So many questions!
Ok, first up to bat:
Lizardqing2, WELCOME!!!!!! ok, and, please do convince your wife on that M20. We might get an M8/M20 build to rival the 222/223 builders! And the Kubels and Klettencraps are close behind!
ManiK_Impressive, welcome(said in a loud booming voice, with echo)
Scorn/Mourningstar, Lets get that M26 a rollin! and tell scorn that the M977, can come along to.
Andytee, I hope that we can have more British stuff along for the ride, so the Humber can come along(just make sure you start paintin today(or afterwards)
Tigerman, I hope the M8 can tag along, It would look nice with the other M8/20 series!
ps, I asked dwight-ta-ala said he might do a GB badge for us :)

Thanks Beav, I'm not sure that's what I want to do, but I'm leaning to it. Always wanted to build one. Dwight is going to be one busy beaver, having to do all these group badges. Oh...no pun intended. Big Smile [:D]

This would be a tricky one to do, too. Small AFV is a very generic term you know but well give this beaver some time. He-he-he.

BTW, I said that I'll be doing a willy's mb with a trailer but I changed my mind. Sherm gifted me with an amphibious truck and I'll be doing that one. I'll be starting later though as I still need to finish my 88 for the towed gun gb.

Allright, she said she is on with the M20. She has barley started on it so good timing with this. Both of mine are started as well, but with the other stuff I have going, probally could stretch it out for a while. If no one has brought up getting together a web site for the stuff I could throw one together either as a page on my site or set up another one entirely. Let me know if y'all would like that.

I'm with you spector,
A nice calming Kubel.
You think it will keep the tweezers on the bench and out of the wall?

Do they make an ABER PE set for the Kubel ? If the answer is no , then the tweezers stay on the bench where they belong ! When is the start date here ?

I just got my report card which got me a free trip to the LHS and I picked up Tamiya's SAS commando jeep, I'll be doing that.

I'm also doing a Demag w/ neb 42 for the Towed gun gb and I guess that counts for this one too.

count me in, although i won't be able to get to work until Mid-May at the earliest.

i'm planning on a 1:35 German or Soviet armored car or maybe some truck or other civy if i can get a kit of that.

i'll probably do the TWK/Start BA-20M Armored Car i got in a cheap lot of soviet armor off of ebay today, pending there's no crazy problems with it; anyone know anything about this kit?

everyone who is doing the 222,

i opened the box last night, and started fabricating the body of the kit out of sheet styrene. I noticed a problem with the turret. IT IS THE WRONG SHAPE!!! just thought you guys may want to know. check it out, and if need be, i can explain more.

Ok edog,, Whats up with the shape,, as i look at it now I dont see it but then again I have no pics to compare it to. Is it to big? To many sides is what I am geussing you mean.

beav,,, Thanks for moving the start date up!! Of course I didn't see the change till this afternoon,, now I am a day behind all of you.. After I finish the 222 I will being doing a dio of a M8. Have the Interior/Ext. kit from Verlindan on order at the LHS. Have had this idea running thru my head now for over a year now and I think it is time to put it in motion. Can you add my name to the first page list??? I feel left out.Big Smile [:D]

Ok, here is a quick diagram done in paint. The dimensions are not correct, but you can get the idea. The top is how the turret should be, and the bottom is how the turret is on the Tamiya kit.

If you guys want, I can see if i can make a template for fabricating a new turret.

As far as the wall thickness problem, I think I have solved it. I am planning on leaving the doors open on the Sdkfz 222 to show of the interior, but the thickness of the Tamiya plastic was bugging me. I had initially planned to remake the entire body of the vehicle, BUT check this out. I stuck some sheet stock to the side of the kit with double sided tape, and trimmed around the edges. This gave me the plastic mock-ups of the wall, that will replace the kit parts. Oh, I used .04mm stock but the scaled down version should actually be .022mm. Anyway, I trimmed the walls of the bottom of the frame off the kit, as you can see in the picture. I left the engine compartment walls on to allow for a good section to glue to. Now, once put together, you will not be able to tell that the walls are thicker in spots.

For now the project is on hold because I had purchased the old Eduard set a while ago, but I just looked at the instructions for the new set and WOW!! What a difference. Plus, I need to get some tread plate for the bottom of the interior.

