Good choice there Toshi, looking forward to seeing her come together.
Btw: The Navy aviation musuem in Pensicola Florida has a cut-away PBY where you can look inside at all the crew stations, pretty neat thing to see.

Another update. This is the cockpit as you can see. In the next step I'll be working on the waist compartment assembly.
Looking good
Nick.
I found some from print scale decals of 1 from Trinidad that sunk a u-boat in all white and other options of PBY-5A black cat squadrons.

Toshi lawdog114 Very cool. I'm looking forward to this one. 41 builds, wow, you running out of room yet? LOL! My sister in-law got me a stand to display my models. I've donated some of my models to the local VFW. They actually have a display for my builds. Toshi

They all had some cool stories to tell. My next donation will be the Bulldog and the Abrams tanks. I think the Vietnam and Iraqi vets would love to see those builds.
Looking great Toshi, I will be following as always.

Nice work on the cockpit Toshi, I've got a 1/72nd Academy kit and you're making me want to pull her out and start on her!
The Walker Bulldog and Abrams sound cool, looking forward to you building a few more tanks.

Eagle90Toshi, I have this kit also, and when I saw your post, I too got excited! Super work so far and I look forward to the progress reports! Thanks for sharing the journey! Eagle90
Here is the waist center assembly.
As you can see, the two halves of the fueselage has been cemented together. I knew that it would take awhile to get this job done. With a little patience and a lot of finesse, it all turned out well.
There are only two places that needed some putty work, not bad for a 20+ year old kit at all. When I'm done with sanding and cleaning up of the putty, I'll go back and do some last minute sanding.
I will be priming the fueselage with Tamiya Grey Lacquer Surface Primer. At that point I can see if there's any thing that needs to be sanded or needs more putty work.
I need to paint this in sections as the wing span is too big even unattached. I hope the wearher will be nice so I can do everything outdoors. Until then please view the on going project below. Thank you forum members for your support.

Toshi, you did a really fine job on that interior. It looks very used! You know I almost envy you for getting to build all these neat models, many of which I have in my stash. The RM PBY Catalina is one of my favorites; I have two of them in my stash and I hope to build at least one before I am finished building!

Eagle90Awesome work on the interior! An inspiration to say the least. Fuselage looks great. Not too much seam work. That's good to know! LOL! Super work! Glad you're posting this. Eagle90
At this juncture on this overcast and cold Saturday afternoon I did some prepping on the PBY-5. Nothing but sanding. I did this as Mrs. Toshi and I had a date night. The first place we went to on our date was grocery shopping LOL then to hobby lobby for some much needed paints. She also got me a Revell Pro-Modeler Messerschmitt Me 410B-6/R-2. This will be my first ever pro-modeler. We then proceeded to Chilis for a wonderful dinner experience. Off to Walmart to buy Mrs. Toshi a Cosmetic case. Final stop? Steak & Shake for some old fashion milk shakes. I'm a chocolate malt guy. Mrs. Toshi is a heath shake girl.
Once home, I primed the Catalina with Tamiya Gray Lacquer Primer. I gave it a first coat, then I took a 1200 grit sand paper and very carefully as well as lightly sanded the entire PBY-5 smooth. Then I resprayed the Catalina once again for the evening. I can not paint the base coat as I have no intermediate blue in my inventory. So off to eBay I went and purchased the intermediste blue. Until I recieve my intermediate blue, I'll work on either the pro-modeler Me 410B-6/R2 or the Kitty Hawk OV-10D Bronco. I'll let Mrs. Toshi choose which one. LOL!
So for now, here is the current update for this Saturday. Thank you my fellow forum members for your support.
Here is the initial stage 1 of priming. After the initial primer shoot, I sanded the primer very lightly with 1200 sandpaper to get a smooth finish. I then rescribed all of the panel lines on the PBY.

Bell 47 G-2 Helicopter landed on the wing of a PBY in Canada.
Just thought you guys might get a laugh.
Great Build you are doing.
You have never been lost until you've been lost at Mach 3!

I can't believe how big the wing is! Total approximate length is 25 inches. WOW! I will look for seams on the wing. Once everything looks good, I will prep the wing to shoot Tamiya Grey Primer. I've also (For the second time I've ever done this) pre-shaded the panel lines, I'm crossing my fingers in that if I can make this happen. Like my last build of which was the B-24 Liberator, I'm going to have to paint the PBY in sections.
One issue I have is that I could not find the correct blue paint to spray the Catalina with. I just ordered via eBay, some Vallejo Air Intermediate Blue. I'll keep assembling this build until the Intermediate Blue arrives.
Thank you all for visiting my PBY-5 Catalina build.
Here is a dry fit.
Re the helicopter on the wing. The floats would distribute the weight easily. How's that for a diorama idea!
