scottrc

Great job on the Thud Doug, you did a nice job on all the demarcation lines between all those different colors.  They look clean and crisp.

Scott

Scott,

Thanks for the good woods. It was a masking job from hell. Messed up big time. I had to respray the bottom color on part of the plane. Learned a big lesson.

Well, I finally did it, I completed my first 1/48 scale jet build in almost 25 years.  I built this kit completely out of the box just for the fun of it and I found out how rusty I am in many areas.  Maybe someday, I might go and build both the 105 and 106.

Here are the pictures of my competed model.

Scott, your 101 is a real beauty.  Well done!

I'm slowly moving along on my 107.  I finished touching up the over spray and laid down a clear coat for decals which go on next.  Not sure when because the weather has been so nice lately.  Been doing a lot of yard work.  I'll post some pic once I get going on the decals.

Thanks Craig, I will be waiting here looking forward to seeing you finish that 107.  You are mastering what looks to me a challenging build.

I started to put on the decals today.  What a nightmare.  These decals suck.  I've already ripped a couple and they don't lay worth a crap.  It's taking a lot for me not to throw this thing in the trash.  I will finish this thing come hell or high water.

Thought I'd post a pic real quick.  I still have several more decals to go.  Figure I should stop for now before I break something.  It looks pretty cool, but there are a lot of little thing that are pissing me off.

Sorry to hear the decals are giving you fits, on the bright side, if they are too much of a problem, decals are easy to upgrade and replace.  Sure it looking good.

Thanks gang.  Like the PCA build, it's everyone's support that keeps me going.  It's just frustrating when things don't go right.  I'm taking the day off from modeling and brewing an IPA for a competition.  I may not be that good at models, but I can brew some medal winning beers.  Big Smile

I could not think of a better activity to segment model building than brewing and taste testing beer.

When it rains, it pours.  I just can't catch a brake with this kit.  When I masked the plane to shoot the red a few weeks ago, I didn't do the underside of the wing correct.  It should look like the topside.  I just figured this out this evening when I was about to apply the decals to the underside of the wing.  After a few minutes to cool off, I re-masked and shot the Alclad.  Thankfully I had a little left over.  The first pic shows the screw up and the second shows the fix.  The third pic shows my next self inflicted screw up.  I taped over those fine quality decals and pulled them off when I re-moved the tape.  Angry Bang Head.  Now I have to find a replacement insignia.  Unfortunately, I don't have any 1/72 USAF decals.

Lord give me strength.

Yeah, but I'm determined to finish it.  I'm going to have to paint the red strips by hand now.  Also, a fellow modeler has offered to send me the insignia I need.  It's just going to take me a little longer to finish.  This model has been a learning experience, and a test of patience.  Hopefully it will look cool when I'm done.

Well, I've started the painstaking process of painting the three red stripes on the aft end of the fuselage.  This is going to take several days to do since I will be doing one at a time.  They are only one mm stripes that are one mm apart.  Easy for me to do one (two, otherside) at a time.

I got stripe two of three painted on this evening.  I know it's not much, but it's FORWARD progress.  I haven't lost or damaged anything over the last 24 hours.  So I'm doing' good. Yes
