Lawdog, yes, few other dogs can say they peed in 48 states and Canada. He was able to smell a lot of peemail.

According to " Dog Rule's "  that mean's he now OWN'S all 48 State's .... AND Canada !!!

Im sorry for your loss. I havent been online for about 12 day's, so I just found your post.

I cry every time I have to say good-by to my little friend's. ( You would think I would have had enough sence to not get anymore ... but then I alway's find a new friend..... abandoned in a parking lot ... or just wandering around in the middle of nowhere. )

When you do get around to getting a new friend, I found it help's to tell the "New Hire" all the storie's about the "Previopus Employee".

That way, you get to re-visit fond memories, ... and the "new Hire" get's an idea of what's acceptable behavior.... ( or what he will probably be able to "get away with" ! )

Dont worry about the thumbprint, paint it Rust , and call it "Battle Damage"

Steve,

I’m so sorry to hear of your loss. From the pictures, you can see what an outstanding dog and companion he was just by looking at his face. It’s very difficult losing a pet as they love you unconditionally.

When I met my wife she had two cats. Angel was this white fluffy social butterfly. But then this monster walked by me. I asked her what the $%%& is that. She replied that's Mouse. I said Mouse his name should be House. He was part Maine Coon. Weighed 28lbs and not really fat. When she moved with me I saw his charts he was 19lbs at 8 months old. He died of cancer at 16. He weighed 13lbs when he died and was rail thin. Saw him slide a car battery out of the way one day. But in all the cats we've had since then. He is still my favorite

The Birman and Cheetoh are pretty cats. The Maine Coon looks about the size of a Lynx, they are huge.

I had to look that bread up. Beautiful cat, kinda a long haired Siamese.Yes

Steve, actually it‘s not really a long hair breed cat. So yeah, I get what you meant. Their fur is similar to rabbit fur... soft, medium length, and easy to care for. Unlike say a Persian or a Himalayan cat where they have a double coat and prone to matting if not groomed. My first cat was a Persian and she was a sweet loving cat. I’ve had my fair share of her having mats and several times she literally had to be shaved to remove them. Not fun.

Ragdoll wasn’t the only breed we were looking at. Other breeds we‘ve considered:

Birman (no breeders in NYS)

Siberian

Norwegian Forest Cat

Maine Coon - these are large cats with females weighing 12 lbs and male weighing upwards to 18-20 lbs as adults.

Toyger & Cheetoh... both are hybrid cats that look like their wild counterparts only in domestic size. Both breeds command a premium price upwards to $5000. That was a quick hard nope once I found out how much they’re going for as kittens. LOL!

We may have another ragdoll kitten coming depending on the breeder who notified us another family is coming to pick one of her two female ragdoll kittens available. The breeder thinks the family is going to choose the blue point over the chocolate lynx mitted ragdoll we‘re hoping to acquire. The chocolate lynx mitted kitten will grow up to be just like the mom.

Here is to hoping!

Johnny I'm so sorry. That's got to be a shock. When they get old you can prepare somewhat.

Steve my sincere sorrow for you and your family. I just had to put one of my 3 year old cats down yesterday. He had a reaction to a medicine that the vet prescribed. Total kidney failure. I'm in a daze right now because I didn't think he was the one to go next. I have 2 18 year olds that are pretty healthy. Again so sorry

Thank you GM, Wayne and Lawdog.

Wayne, wow that's got to be tough. Now I think back at the good memories and things are getting much brighter. I was thinking the other day, if I was there, I would still be a wreck. I was spared the pain of taking him in. He was the closest I'd ever been to a dog, probably because we were inseperable.

Lawdog, yes, few other dogs can say they peed in 48 states and Canada. He was able to smell a lot of peemail.

I’m sorry Steve. I’m with you. I watched my 19 year old cat die in front of me last week. Worst thing I’ve ever witnessed. Sounds like Dallas has a great life.

Sorry to hear. we have had to put down 5 dogs all 12 or more, all rescues or given to us by friends deploying overseas. once i was not there due to work and once my frau was not there, again due to work. one died in my arms the morning we were going to take him in and the others let us know they understood what was happening and why in their own doggie way. most of the time we had two dogs so there was always one present. the last time we waitied 6 months before going to the rescue place and getting a catahoula hound.

Please don't regret that. It counts as one of lifes crappier experiences. He was in good hands

Three years ago I had to let go of a 14 and a 15 years old pair of female labs, within a two week time frame. We were going to wait until our daughter came home from school, but it just didn't seem right.

Edwin, my only advice, in addition to my sincere sorrow for her condition, is to have a heart-to-heart with the vet. If it can save the life, it's a responsibility. But if you are prolonging the inevitable, do get some advice, and do consider your own future well-being. She would want that more than anything.

Thank you again guys, it's getting easer.

Edwin, I'm so sorry for what you're going through. This time in a pets life is the hardest for us. I had to weigh his quality of life vs my need for his companionship. My only regret is I wasn't there for him at the last but my wife was, he had comfort.

This thread just tears me up and held off responding till now.

Firstly, Modelcrazy, sincere condolences! I know what you are going through. I was 15 when my first dog passed away. That was the saddest time for the whole family.

Just last year, my dog, or more appropriately my baby girl who’s 18 this year, got diagnosed with cancer. I was heartbroken when I got the news. Yes, she’s not young, but to me she’ll always be my baby girl.

I do what I can to get her medication, supplements and treatment. All in, it’s costing me close to 8 thousand dollars a month. She is not covered under insurance. But I feel you just can’t put a price to saving your family, know what I mean? I’m bracing myself for the day when I’ll have to say goodbye to her. I choose to believe in the Rainbow Bridge, where we’ll reunite with our beloved pets.

Hang in there! You are not alone in this.

My condolences on losing a member of your family. You gave him the best life he could’ve had by rescuing him from that pound.

Hmmmm;

Been There , Done that ! The hardest thing I ever had to do . New petson to take her place , But I still think of her .Her was a miniature Black and Tan Daschund ( weiner-dog ),Her name was Lily . New friend sensed something and gently fit himself into my life .His name, Deuce - breed Chihuahua . Brown and Tan . Doesn't seem to mind when I call him Lily by mistake .

All they ask for is love and trust coupled with humanity and love returned . Always missed .My heart goes out to You and the Missus .  T.B.

Hi Steve,

I know what you are going through.

I lost my lab (Barneyjo, who's in my avitar) and Father both over Christmas 2013, and I was 1300 miles away.

Then we lost my wifes dog unexpectantly this Christmas.

All you do is cherish the memories he gave you and have a good cry.

You'll be bound to be blessed with another building buddy again.

Sorry to hear about Dallas. We all know that it was hard on you not being there but you did the right thing. Your wife must be really strong and must really love you to be able to handle on the stuff thrown at her this last year.

My vet has a copy Rainbow Bridge posted in her Rainbow Bridge room at her practice.

I'm glad you are recovering well from the surgery.

As far as another dog, well you always face the future on that, but that's what we do. On Lab #'s 4 and 5 currently.

I only wish I was half the person my dogs think I am.
