Thanks guys.

marc, no, he didn't say that, but he wasn't to happy that the mug was empty when I put it next to him. I am sure I heard milk and 2 sugars.

Gamera, thanks. There was quite a bit of brush work on this, which made a change.

Tim, very nice touches on tinting and especially the hair. It's looking very intense, very nice.

Jack cool work on the teeth and how you displayed the progression.

Bish another great build, get busy will ya. It's not like you have anything else going on…..

Nemo is really coming along, love the boots and ties.

There's been some unbelievable work during this GB, it's really nice seeing different themes but I still think my favorite is the nautilus with that menacing Sea Monster. Terrifying..

Conan's new chompers:

That one was a little blurry. Let's try another.

Anyway, much improved. Thanks for making me take a second look at that one, Jack!

Bish> Wow!  Lord Vader certainly turned out well.  I think you captured his "sithness".  Wink

Tim> You had a miniature set of dentures made and stuck them into Conan's mouth, didn't you?  Those look great.

Tim: Great job there on the flesh tones and great advice there by Jack and execution on Conan's chompers!

Great progress guys, almost wish there was enough time to do another figure.

GM - I'm liking the metal look on Nemo, and can see how foil masking comes in handy to form around the organic shapes of a figure.

Tim - nicely done, those teeth look fantastic!

Jack

GM, Nemo's looking very good!

Tim, Conan's choppers are most impressive. Well worth the extra work.

Nice choppers Tim.

Looking at a bunch of B&W pics from the flick, the big guy seemed to be on the dark side. With some stark highlights that can be a combo of that semi shiny look of a reptiles skin a bit of high contrast in the photo. So that's what I am going to go for.

Photo use for discussion purposes only

1st thing was to take some oil Lamp Black and mix in a bit of white, so it wasn't dead black, and a few drops of Japan Dryer so it would dry this year. I brushed in as thin a coat as I could down into every crevice. Then some dry paper towels were used to wipe that off all of the high parts. Some cotton buds used to get in between the toes etc.  Then lastly it was very softly wiped down with a paper towel that was barely damp with white sprits to clean those high parts a bit more.  So little spirits that anyone that didn’t see you do it would swear it was dry.

Bish - great job on the Sith Lord. The gloss and flat colours really worked well together. Excellent job my friend.

Tim -by Krom but Conan is looking good. Every dentist around would be jealous of those teeth. Nicely done.

Wing-Nut -the creature is coming along nicely. Did you drybrush the scales on his arms, legs, and chest?

Thanks shiv.  Yup, so far just some progressively lighter dry brushing. I need to let it dry a bit more before I put a gloss coat so I can do some black pin washes the get back some of the contrast. I think at that point I will be getting close to the "that's enough point.

Bish, thanks my friend.

Marc that looks great, you've really got those scales popping out in all their glorious detail.

Although without Julie in place it looks to me like he just painted his nails (claws?) and is blowing on them to get them to dry faster. Clown

Bow Down (As the young folks would say...LMAO!!!)

Truly excellent work on the highlighting and shadowing there, Marc! You can see every scale and fishy sinew in HI-DEF.

Thanks everyone! I'm glad Conan's teeth turned out as well as they did. I hoped to have more pics for you guys Friday afternoon, but my flesh-tone mix was off and my airbrushing session turned into something less than enjoyable. So, I took the weekend to reflect and breathe, and I'll make a new push starting tomorrow. Aaron and I are shooting the next NPRD this afternoon, so no painting today.

Marc - The gill-man is coming along nicely.

GMorrison - I'm think it's down to you and Shiv for the next guy across the finish line. I can't wait to see the underwater rifle.

Shiv - Glad to hear that you've been able to overcome your web challenge. Go-go Black Spidey!

Tim, thanks! I went back and did the pupils but then the weather turned awful and I can't get any good lighting now so I'll try to get some face close-ups done when it clears off.

The full body shot you used is great, personally I can't see the missing pupils except in the close-up.

Thanks guy, appreciate the comments.

I think I actually have a shot at getting this in under the deadline. the gray gill guy is done, basically. After all the pastes and highlights I didn’t think I was going tot the black pin washes here and there but think I will.  Got the girl primed and will start on her shading tonight.

Marc - yes, that looks really good.

So that is just lamp black lightened with white to arrive at some greys?

I like the overall hue, slightly warm blue to it.

Jack

GMorrison

So Nemo finally got his boots on, although they need buckles for the straps.

After a shameless self plug for Nemo on another thread, I was invited to come take a look... fantastic stuff guys! Capt Picard, Lord Vader, Conan, The Creature.... such a feast here!

A couple of hours in the workshop and we've got Conan's torso!

Before airbrushing flesh tones, I picked out Conan's prodigiously bulging blood pipes with a little bit of green. I'm probably going to go back with a very light mix of flesh highlight and green to make them pop just a little more.  I hope the effect isn't too subtle.

 Off his left shoulder.

Right shoulder.

And his back.

Up next, the legs! Then Belit.

Tim: Looks great, love the face! I didn't do much with Picard's veins but he somewhat lacks the buffness of Conan... Stick out tongue

Conan's legs are finished.

OK, so despite my shaky iPad shot here, you can see the difference between Conan's upper body and his legs. I cooled off the base flesh tone with green and used that as the base tone beneath the Belit's body, where Conan's legs would be in deepest shadow. Then, I warmed up and brightened to give just a hint of light and something for the viewer's eyes to look at.

Here's a closer look ...

I used the same principle on the back of Conan's legs. However, the shadow aren't nearly as deep because he doesn't isn't shielded by Belit. So, the base color here is just a tad darker than the highest highlight on the front of Conan's legs.

Here's the demarcation line between the shadow front and rear shadows. Remember the black and gray primer? Those helped me determine where this line would be. I softened it up and I think it's turned out all right.

I flat coated Conan to protect him from the masking I'll have to do before starting on Belit. I also blocked in his hair with a mix of Vallejo dark blue gray, medium blue, red, and black. I'm glad I laid that flat coat down because I put a swath of black across his chest and had to scrub it up with water and a cotton swab. How's that for thinking?

That's looking really nice Tim, I am amazed at what you and jack are able to do with so much flesh. I get the shivers when ever I have to paint a 35th face and hands.
