20th century military works for me. There is a plan to tighten just a litle I hope.  I think the only that is more encompassing as that would be the..

"Anything Since The Big Bang with Emphasis on Curved Time & Alternate Universes GB"

It'll get a lot narrower. I was just throwing you guys some trifles, that's all. I don't want to talk too much about the next GB when it's seriously in question whether I'm gonna be able to pull this one off. I don't think I'd deserve to host a GB if I didn't actually finish a model for it!

"Anything Since The Big Bang with Emphasis on Curved Time & Alternate Universes GB"

Because of the curved time that one has actually already started and yet is already over.

That'd be some of that wibbly wobbly timey wimey stuff. Wish I had not already built my Airfix Tardis...

Bish and GMorrison,

You guys are doing nice work and headed quickly toward the finish line. "Drilling rivets and drinking wine" should be a sing title, maybe on a Warren Zevon album.

I've been able to make some serious progress on Dredd the last few days. The green and blue areas are largely painted and shaded barring a little touchup in a couple places.

I'll dull them with a flat or semigloss clear after a couple of days drying. Next it's on to the head. Still need to work on the base and gun.

Cheers, Aaron

GM, wow, great work. What are you using for the rivet's.

On this side of the pond we call them straight pins. Those things tailors use to hem up garments.

I'm painting them tonight and will post a picture or two.

Thanks Aaron.

Well, it's all about scrounging at the hardware store now.

(yeah, its my all time favorite thing to do)

Nemo's gear that came in the box is total caca doodoo.

Get the drift?

So the bottle on his chest has been re-worked. It involved a couple of plastic map pins (a plastic bead in a given diameter is harder to find than you'da thunk.) A section of brass tube. And a couple three strips of tin cut from that last capsule off the bottle of Zinfandel. Yes we live large here in the Bay Area.

Made the fitting out of styrene tubing.

Brass SSBM props, a ring of solder, and steam punk lives!

The rifle is so poor that I had to go online and find a set of plans for a replica at full size.. Getting started...

And the rivets Bish asked about. Painted the helmet ones coppery brass and the boot ones brassy copper.

I'm really having a good time now.

As for the next GB, well all I can say is that Aaron and Tim had better get cracking, or else there's gonna be empty pages in that magazine.

Modeling is an excuse to buy books.

GMorrison,

What a great post! That chest tank is superb. And looking at what you had to start with, yeesh. The knob on top is perfect. Steampunk indeed!

The Dr. G. Morrison Phlogiston Underwater Hand-Cannon is coming along nicely. How do you propose to do fashion the stock?

Is that iced Zinfandel or four fingers of whiskey in that glass? If it were me painting those rivets, I'm thinking whiskey. The lesson here, for those of you keeping notes at home, alcohol fortifies one's spirit to cope with various model-building challenges. (FSM legal disclaimer: Tim's opinions are not the opinions held by anyone at FineScale Modeler or Kalmbach Publishing but Tim, and you'd be better off ignoring anything he says, writes, or otherwise communicates. In fact, Tim has been proven to cause cancer in the state of California. You've been warned.)

How much of the pin stem do you intend to leave? I assume you'll cut them down with a Dremel tool or something similar.

GM: Wow that's a bunch of rivets.. um... pins!!!

And the tank and air gun look great- I too love that knob- very steampunkish!

Hopefully I'll have something to show this weekend, just a few issues to clean up and a final coat to 'Make it So...' The Romulan is coming along a little slower but still close to done.

Great work there GM, and that's a whole bunch of rivet's.

But one wonders, is the drink there to steady the hand or is it just to hold the ice to sooth the sore finger's.

Bish -- Vader is looking truly awesome. The surcoat color and shading looks spot-on, and the chest and belt technicals really pop. Nice work!

Aaron -- Hizonner appears to be shaping up nicely. What is the blue color, by the way? (It looks like a great shade for a pending automotive project.)

