Thanks Tony, and yes I defiantly will be adding whitecaps, foam and a bow wave.
I am using Phthalo blue and green mixed with some grey and titanium white. I’ll mix the colors until it looks about right. I’ll then go over that, probably tonight, with a thinned slightly lighter blue. Once that is dry I’ll go over the whole thing with one coat of acrylic varnish to mix the two colors. I will also spray a teal green onto the wake and some of areas of the water. The cotton and multiple coats of acrylic varnish will be added after the build is set in place.

Tony, nice work on the infantryman.

Started back on the Bearcat.  It was originally supposed to have been finished as part of the Weekend GB, but didn't make it in time. The color scheme is Gloss Sea Blue with yellow wings.  Not a fan of the quality of the paint job, but it's good enough to go on the shelf when it's done.

Here's a pic of my work area.  One of my New Year's resolutions was to clean it up.  In the pic are seven candidates for this build.  Next up will be the Hobby Boss 1/72 F-5E in Patrouille Suisse markings.

MC,  I think your water will be super. I use titanium white too, but I'll learn from yours.

Buddy, I love that scheme, looking forward to seeing it with markings.

Cheers

MC, I always enjoy your ship builds and look forward to watching this one come together.

Tony, I started the decals last night.  The markings are from Starfighter Decals, and depict an aircraft stationed at NAF Inyokern, China Lake, CA in 1952.  The Bearcat I'm building was used in developing the HVAR after the war.  The decals are thin and respond well to Microsol and Microset.  You better be sure they're where you want them when you put them on the model because they grab quickly and there's no sliding them around to adjust them. If you're careful, you can pick them up with tweezers and move them that way.  I had to stop handling the model because even after 13 hours of drying time, the blue was still a little tacky.  When I got up this morning, it was still tacky so I may have to wait a day or two for the paint to dry.

Thanks guys,
Here is an update to the base. After the initial color dried I painted a thinned lighter blue. When that was dry I added a coat of acrylic varnish which mixed the colors and protect them when dry.

When that was dry I sprayed teal to areas of churn and then drybrushed the wave tops. I will leave the base for now and continue with the build next.

After I set the hull in the base, I’ll add acrylic gel and cotton to create the bow wave, whitecaps and wake.

Mongoose, nice work on the BMF. I made one attempt with bare metal finish and was less than successful. I think my mistake was to attempt it on a 1/72 P-51 (yes, it resides on my 'shelf of doom' now) The Mustang was very tiny in my ham sized hands.

My attempt to get back in the sadle has had little success. Life caught up with me again as I learned late last week of the passing of an Aunt I cared for deeply. This has been followed by a dose of the flu. I am hopeful of being better by the weekend or perhaps out of my misery...

Only joking on that last part!

Tony since there is some time left, put me down for a 1/32 Revell Spitfire Mk2 that has been boxed last year after givving me to much fit issues and a 1/48 Dragon Fokker D-7...much the same reason.

Maybe this GB will force me to complete them aswell :-)

Buddy, I've used Starfighter decals on a couple of builds for the Pearl Harbour GBs over the years. I've liked them. That should be a killer scheme on that F8F. I am partial to those early post war naval schemes, nah, early post war anything. Your water is looking great MC. I usually seal mine with Future. Jimbot, I hope that things improve for you soon. Welcome aboard Panzerjager and welcome back Theuns. The roster is updated. I built the Fokker DVII kit as Goering's all white machine a few years back. Have a good weekend everybody. Cheers Tony

Jimbot, hang in there pal.  We're here if you need us.

Theuns, looking forward to your build.

Finished the decals tonight.  Not much to them.  All that's left to paint is the canopy, prop, and gear doors.

Hi Tony,

I have been doggedly ploughing through all my builds and smugly thought I had no need for the SoD GB.  But as my son is starting his last year of high school and I have inherited a part done F-22 Raptor. So here I am, if you'll have me...

This is the kit after it was washed to get rid of a few years of dust

Lewbud, great colour scheme - the gloss colours (especially white and yellow) can be such a pain.

MC, as ever enjoying the treatment of a sea base. How would a treatment like this work with a waterline model? Or do I just go for a calm sea with minimal wake?

Mongoose, never had much success with bare metal, especially the foil, so I am impressed with the result.

68, looking forward to seeing the Phantom phinished

Tony, good to watch the figure work, lots of techniques there to borrow.

Enjoying the rest of the builds and those still to come.

Buddy - I love the look of that Bearcat. One day I'll do one of my projects on this type, and build a few with different schemes. This one is definitely included.

Lostagain - it's great to have you on board. I've updated the roster and look forward to seeing your F-22 get done. I've assumed it's 1.72, let me know if I'm incorrect please.

Panzerjager - that's a good looking project. I don't know much about the M-26, so I'm really going to enjoy getting to know it through your project.

I'm overdue for an update myself. I've been working on the Airfix 1/32 WW2 British Infantryman, from the multipose set. He'll be finished as a Coldstream Guard. I'm going to try and finish it this week as I have another bout of travel next week.

Cheers

Tony

I had the opportunity to work on the Johnston this weekend. I added some cotton to the base which will be covered with several coats on acrylic varnish and look like disturbances under the surface.
The ship has a few fiddly parts to install (PE 20’s, searchlights Etc.) before painting. Most of what you see has been dry fit for the picture.
Well back to it.

The thing with the Spitfire kit was that all went OK till I joined the fuse halves and glue on the wing. The fit was really bad and there was allot of filling and sanding to be done...this broke my "wanting to build it"

The cockpit is nice, I added some detail.

