Weekend Madness 2014-Stick a fork in it, we're done! See you next year!
Posted by lewbud on Wednesday, October 29, 2014 12:08 AM

Ladies and Gentlemen! Boys and Girls! Step right up for this years weekend of modelling mayhem! That's right, it's time for the annual Weekend Group Build. What's that you say? Build a model in a weekend!? Can't be done you say? Pish tosh, only mere mortals think like that! Do you have the stuff to be a modelling god? If so, step right up and take your chance.

The Rules:

1. Have fun.

2. Build something simple. Your humble scribe tried to do three kits in one weekend, something I don't recommend. I also don't recommend a Mach 2 kit. However, if you're a sadistic soul that likes a challenge, the rest of us will gladly eat popcorn and marvel at the attempt. This is a chance to clear out the modelling cobwebs or take a break from that project that has consumed you for the last year.

3. Have fun. THIS IS IMPORTANT!

4. The timeframe is 48 hours. If you start at 5:00 pm on Friday, you must be done by 5:00 pm on Sunday.

5. Take pics, lots of pics.

6. Did I mention have fun?

7. Crossovers are allowed.

THE DATES: You'll notice I said dates. We're at that silly time of year where it's hard to pin down one weekend for everyone. Therefore I suggest the following weekends: 5-7 Dec., 12-14 Dec., and 19-21 Dec. I also realize that some people work weekends, so fit your builds in whenever you can within starting and end dates. What's needed here is a futile and senseless gesture, and we're just the guys and gals to do it. Who's with me? And remember, when touring Universal Studios ask for Babs.

LOL!  you know lewbud, your "advertising" alone warrants praise!  I said I wasn't going to do anymore GB's until I got caught up with the dozen I'm in now, but you know what, I have a stack of those PM Luft '46 planes that I think fit the bill here.  So why not!

Welcome aboard Eagle!  Those PM kits definitely fit the bill.  Look forward to seeing what you do with one of those little beasties.  Come on folks, 44 looks and only 4 takers so far?  You know you want to do it, so what are you waiting for?  Join the madness!

Welcome aboard Modelcrazy, Stikpusher, and BrandonK!  Steve, you had my heart racing with the 1/350 Arizona, but will gladly accept a divine scale Sea Fury.  Will you take the easy way out with the gorgeous Trumpeter kit, add some difficulty with an Airfix reboxing of the PM kit, or go for glory with a FROG kit from ages past?  Stik, calm and cool under pressure as always, just what this madcap group needs.  BrandonK, believe you must or fail you will.  Great thing about this is if you fail on your first attempt, you can try again!  Time for an admission of weakness, your fearful leader has no graphics skills.  If any of you possess such skills, I would appreciate your assistance in creating badge.  I would ask that in keeping with with tradition, it be a Calvin and Hobbes themed badge.  For those out in the ether pondering this Herculean endeavor remember this: A kiss is still a kiss, a sigh is just a sigh. The dark side may have cookies, but the madness has pie!

ok lewbud,

you have sold me, have to have a Calvin and Hobbes badge.

I have to get it done early, before 21st November due to work stuff, but will take a photo when the clock starts.

Not sure what yet, but its out of Monogram AH1S Cobra, Revell Spirit of St Louis or Hasegawa Rafale M.

Welcome aboard lostagain and Waynec!

Modelcrazy, I'm not sure what you mean.

Lostagain, start when you can.  Remember you have 48 hours or your build will self destruct.

Waynec, I'm not certifiable, my mom had me tested.

As I said in an earlier post, I have no graphics skills.  If any of ya'll do, please create a Calvin and Hobbes based badge.  We now return you to your regularly scheduled programming.

Although I was planning to try to do something with this. But I'm not very good at graphics.

Welcome aboard o' fixer of Bones!  Can I safely guess that a made man, such as yourself, might be bringing some Monogram goodness to this crazy lark of a build?  No need to decide now, we shall speak of this later.

Waynec, I like it but was hoping for something model related.

Modelcrazy, I've been uttering those words a lot lately!