GM -- Great, serious work on the riveting prep. Also love the work on Nemo's accessories so far--the SSBM prop on the valve wheel is brilliant!

Tim -- Thanks for the mug art. (Comps to the Art Dept. for their fine work!)

OK...so... before the "shelf princess" turns into a complete "shelf queen. "... gettin' back to the green guy.

Gotta figure out how to replace the bumps on the skin lost when fixing the SEAM FROM THE BLACK LAGOON!  And a couple of  mock ups before some primer.  Which I am going to do as soon as I hit the  "Create Post" button.  here I go... and I'm gone  :P

Marc

How about using CA glue in little drops to replace the bumps, all I can think of now which may work without a lot of work

Looks good Marc, I'm not sure what to do about the sanded off detail there, though Phil's idea sounds good to me. Of course you always etch a zipper on there if it were a suit from one of the cheaper rip-off films Wink

Well, it's been a long trek but lemme me 'Captain on the bridge!'

Sign I'm beginning to think I really need to build a photo booth sorta thing, it took me about 45 photos with the camera and phone to get these reasonably (I think) ones. Then the camera still added a bit of the whole 'shiny' thing - the pants are matte but I did add a little gloss to the leather areas and the skin.

The face I thought turned out pretty well, I'm mostly happy. The base needs some more work but hey if people are staring at the base the model must not be very good, or so I hope.

Nice work on Picard, I think you did a really nice job on the face, I like it.

I know what you mean about a photo booth. Its a real pain having to turn the work bench into one every time I finish a build.

Gamera - you've done a splendid job with Picard. Yes

I like the subtle variety in skin tones you achieved here.  Only thing you might want to add are his pupils -  but I could only tell they were missing in the close up shots.

regards,

Jack

Forgot to add a comment about  photo booths - my last one was just a dark shirt draped over some pillows on the couch, and natural sunlight through the window.

Let me start with saying that these are some of the most impressive builds I've ever seen-across the board-from the metal finishes on Iron Man & Robbie to the flesh tones on Superman, Hans, Scottie & Red Sonja-I am truly in awe.

Having said that, I am finally getting started on the Green Goblin-most of the major assemblies have been glued together, gaps filled & sanded-hope to get some primer on tomorrow pm-hopefully I can make the deadline-after all, Shivinigh's Spidey needs a villain to battle.

Hey thanks guys, it's good to get something done!!!

Jack: OUCH! I knew I'd miss something! Thanks for the reminder, I've got a tiny black marker for stuff like this, two little dots and I should have it taken care off. Embarrassed

Well, it's been a long trek but lemme me 'Captain on the bridge!'

Nicely done! Once you have the pupils the way you like them, I'll add Capt. Picard to the Hall of Fame and you can claim the ribbon. I think completing the Romulan would be awesome, but I don't think any of us are going stamp our feet and pout if you don't.

I think you matched the uniform red really well. Actually, I thought that would be difficult, but you pulled it off. What color(s) did you end up using?

I ran into a similar problem when I built Moebius' Green Goblin. I used Mr. Surfacer 500 to recreate the texture on Goblin's legs. I think the super glue might work too, but my experience recently with it biting me in the rear end on the D.VII build would make me hesitant for such an application as this.

Tim: Thanks! Good to get one done for a change!

For the red areas the base was MM Acrylic hull red. Then I painted in the high-lights with Vallejo red which had too much contrast so I then sprayed the whole thing with a couple of heavy mist coats from the top down of Polly Scale I think Santa Fe red- it's a railroad colour anyway. I'll check when I get home but that's the grist of it.

Hopefully I can get the Romulan figure done too. I still can't find that blasted disruptor so inspired by GM's scratchbuilt spear gun I'm building a substitute from an excess drop tank. So far it doesn't look exactly like the ones used in the series but hey the Romulans have a big military and who says they might have a few older surplus or even newer prototype weapons floating around eh? That's my story and I'm sticking to it. Otherwise other than a little clean-up she's pretty much done.
