oh trust me..i know the smell of tamiya lacquer and their acrylics don't smell anything close to lacquer.
lacquer over powers alcohol any day of the week. my point is if it was really lacquer based their regular thinner wouldn't do a thing.

stymye Tamiya is an acrylic lacquer(or Lacquer acrylic if such a thing exists) , it makes no sense to thin it with alcohol whoever came up with that idea has no idea why im sure , , .

I tried using Lacquer thinner but I'm still overweight.
stymye Tamiya is an acrylic lacquer(or Lacquer acrylic if such a thing exists) , it makes no sense to thin it with alcohol<snip>.. to be honest Tamiya is barely an acrylic , but it does contain some acrylic binder so I guess they feel that is enough to call it acrylic paint...lol

At one time (in the early 80's), Tamiya did actually list the constituents of the paint:Water Soluble Acrylic Resin - 40.3%Pigment - 14.1%Alcohol - 19.9%Water - 25.7%I'm sure the formulation has changed since then, but it wouldn't be too different. It is most definitely an acrylic, but in the end, it doesn't really matter what you call it as long as it works. I have thinned Tamiya acrylics with water, IPA, ethyl (denatured) alcohol, Tamiya X-20A thinner, Tamiya Lacquer thinner, Mr Color thinner. All give usable results, each has its pros and cons. What it means is that Tamiya's acrylics are remarkably flexible in what thinner you can use (and no, the type of thinner does not determine whether a paint is acrylic or not) and allows you to pick and choose depending on the application and the effect you want to achieve.
GreenThumb stymye: Tamiya is an acrylic lacquer(or Lacquer acrylic if such a thing exists) , it makes no sense to thin it with alcohol Yes these look horrible from thinning Tamiya acrylics with 70% ethyl alcohol.
