Th green does look wrong on the screen. I have also found that clearcoat for decals tend to alter the green and make it a bit darker.

Here you can see how the clear acrylic changes the look of the green.

Definitely looks like green now Theuns. You're racing ahead with this one. Great consistent demarcation of the two upper surface colours BTW.

That's starting to really look the part Theuns, nice work. You're getting it done quickly too.

I've been painting the head and cape of my figure. Another photo soon.

Here is my Italeri 1/48 MB 326k (Atlas Impala Mk2,licence built in south africa)

It is a rather basic kit but buiulds ok OK. The colours are of the South African AF as the Brazilian AF bought ex SAAF planes.

Humbrol Dark earth/Dark green over light admiralty grey.Mid sheen alclad clearcoat to seal it all in.

The decals worked very well indeed.

That's a lovely piece of work Theuns. Congrats on a really cleanly executed camo scheme. It looks much better than it ever did on that shelf. That makes three models pulled from the shelf and completed in this GB so far. Are you going to work on the Ant soon ?

My warrior is getting close too, should be done this week.

Cheers

Hi Tony, thanx.

Yes the Ant 5 is on the bench now, it is a really horrible little kit but I will beat it into submition!

After that , if I have time I will try get the 1/144 Dragon uh60 off the 'SoD" aswell....then I have cleared that backlog ;-)

I have learned with these builds not to expect to much and not to got mad with the build, just get the darn things done lol.

Yeah I agree with the approach Theuns. I hope you get onto that one too.

I decided to start another figure, so I pulled out a 54mm NSW Lancer. I bought it already completed on ebay, in order to redo it, because I don't think there's a kit. However it's too toy soldierish, so I've just chucked it in the spares box. After 13+ years on the shelf, it's not gonna make it. This is how he was when I bought him.

The next one then is one of the figures from an Academy 1/35 set of French Foreign Legion. I had bought this et to go with the Airfix 54mm 1907 French Foreign Legionnaire that I had previously built.

The one I had started is the guy from Djibouti in the 1980s.

Whilst most of the figure is well formed, the arms are way to scrawny and the hands very simplified. They need replacement. Unfortunately, I had to amputate. I'vedrilled out holes to pin in new arms, but the spares box hasn't helped, all the arms I have have long sleeves. I gues it's gonna come down to a visit to the hobby shop, or I'm going to have to find a way to use these ones, which I temporarily pinned in place, just in case.

Cheers

Tony

From the shelf:

The kit:

I don't really like the way they painted the faces:

The figure I'm doing, Djibouti 1980s:

The amputation:

Epaulettes and upper arms mounted to the figure:

Rear view:

Arms drilled out:

Kit arms temporarily pinned in. You can see why I want to replace them. He's primed with 'eyeball' white.

Hi Folks,

Here is my completed Pegaso 54mm Briton Warrior, 1st Century AD. Sometime over the last few days, I've lost a dagger that should hang from his belt. Hopefully it will turn up and I can add it, or I'll scratchbuild one if it doesn't.

That makes 4 models completed from the global Shelf of Doom !

Thanks Theuns. I thought I might as well go on and expunge :) all of the small scale figures from my Shelf of Doom.

Thisis the latest progress on the French Foreign Legionnaire.

You'll notice I had to remove one coat of paint from the jacket and shorts, and shading of the skin tones is done. I think I might do another layer of highlights though, it's blended in a bit too much for my liking. The eyes need work too. I find they're a bit easier in larger scales.

And here is the final small scale figure, as it's languished for the last decade or so.

Bit more done on the French Foreign Legionnaire. I still haven't found some arms that I can use, but the rest of the painting is coming along ok.

I used some arms from a Dragon US Marines set.  THey needed quite a bit of modification before they were suitable, but at least they're on. Now to finalise the figure painting as I work on the base.

For the groundwork, I felt that this guy was really a parade ground pose, so I googled up Djibouti, and found a photo of some soldiers on a parade ground. It's sandy, so I'll just do a sinple base that shows that.

Made a start on the next figure kit on my Shelf of Doom. It's the Airfix 54mm French Line Infantryman 1815.

I've just started on the base, and cleaning up the kit parts.

I want to add one to the list.   I've had this Monogram F-8 laying around  for 5-6 years and can't seem to get the nerve to finish it.  It's really all minor assembly left.

I do need to extend the main LG so the back end gets a little more off the ground.

John

On the Bench: 1/72 Ki-67, 1/48 T-38

1/144 AC-130, 1/72 AV-8A Harrier

Progress update on the Airfix French Line Infantryman. These little kits are great, and there's lots of conversion possibilities.

I've started the painting process.

There doesn't seem to be much interest in this GB, but I'll keept going with it anyway. Hopefully there'll be a couple more joinees soon.

I've got two more figure kits on my Shelf of Doom, so given that I've committed to myself to build them all, I'll post their starting position now. Both have been on the shelf for morethan 13 years, I can't remember exactly how long, but I haven't touched them since I moved into my current house in 2003.

First up is this one, as you can see, I painted the face and joined the main body parts before I parked it. I once read that when painting figures, you should paint the face first, because if you like it, it'll motivate you to finish the figure. I must say I still like it, but it didn't help this time.

This is the other one. As his uniform is the reversible winter uniform, I thought I might try and paint the winter side, rather than the camo side, for something different. Once again, I like his face, should've finished it off back then.

Some more progress on the 1812 French Infantryman. The base is done, and the figure itself is getting closer to completion.
