Fourth Annual Berny Memorial Group Build
Posted by Son Of Medicine Man on Sunday, February 8, 2015 4:35 PM
Greetings fellow modelers,

Welcome to the Fourth Annual Berny Memorial Group Build.  As a few of you know, Berny, aka Berny13, passed away a little over three years ago. He was an avid modeler and a good friend.

The First, Second and Third Annual Berny Memorial Group Build were very successful. When putting the first build together, we tried to find out what planes he was associated with while he was in the United States Air Force and use that list as a theme. But as we started going through all of his posts, we realized that he had modeled almost every subject possible.

He started out with cars. At one point he modeled armor. And when he did model planes, he even modeled Migs, so it seemed that nothing was off limits. I also know that he had an attitude that you should at the very least enjoy building your model. So we finally decided that there would be no particular theme to this build except one. HAVE FUN!

This is not an exclusive club for people who knew Berny.  Anyone can join this build!

So the rules to this build will be very short and simple. YOU HAVE TO PARTICIPATE! A group build in my opinion is supposed to bring people together and share ideas, help each other with problems, answer questions, and even proudly show your daily or weekly accomplishments with.

We are going to start the build on Berny’s birthday, which is February 22. Anything and everything that you can build is acceptable (within the restrictions of this site of course!). It can be something you are building on another group build. You can build as many models as you like. Beginners and experts alike are welcome. This build will last one year, ending on February 21, 2016.  Everyone can start signing up now and I will add you to the roster.  Please include the kit (manufacturer, scale, etc.) that you are planning on building.

All finished builds will be entered on the first page of the build. This is not a contest of speed. It is a contest of fun.

Here are the badges.  You are encouraged to pick one up if you are participating.  You don't have to wait until you have completed your build.

Ken-  Please put me in with a Revell 1/32 RF4C.  Will end up with different intakes, office and cans at least.  Will be done as one based at Udorn in '73 with SEA camo. Is going to be a crossover with the going big GB

Ken,

Put me down.  I will be starting the 1/350 Academy Indianapolis soon for the 45 build. That's as good as any of my multiple builds this year.

Hello Ken!

I will just be carrying over my unfinished builds from the previous GB! As you know, my attention is spread over 4 different kits at the current moment. They include, all in 1/72 scale:

Hasegawa RF4B "Phantom II"

Academy A-10 "Warthog"

Academy F-8E "Crusader"

Zvezda SU-27SM "Flanker B Mod 1"

All include aftermarket parts and/or decals.

This may be subject to change as whims may take me.....

Jim

On my workbench now:

It's all about classic cars now!

Why can't I find the "Any" key on my keyboard?

Ken, I was hoping I could join this build.  I know I didnt complete the 3rd Berny Build with my F-4G; I was a little ambitious with my return to the hobby last year and thought I could do it.  I found that I had a lot of things that intimidated my abilities at the time.  I am now ready to tackle this project and would like to resubmit the 1/48 Hasegawa F-4G to the line-up if possible.  Thanks, Jeremy

I'm in on this one too. I had joined the Third Annual GB with the F-35 and even started it but I never got added to the roster. I'll be continuing it for this Group Build, and then possibly start another model for it.

Hi Duke,

Sincerely sorry that I missed adding you to the roster last time!  Bow Down  Please remind me what kit you are using and I will update the roster.  You are on it now with just "F-35".

In the future, please ping me if I miss something like that again!  I assure you it was not intentional.

No worries Ken. I hadn't even noticed myself until I went back to check on it. I started the Trumpeter 1/72 scale F-35. I'll try to get pics taken soon for posting when this starts.

Hey all!

As I said, I thought I would jump in here with a few photos of the A-10 progress to get this GB going!

Yes there is a gap between the gear bay box and the fuselage! The bay was a bit hard to fit in place.Only I will ever see it though...

Tired, better hit the sheets!

Okay, I'm on the right GB page now. I'll post a pic of the Firefly when I get a chance; it's too far along to use as this build's model. Sounds like everyone's on some kind of diet losing weight and all. I think that's wonderful. I've been fortunate to have been relatively thin my whole life so can only imagine how challenging that must be. Congrats on that!

What a night tonight! The expected storm hit right at rush hour and when I got out of work, the entire city is locked up in a grid lock! I finally gave up and looked for a place to hole up! I managed to make it into Bass Pro Shop and forced myself to kill over an hour browsing at boats, fishing gear, knives, guns, ammo and other assorted goodies! Finally traffic cleared out and though still a bit slow going finally made it home! Too tired to play at the hobby desk. Another storm is to hit tomorrow night at rush hour, so another long miserable day will be in store.

Glad to see you made it home fine Jim. We ended up getting about six inches of snow overnight but it's supposed to hit about 40F/ 4.5C today though the weekend so hopefully it won't stick around too long.

I primed the Hellcat last weekend but it dried kinda on the rough side so I sanded her down with some fine grit sandpaper last night. Hopefully I'll get to painting her soon. I was going to road-trip with some guys from our club to a IPMS show this Saturday but we'll have to see what the weather does.

Anyway here's the Wildcat- still lacking those two friggin' decals...

Fine job on the Hellcat Cliff!  Very nice indeed.  Yes  Yes  I hope those decals show up soon!

It is supposed to get down to -3 degrees tonight.  Tomorrow night it is supposed to get down to -5 degrees!  Way too freaking cold!

Lol Ken thanks but that's the Wildcat- I lost the two small '2's that go on each side of the cowling. I found some in the spare decal drawer but nothing quite the same. If I don't find them soon I'm going to assume I threw them out with the used scraps of decal paper and just go ahead and improvise.

The Hellcat is still in white primer. Hopefully I'll get the white belly painted sometime soon.
