Thanks Steve, this is a fun build and Trumpeters kit is awesome. Other than some minor putty work, the engineering and details awesome.

Wow, that looks awesome Terry!

I got the rust added to the B-4 and sprayed on the final flat coat over the weekend. On the other hand I knocked a few parts off and have to replace them. Stuck now deciding if I want to leave her as is or add a little more rust here and there. I'll try to get some photos up soonish.

Thanks G, I sympathize with knocking off parts. I think it's just a part of what we do.

Well, now that I have pretty much everything where I want it in my new space (things like paint are still finding a better place), I'm finishing up the Romulan Bird of Prey and will start on my Karl. Thanks to Terry for making me want to get on that.

i usually put mirrors on warwheels just before final weathering because i will knock them off. also antenna so i don't poke an eye out as i build at nose print distance sans glasses.

Just an update on some delicate parts, and a dry fit of the overall build to show its length. I dont feel like dealing with the rubber band tracks so a set of Fruils are on the way....

I also used my Dremmel to rough up the ties to add some additional detail, they should look really used when theyre weathered.

Very cool Terry! So, are you going with dark gray? I was just considering the camo look but didn't feel like doing a complicated scheme. I’m thinking of draping camo netting over it though.

Steve somewhere along this one, I decided that I've built a lot of weathred vehicles and  I thought about how would a recently built Morser would look. I did some research and I found that this color gray was applied at the factory so that was that. When the Germans delivered one of the beats, they were accompanied my another railcar with Morser parts so I'm adding a railcar on a separate track with the extra parts. I'm showing it delivered to a railyard awaiting deployment. I ave a few other things oin mind but thats the main idea. I'm about 90% on my 1/72 Morser that I need to finish up after this one, everything fit well and should be fun.

Yeah, I here ya. I was searching for camo schemes and saw several different, unfortunately I didn’t see very many of the Thor. The ones I did see were mostly camo. The instructions give 3 different versions, one gray, so I'm going with that one.
I better get back to work on it since this move cost me a month.

Terry, looking very good, I love the worn look to the rail ties you've done there.

Steve: Looking forward to seeing what you come up with.

Here is the progress for this weekend. I have also almost competed the supporting arms, but didn't get a pic of them.

I started on the walkways and weathered the exhaust to look as if they only had a few hours on them. I also placed the rtubber band tracks on temporarily.

G it would be cool to see three of them, I dont think these guys get built enough. Its a great subject with all kind of diorama ideas but just sitting on the track looks very cool. All in al I think they were a BIG target for the allies.

Whoops, sorry guess I should have specified my entry here, I don't have a rail-gun model! My little howitzer is still sitting there, I really need to get the thing finished up.

You're right on target about them being a BIG target though. Seems you couldn't use the things unless you had total air control over the area- and if you had that then you didn't need the gun, just send your bombers in to smash the target.

I saw a documentary on AHC the other day and it was about the  Remagen Bridgehead . The Germans tried everything from fighter bombers to the Karl Gerat to knock that bridge down before/while the Allies were crossing. Eventually, the bridge just fell after all the abuse, but I thought was interesting to see one of those mortars in action. It tells of its accuracy, or inaccuracy rather. After 14 rounds, they still didn't hit the bridge.

Yes! I find this very interesting, especially in anticipation to your track laying again. I will be at that stage shortly. I have a small dilemma, my Hobby Boss WR 360 trucks are slightly wider than the Hase Thor, so I have two ideas.
1. Set the locomotive in front, or behind the mortar, and just widen the track slightly to accommodate it.
2. Make a side track where the locomotive will be sitting.
One way the dio will be longer, the other it will be wider. I haven't made up my mind yet.
Either way, I think it's going to be fun.

Steve it sounds like your going to lay your own track, I would pick a median point between the two widths, you can always cut a tiny sliver out of an axle and CA glue it back. There actually plenty of play with the wheels and track to accomodate slightly different widths. If you have any issues let Wayne or me know, we'll find a way. But please make your own track, its so easy ad looks cool.

For my last dio, I layed a bed or corkboard then cut some basswood the size of the Trumpeter ties (thats a good go to size), glued them using spacers like laying tile between them. I cut out the cleats from the provided Trumpeter tracks and CA glued them to the ties and again used Trumpeters rails. Woodland Scenic makes a nice ballast in different sizes and colors, just pick one. Once the ballast is in place I sprayed on Woodlands spray adhesive that locked it in. It sounds way more complicated than what it is. I just thought I'd add this in case anybody is checking the site, sothey can find a way to make their own tracks.

i have a tutorial on doing 1/35.

http://cs.finescale.com/fsm/modeling_subjects/f/3/t/164785.aspx

same holds for 1/72 except the spikes may be too small to see and there is less room for slop with rail width. also i suggest you stain the basswood strips before cutting them. i found it really isn't worth the effort to beat them up. between staining and weathering there will be enough.

I got some paint on the Karl today using my new bench and old paint booth setup. All went well, just a little awkward at first.
Anyway, here's my idea so far. The mortar will be sitting on its track, covered with camo netting. Next to it will be the WR-360 on a parallel track equipped with a bumper. Whether the WR-360 is/was pulling the mottar or not will be up to the observer. At the end of that track will be the Sd Kfz 7/1 AA gun. Up to 20 personal, when they finial come off back order, will be taking a break, after applying the camo netting and awaiting for new orders.
