Kermit may I if you please get in on this build ? I haven't built a ship in years, a lot of years to be honest. I am not sure of which I will do but I would like to enter a Destroyer, more than likely in 1/700 scale.

The kit I have is actually one of the original production runs. I picked it up off Ebay a fewyears back and must have come from an old collection. In any case the modlings themselves look great-NO FLASH what so ever... There may be some seam work, but it will be hard to say until construction begins. My biggest obstacle I think will be painting/masking and the PE I intend to try out.

Well,... i guess your humble host is the first one to cut sprue.... As i announced i will start off with Revell of Germany's Type XXI sub with visible interior. Not much done apart from spraying the inside of the hull halves light grey, painting some dials and tubes that are molded on and adding a black wash as to simulate dirt...:

More to follow soon.

Well you also have a 9 hour lead on start time from those of us on the west coast of North America Wink

I did take some pics of my old kit box and sprues just to show it here though. The only mold line which I found that obviously needs clean up is on the centerline of the bottom of the hull.

Starting me too Wink

First of all needed to found the right box where i put the gannet. He comes in usual RoG box, then with lateral opening... the best way to lost some piece, then i used to put kits that comes with these box in others old boxes with the convenient top opening...

Time ... after a quarter of an hour i found it in the italeri antonov an- 2 colt box..... (and where i put the antonov?)

..going to the gannet:

The kit are one of the best kit that i lately see on my workbench (lotsofpieces!!! i like it).

All fly control surfaces are movable (not ever this it's a good thing) without wasting the accuracy of the kit:

Photobucket

i had alreafy glued the tail surfaces, rudders etc before to start this post

 Photobucket

Weapons bay, front gear well and cockpit base even glued.

Photobucket

Front gear well need some details to add.

This afternoon dedicated to do research for gannet details, heres a honest site for after WW2 british planes

Lots of picture , history etc and mainly great details of planes Yes

return on kit

Fuselage as the revell made it:

Photobucket

Photobucket

The nose comes with air intakes closed and too few dept.... before drill and cutter action

Photobucket

Photobucket

Again not decided which version to do ( Decals are for Royal Navy and Marineflieger )

The first idea after visiting the site above, after found this picture,

(copiright of picture thunder-and-lightnings.co.uk )

is to do some partial double mamba (what name Boo Hoo ) engine scratch (i'll not use aftermarket kits to finish the gannet) to simulate partial maintenance time.

that's all for introduction, and time to go on bed Sleep

Hope updates this weekend

Stikpusher,

Great intro and a really interesting kit. It comes with a tiny helo too?Stick out tongue Think i am going to enjoy seeing it built sir.

Bsyamato,

I can see you understand the group building thing nowWink I enjoyed your introduction to the gannet. It looks like it is one of revell's newer kits? Detail looks very good sofar... The only thing that i am still wondering about is what you mean with "double mamba"Wink... My best guess would be "weathering"?? (aging the model, making it look old and used?) Guess we will find out soon. Great work sofar and looking forward to your next pictures!Yes

Srry for my english Kermit Bow Down, double mamba it's the gannet engine, formed by two turboprop engine  joined with

a gearbox... at the end the Gannet have two engine.

For wheatering i'll use as ever drybrush, only focused on sea ambient.

Yes the kit it's one of newer revell kit (2007), i take a pictures of untouched sprues but don't remember where is.

If you interested in this kit here a review of it,

Soon some update of the progress.

Ps what's the length of the XXI submarine that you build?

bsyamato,

No, it is me who has to apologize for failing to understand you were mentioning the engines.... Pretty stupid mistake of meBig Smile I am sorry my friend.

I just took a look at that review you posted and i think you convinced me to look for it next time i am in the hobby shopWink I really like the way it looks!

Anyways,.... the revell 1:144 "wilhelm bauer" type XXI submarine with visible interior is 53cm (21") in length once completed, just like their VIIC in 1:125 scale. Sofar i am very impressed with it and there is alot of nice detail.

