Well, I weaseled out again on past shading and all that, it's in the display case now.  The canopy installation continued with being fiddley but it seems OK now.  Held my mouth just a certain way.  The monk sailed over about midway through.  I like the T-38 so much and this model of it that I put it in a display case next to Robbie Risner's F-86E, another of my favorites.

All I can say is WOW! John that is really stunning mate.

It is one of the planes that really look good if it is all clean and not weathered.

I believe you to be the fires to complete, well done.

I will update the front page.

John, a splendid build you have there in the T-38. Yes

It's actually refreshing to see a clean finish compared to what is normally done these days.

-----------------------------

Thanks everyone for the interest in the subject I've chosen.  Came  across this painting which I think is the maximum I'll go for the overall 'orange' look:

Nick Millman's site also seems to have this at the extreme end of possible Japanese trainer colours.

Thanks, Jack.  It will be interesting to see what color you come up with.  I'll copy you if I ever get to my 1/32 Willow.

That's a very nice, clean build, John! I really like the "new and shiny" look of your T-38! I prefer to weather my aircraft models and my Doublebolt won't be an exception, but its always nice to see a clean plane once in a while.

Hi Everyone,

I've managed to get my little Chippy done In the end, it as as you expect, a fairly early Airfix kit. It fits OK, but all the seams need some work, and general tidy up is required. I added Hobby-Tec instrument panels and harnesses, but really that is a bare minimum, there is a lot more that could be done if you wanted a detailed Chipmunk. My interest is in different schemes, so  I didn't go down that road.

Here are some more WIP photos, then the completed ones and finally some photos with my other Chipmunk. I hope I can find time to do another entry here, but lets see.

Cheers

Tony

Nice work!  Airfix did a good job on the shapes.  They both look great.

Thanks Theuns, Misty and John. I started another one last night. I had two in the stash, both in the current boxing with the black aircraft on the front. Annoyingly, the roundels are off centre in both kits, so I guess I'll need another before I do that scheme. So this one will be the red and white one, or one of them. The Airfix option covers the red and white scheme from the 80s, I've also got a Modeldecal scheet that has one from the early 70s. The delineation of the red and grey pattern on the wings is different, it's from fore to aft on the Airfix one, and from wing tip to wing tip on the other.

Cheers

Tony, are the decals in the "new" release chippy box off center? I am still lurking around the shops for my chippy!

Yes Theuns, very annoying. Check the decals before you purchase, if you intend to do that scheme. At least I have other options but  I still want a good set of those decals.

Cheers

Hi Tony, nice execution on that Chippy, looks great!

I think I'm partial to the yellow one as well, partially because I'm Canadian.

airfix have posted the replacemrnt sprue so i should be going again soon

in the mean time i managed to get the canopy done.

its the first time ive used a vacform canopy. it has pe mirrors and pe MDC which looks ok. the canopy on these hawks has an obvious white trim (seal) around the main frame. i tried to paint something like this before and didnt like the result, so instead i built the frame out of white 0.005" plasticard and this seems to have worked out ok

Nice canopy.  I would get glue in all the wrong places doing that.

Wel, if you want to be really P.C. it would be "stear person" or "stear people"  being non gender based  LOL

Obviously you've never flown a Stearman if you have any thoughts whatever of it being female..... it's a man's plane by any definition and I'll gladly take the flack for being so "truthful"!YeahWink

OK FSM,

I just wanted to prove to you that even though I haven't been posting much, I have been making progress.

The weather here in SoCal has been nice and warm, perfect for painting.  So, the past few evenings and afternoons I've spent splattering paint on my plastic.  Both the SNJ and Corsair have preliminary coats on 'em.  Here's where I'm at:

The Corsair has some blue on her.  I'm playing with spraying different shades to give it a splotchy look.  I still have to go back and touch up the rudder and one of the elevators to give them a more faded look.  The cowling I didn't paint because it's gonna be white anyway.

My SNJ is a little further along, as far as paint goes.  I was able to find a "silver" I was happy with, and I was able to get the ID stripes on too.

I got the SNJ's vac-formed canopy in the mail the other day, so while the paint hardens on the fuselage I can start trimmin'-n-maskin' that nightmare.

Anyway, that's where I'm at.  Questions, comments, criticisms welcomed.

Cheers!

Misty - like what you did with the canopy detail.  Wonder if white decals would of been easier than the trim you created with the plastic card - or would it of been too thin?

----------------------------------------------------

Omar - great tonal variations on both, particularly the fact that you've incorporated both random and specific shaped areas.

Jack

hmm decals, not a bad idea!!

as it was a vacform canopy the plasticard gave it a bit of... err.. substance? as i plan on having it open it helped make it look like a real canopy with a frame.

but when i do it with a kit canopy i think i will give the decal idea a try. nice one!

Hey everyone, haven't forgotten about the GB, just tons of life stuff going on.  But I got some bench time and thought I'd post a pic of the start of the T-38.  I'm doing the 1/72 PM kit and I must say there isn't much there really.  Embarrassed  There is no cockpit, just 2 "seats"!  Not sure what I'm going to do there.  Going to have to look into some 1/48 kits of the T-38, but for now, haven't gotten far, but here she is.
