smile [:)]

Here is the photo that inspired me to do the access panel in that area, I didn't want it to go all the way down below the gun or what ever it is called, but it may have made more sense. Before I complete the kit I may just add a cover to each one because the more i look at it as a mechanic it would be pretty hard to take the cover off once all is in place. I do like the red color they have inside the panel thou. Seems really odd but it contrasts really good with the grey colors. But we will see, I just hope its not so far fetched that it doesn't make any sense after Im all done with it. I started to detail the cockpit then after seeing that I couldn't stop the scracthbuilding bug...and the harpoon gun thats a whole other story , it needs a lot added to it and the cable attached to the back of the speeder. That will give it a lot of realism.

Opening up more panels, I just wanted to scribe the other panel lines, but I have never scribed before and I can not get them square, so ill have to open them up and keep sanding and filing till there square.

and im thinking since im not building it exactly like a t-47 Ill call it a T-48!!! As a rebuilt of the T-47...

Cut another access panel on the front side of the speeder and have to scribe the lines for the other access panels because I dont think Im gonna open them all up, I will post them later.

Grey.

Your best reference is when Luke climbs in at Echo Base and once he crashs and crawls out.

Outside crash site has better light but is also half buried under the snow.

In the hanger they look really dirty.

my son has some games of star wars but nothing with the speeder in it. My biggest thing is not having it painted for hoth, from the movie stills it looks like they are almost white washed like the german tanks for winter camo. Or is it just a light grey?

Cool cause a sandy rocky base is easier to make than snow anyway.

Eric and Smeagol the vile, thank you so much for your replies, I never thought about it till this model. How it was at rest but that makes sense. I would have thought the designers would have added some kind of landing gear and thought about scracth building some but that would be a total reengineering feet especially since there isnt much room in the body of the speeder. I had to make the access panel i put in it real shallow so it didnt hit the bottom of the speeder, its resting right on it now. Just like the battle droid im working on in another thread,  I want to add it to just a little base dio maybe with snow or something because after all the detail work it just doesnt seem right sticking it on the stand that comes in the kit, seems it would be a little strange. Well i need to get busy now to get some more photos to update this thread....

Just checked my ILM pix and the film.

They sit flush on the ground.

From the looks of it in the scene where Lukes speeder lifts off the cockpit floor sit's on the ground as well.

My guess would it sits on the wings, as was said, but it hovers when it's parked, as in, when its prepped for any sort of mission, pilot or not.  Maybe it always hovers, I dont think they say.

I have a question for anyone out there, got to thinking how i am gonna display this speeder, and not sure how the speeder sits when parked. I went thru the empire strikes back vid and it isn't clear on what it sits on. No real landing gear. I don't want to just post it on the kit mounting stand. Maybe even put it in a small diorama base or something like that after all the detail going into it. Any help would be appreciated.

I think it just sit's on the wing tips but I will look through some of my reference to see it I spot anything when I get off work.

If the ship bounces when the crew climbs on board than it's using repulsers like Lukes speeder.

For those that havent built this model before if you plan to just have it sit on a shelf without a stand it needs to be weighed down in back or it will fall forward.

I love when we do this kind of thing, scratch build, super detail, add pe, add resin parts, all to spots that will NEVER be seen when its complete.  Great work though

Thanx Boba...Love sci-fi..A Star Wars FREAK. But I leave the modeling of to you pros! I have have built three of the amt kits (jedi starfightr, speeder bike, and the xwing), because they were inexpensive....terrible kits but alot of fun. Maybe i'll post some pics of the X-wing soon.

Great scratch building!!!!!. What is up with the detail in those amt kits? I did the X-wing and had to scratch the cockpit.... as I'm sure you know the cockpit was featurless and was just wrong...I had to level the controls with the canopy line...add a seat and targeting comp. ect ect..I even had to scratch all detail on the pilot, he was wearing the full face flight helmet, I always associated it with the Y-wing...is this correct? So I scraped off the helmet and made the more conventional one...here is a pic..I dont have much to offer the Sci-fi genre, so i'm a little excited to post it....hope you dont mindBig Smile [:D]

Yours make mine look very weak...Good luck at the show!!!

Its not a great shot but this is all that will be seen after the rest is put in place, i really didnt take that in to consideration before i cut the panel open but i think it will be ok once everything is painted and in place.

Put a few hours in on it tonight, built the detail in the access panel, may add a few more wires and maybe even some braided line, but heres a few pics...

Im not sure if ill match it on the other side, i may just scribe the panel lines to show where the panel is and im thinking about making another access panel on the front of the speeder but that will depend on how this panel comes out....