LOL !! Big Smile

i think you write posts as me, after midnight when the sleep it's very strong..

as i write above the kit is very nice even for oob finish and without aftermarket pieces.

Today i've worked a little on it, cut away the panel for access to engine(s) so.. i cannot retire to scratch it.

tipe XXI .. wow 53 cm .. i have in stash only a bismark 1/350 that have more lenght than it . never builded submarines till now. i'm curious to see a wip of one Big Smile

Stikpusher I will be watching your build closely as I am planning to build a destroyer too, and haven't built a ship since I was a kid. That was a bunch of moons ago too.

Bsyamato what an unusual build, and thanks for the links. I will be watching with great interest.

Kermit I went to Michaels today to get a replacement model for little Kenny, after a year he finally broke the P-51 I got for his B-day last year. Got the same model for him as he asked Uncle Randy to fix it for him, got it finished up and given to him this evening. LOL no I didnt build a P-51 in a day buddy Stick out tongue it was one of Testors fast build kits, they are pretty tough too seeing as how it took a 3 year old almost a year to brake. Anyway while at Michaels I noticed they have a couple of sub kits Surprise and I have a 50% off coupon good for tomorrow only, and I have never built a sub Embarrassed You can see where this may be going I think, and you have a habbit of makin me do kits or use building methods I have never used before ........................

Buddy!Big Smile Ofcourse i would love to have you for the GB! And i am very curious about your news here. Sub kits you say?? If  it is the revell subs, all of them are nice but the 1/144 kits are a little nicer than the older 1/125 U99 kit...just sayinWink. Oh,..... and subs fly through the water so technically it's not a shipGeekedPropeller

Looking forward to the news about your scoreSmile

More cut on fuselage, need to make more space possible for details etc.

Photobucket

Watching pictures of real some little detail to correct.

Photobucket

on the front well ,the rounded shapes are greater than the kit on real and can be opend for engine maintenance and lots of wires and cables can be visible (good way to mess up a model Crying )

Handling the piece with one hand drill.. piece came out fortunately without breaks. can be i put few gue.

Photobucket

not a great problem, i glued these pieces when i not planned an engine modding.

Easiest to continue the work!

that's the kit shape (at the same time i sanded the upper surface of well to give it a thin aspect)

and after real pictures confrontation:

Now the front cover

Details starts good but from real pictures are visible some undone detail (here a picture)

some cut, sanding needed.

Agreed, it makes building that much more enjoyableYes

Richard, yes sir you are 100% right, subs are very coolCool I'm loving the look of your interior on your type XXI..I beleive they have one restored somewhere in Bremen...Hey have you seen the resin interior compartments for the 1/72 type VIIc, i think CMK make them...(subtle hintAngel)

bsyamato, yes some of the parts are wafer thin, mainly the stabilising fins on the torpedos...Will have to be extra carefull with them, i'm expecting a challenging but enjoyable build with this one...Your work on the Gannet looks first class, very well done....

Bsyamato,

I am glad you like the GB's. Come to think of it.... i do all my modeling for the groups. It is just extra fun to talk about it with people who like the same subject. In this case ASW stuffSmile

Julez,

Hey have you seen the resin interior compartments for the 1/72 type VIIc, i think CMK make them...(subtle hintAngel)

DONT even start about the 1/72 VII's..... I have been trying to find one for weeks now and the only one i found at ebay was in england, setting me back 100 euro's with shipping (almost doubling the normal price i paid) ...Ick! A bit too rich for my blood...

Yes, ive seen the resin stuff. Looks great too! Also saw somebody do a conning tower of a type VIIC in 1/35 scale that looked awesome too.

Richard, yeah i'd love to do a project like that one of these days...I do have one planned with the 1/72 Flower, in scene from the Cruel Sea the Compas Rose is taking on survivors from a U-boat that they attacked and i'd like to add the bow of a TypeVII sticking out of the water at a 45% angle next to a Flower with nets down with a few figures climbing the nets and more in the water....One dayConfused