I now need to blend in the windshield to the fuselage, the fit is poor, but the rear section behind the seat is such a poor fit that the hood will have to be in the opne position to hid it :-(

MC,

great to see another of your builds. Watch and learn. The ship and setting are very dynamic.

PJ,

Like the look of the Pershing. Is it a dragon kit?

Theuns,

Cockpit looks great. Hope it compensates for having to wrestle the rest of the build together.

The F22 is coming together. Tail is all together now. Took a lot of shims around the base of the vertical tails. Had to put a bit of filler into the leading edge (on the wing too). Not great fit on this kit, not sure if it a tamiya or one of their reboxings.

Next is cleaning up landing gear and doors, rebuilding the bang seat and then on to painting.

Nice to see the progress everyone. That F-22 looks to be a lot of work. The ship and the water base will look stunning I think. That's a really neat look cockpit Theuns, it's come up so well.
Cheers

I thought I lost my PE set for the Johnston. When I put the kit aside I carefully place the PE set somewhere but couldn’t remember where. I looked most of the evening and couldn't find it. Like most folks I put box bottom inside the upside down box top. It occurred to me that I may have placed the set between the boxes and bingo there it was.

So now I need to find where I stopped and continue on. Now that I have a 3 day weekend coming up I hopefully I'll get some good bench time.

Really glad you found it MC, that would have killed the project. Don't you hate blowing a whole evening searching for something you know is there somewhere !

I hope you can squeeze in a little spraying time Theuns.

I finished my little Airfix British Infantryman. I hope you like....

TWO DOWN AND TWO TO GO!

My Monogram and HobbyBoss -47s are done!

Here's a photo of the Razorback:

Here's one of the HobbyBoss Easy Assembly:

If you'd like to see more, you can see the Razorback in this link: Monogram 1/48 P-47D Razorback

If you'd like to see more, you can see the HobbyBoss kit here: 1/48 HobbyBoss Easy Assembly P-47D

And just to show that I'm making progress on my other two Thunderbolts WIFs from the Shelf of Doom stack, check these out:

I had some problems with the Miss M nose art on the port, but I was able to fix it (as best I could) with some paint.

Lastly, Miss M and her stripes:

Here's Lady D's nose art:

Now that two are done, I can concentrate on the WIFs in NMF.

Thanks for looking!

Cheers,

I'm done! Here's the finished product in BMF...Learning BMF and to thin the testors paints for brushing made a big improvement!I uswd matte aluminum BMF and burnished it with a popsicle stick. The surface wasn't in great shape after stripping the paint. I sanded with 1000 grit and cleaned out the old paint from panel lines. Almost everything came through the BMF like it should...including the rough surface in places. I had the hardest time getting a good line on the leading edge of the wings. I started with large sections like the wing and tail. Once I got used to the method I started doing some smaller pieces so there was some contrast between sections. I then buffed the whole model with a good car wax. Then I cleaned it all off when I did the decals. My purpose was to redo this and learn to use BMF so I deam this a success. Below is the before pic.

This was my 1st model in 20 yrs

In the pattern: Scale Shipyard's 1/48 Balao Class Sub! leaning out the list...NOT! Ha, added to it again - Viper MkVii, 1/32 THUD & F-15J plus a weekend madness build!

I rather used humbrol 163 dark green instead of the normal humbrol 30 wich is way to "blue"

I sprayed the green and brown very thin and uneven to simulate the blotchy way it would fade, I am rather pleased with the results sofar.

I go away for a week and look what you guys do ! O - your Thunderbolts look fantastic, really well done, That will be a very fine collection once you complete them all. I really like the variations in your finish, very effective. Mongoose, your P-51 looks so much better. Nice work with the BMF, it can be quite tricky to get right, but you've done a great job. Theuns - your Spitfire is looking very good, I like the variations in this finish too, and the green looks much better. Your pre shading is tidier than mine. Cheers Tony

Oortiz, nice job on the 47s!  Looking forward to seeing the others come together.

Theuns, always enjoy your builds.  The Spit is coming together nicely!

Good job on the Mustang Mongoose.

Haven't been much in the mood for building, but I did finally get the prop and canopy on.  All that's left to do is paint the gear doors and attach them and then she'll be ready to go to Buddy's Used Aircraft Lot and Museum.

Greetings all,

The WIP builds I've seen so far all look great, as do the subjects that actually managed to get finished! Bow Down

Here are some WIP pics of the stalled Revell 1997 Ford Expedition (UD EMS Sprint car)...

The interior is almost complete with the addition of TufBox & flat head axe mounted in cargo area, seats installed and the light controls, MDT and cellphone mount:

Here's some of the gear (rescue bullet, rope bag, short boards, fire helmet, gear bag and spine board) that will be in the vehicle:

The Vector lightbar w/arrowstik and A-pillar spotlight:

Hope you like the pics, constructive comments welcome.... 2 cents

Thanks Tony.  I dumped the gear doors in the purple lake to strip off my last attempt at yellow.  The problem I had the first time was I put too heavy a coat on of the gloss yellow, and it pulled away from the edges, showing the blue plastic underneath the Tamiya white primer.  I shot a coat of Testor's flat yellow from the square bottle in the hope that it will provide enough tooth for the gloss yellow to keep it from pulling away from the edges again.  Yes, the decals are Starfighter Decals.  They're out of print, but they can be found fairly easily.
