I'm sorry I don't have one to show. Many years ago I had the Revell 1/32 kit, hand painted blotches and all. In the early eighties I owned a little BMW 1602 with vanity plates "FW 190" but nobody knew what that meant. And I had the Airfix 1/24 in the stash for awhile and gave it away twenty five years ago.

So this is new ground for me.

I ordered the decals today from a Turkish outfit called "Turquoise Decals" that I found online. Looks like they make more modern stuff too like F-4s.

I'm excited!

Some sweet looking 190's there guys. nomad68 nice to read a thumbs up on that Academy kit, i have the same one in the stash with a set of markings for Rudels aircraft. And yours look awsome.

My only 190 was Italeris A-8 Red 19 several years ago, but like most of my kits it didn't survive my split from the ex and i don't have any pics. I am just glad Hasa brough out the same aircraft, but this time with more accurate markings.

Richie -- memory must have stirred, it prompted me to go through my decal collection (no mean feat, after more than twenty years collecting I could get a hernia lifting it...), and among all the Phantom and Crusader sheets, the Mustangs and Corsairs -- yes! One lonely Fw 190 sheet in 1:72, and it features an A-5. Superscale 72-599 features Herman Graff's bird from October 1942, when he was with IV/JG 3. It's a 74/75 upper surface scheme (I'm assuming 76 lower, the notoriously incomplete Superscale instructions don't specify) with a yellow cowl and rudder, and red tulip petals. I've seen this scheme reproduced elsewhere, I think Hasegawa released it, and this is how I remember it. I'm assuming their research is reasonably accurate, though one can never tell. I guess researching the original online would offer a handle on that.

So, if I go with the Academy A-5, I do have some decals in hand to replace their sheet.

Cheers, Mike/TB379

Mike Where you you look online to check on how accurate decals are. I have a set of superscale decals which includes Rudels Ju-87B-2, but i am very dubious about them. I have looked through endless books and checked site useing Rudel as my search basis but haven't been able to find any sites that help.

Bish -- it's always tricky, but the info on which the companies based their products must be out there somewhere, and therefore checkable. The fact that the orthochronic film destorts some colours away from what we would expect in B&W is a chief concern, and probably the only major spur that would coax me to doublecheck the accuracy of a product, especially an older one.

Where to go? Good question, if the usual search terms are not turning up any joy. Here's the Photo section of the Bundesarchiv:

http://www.bild.bundesarchiv.de/

There is also a "German Luftwaffe" website with some of its pages available in English, but I can't lay my hands on that link at this time.

Good luck, Mike/TB379

Thanks, i will have a look thnrough that. I have a number of problems with the decals i have. The first letter after the cross, in the case a Blue A, is the wrong colour for the position Rudel held at the time. Second, it's a B-2 from 1943, and i am certain he would be flying a newer type by then. The only thing i can think of is that this might be a second aircraft he might have used. There is one photo which claims to show it, but it has wing tanks which makes it an R-2 not a B-2.

I also have superscale markings for rudels G-2 and 190D-9 which are spot on, so in the end i might just trust them and go with it. Somtimes i just wish i wasn't so interested in german aircraft. They make things so bloody difficult. And as you say, B&W photos don't help.

Ilove to see all of your finished 190s lots of talent in this build. Yes  I was doing my research on the TA 152H-1 and need some advice. My decals are for Green 3 they dont tell me what unit the plane is from it has a red and yellow tailband. I would assume it is JG/301. My next question most of the 152s I have seen built on the internet have RLM 82,83 on the wings my instructions have RLM 75,82 on wings. What would be the most likely combo ?  Confused

Mike and Mo- Great seeing both of those JG5 birds, thinking of building one of those myself here!

nomad- According to my references (Luftwaffe Camouflage and Markings 1933-1945 by K.A. Merrick), the "standard" camouflage for the TA-152 was RLM 81 and RLM 82 splintered over RLM 76 for top surfaces, with natural metal on the lower surfaces, though RLM 76 was applied to wooden parts on the lower surfaces.   That being said, actual colors could vary wildly depending on paint supply and wartime production procedures.  The red and yellow RD bands were indeed JG301 aircraft.  Sorry, not sure if I helped or made it worse!  Hopefully someone else has some more info on this exact machine.

Andrew- Thanks buddy!  It's all of you guys who build here that make these GB's so much fun.  A lot of talent here, can't wait until Saturday to get started!  Just have to decide yet which kit to build, though I am leaning towards a TA-152 myself as I have never built one. Embarrassed

Frank  I never realized how much of a grey area there is on what color these planes actualy are. I have made up my mind and I will model a Ta-152 H-1 of Oberfeldwebel Walter Loos Green 4 JG/301. This guy was a good pilot he started flying in Jan 1944, he only flew 66 mission and scored 38 confirmed victories and 8 unconfirmed. Not bad if he started out a few years earlier he might have been very dangerous. This plane I will paint RLM 76, 81.82 on the fuse. wings will be 81,82

Yeah Nomad, i read alot of the confusion stems from the production practices of late war with many companys building different parts with different colours at different locations before being put together.....That shows how effective the bombing campaign was i guess....

Frank, so Hans Assi Hahns 109 had a yellow nose and not a red one eh, OOPS, did that one 5 years ago...

Heh fellas!

Just received a box from Squadron, inside is my FW-190 F-8 kit from Edward in 1/48 scale.

Looking through the box it is a shame I will only be using aprox. 1/2 the parts as my version was not armed. The kits includes all arrays of ground attack ordinance from bombs, cannons and Panzershrek rockets. Most of the PE is for the delicate fins and supports on the bombs. Guess the 'spares' bin will be full of Luftwaffe aircraft ordinance. Oh well, sticking to my plan to model the unit captured in May 1945.

Will take a while to get under way, with summer soon here and all!Toast

Only one more day!  This is gonna be good, I can feel it already!  Trying to decide between an early war A-3 and a late war A-8.  Might end up flipping a coin in the end!