Oh, and Dwight, if it is not too late, I would suggest making a badge with a jeep for the small AFV build. The jeep is small, tough and the outline is instantly recognizable. Well, it was just a thought... I am sure that no matter what you come up with, it will be great.Big Smile [:D]

I cannot express my sorrow! I feel really bad that I forgot to add Feldgrau23 on the front page!!!! Sorry!
I guess I overlooked your name, or did not read your initial post...:(Sad [:(]Banged Head [banghead]
I think that it would be in everyone's best interest if you created a weblink for our GB, Lizardqing2, that would really help us be able to display our work.
I started today on my M20, and after it is created, I would like to admit a hummer avenger into the build-maybe on a pic background of Washington DC-there were some of those there last year.
I would also like to say WELCOME to Spector82202, and LSyd, + the formidable Lizardqueen(top dog over Lizardqing of course)
I hope, that a badge might have a profile of a jeep-as I to agree that it is extremely recognizeable.

Thanks Edog,,,,, After hunting hi and low for a pic of the 222 I found a drawing of one and I will be danged. Great eagle eyes there edog. If you hadn't of pointed it out I would have never been the wiser thats for sure. If you could send that template out that would be great. I think I am going to try and remove that particular section of the turret and piece in the proper shaped piece. Well I haven't even began the build and already I am trying something new.

No harm Beav. Just didn't want to get left out thats all. I agree with the Jeep for the badge as well.

AH, that's sweet Feldgrau,lol
just a small mis-sight on my part-and I am glad that you pointed it out.
I think that I should add a list of what everyone is going to build-or possibly build, or is planing to...right behind their name-in liu of the fact that we don't have a websight-and I only have basic HTML coding knowledge

Chris it would be great if you could put something together for the build! At least you have basic HTML knowledge Beav, I have zero.

Great work Edog, I have been finishing off an old 222 for a dio, and had been looking at picture after picture of them and never spotted it either. I am going to prepare a bit of a post about another major problem with the kits soon. That screen thing. Really annoys me.

I happened on some treadplate in a Model Train store the other day. Said it was HO scale but it sure has big checkers if it is!

OK guys I have set up a page. The url for it is http://www.groupbuild.50megs.com you can make your submissions to groupbuild@firehousemail.com. You can post the in progress pics at ron's site and as you finish a build I'll post the finished pics and your write up on the site. If you can resize the pics that would be a great help for me as i have a cruddy dial up ,if not i can resize them too. Take a look and make sure I have your name on the site if not let me know.

Phroosh,

yah, i am not sure what to do with the tread plate on the roof. it is a funny pattern. Aber has something similar, but it is flat and not 3 dimensional like the actual thing. not sure if you have seen it or not, so here is a pic:

I was thinking about making my own from scratch, but that may be biting off more than I can chew. I am also not sure what to do about the 2cm gun mount. The Tamiya kit looks like it could use a lot of work. Anyway, let me know if you solve any of these problems.

Edog,

Same photo, no solutions!

I have been through the same ideas, and figured it was more than I could chew too!
I am tossing up between modifying the mesh that they provide for the grenade screen (I have the old 223 kit) and modifying some diamond shape mesh I have.

It is a it annoying that Tamiya have re-released both kits with fancy bits but haven't really done anything significant. The interior in the 223 is actually so bad it is quite funny! I am glad I didn't buy one thinking it was all new tooling.

We will sort it out one way or another mate!

Matt

Cheers for setting the site up Chris, you the man.

awsom, thanks for the site Chris.

Matt, there is a slim chance that i have an idea that might work. i was thinking if you fed some thin PE, through a couple of gears you may get something that looks right. I have some old lego gears i was going to try it with, but it looks like the teeth will be too big. If you don't know what i mean, i try it out, and fill you in if it is successful. It will at least be tricky though.

I think I would like to get in on this. I don't have a lot of experience in what you fellas are going for so please bear with me.

I would assume M113 and varients would be acceptable, correct? Or Humvees? I tend to build modern military mostly. About as far as I go back is the 1967 Israeli confiicts so I hope that isn't an issue.

Would it need to be a new kit or would a kit that I have already completed work? I have a few small vehicles already finished that could use a little extra detail that would be fun to submit. Do you want MM kits? I rarely buy Verlinden (etc.) add-ons anymore due to money constraints but I scratchbuild most of the conversions anyway so that is no big deal either way.

Just curious and very interested. Hope these aren't silly questions, but I would like to get the embarassment out of the way early....

Scorn, I'm sure the humvee would fit right in. Don't worry about experience, thats what GB are for is getting some extra experience. Build it however you want to. In my opinion scratch building would be better than buying and we could all learn a thing or two from seeing how you went about doing that.

Wonderful site!!! I just think that it is the coolest thing-and it is good that it is simple.

Scorn, humvee's are OK, so are M113's I think-any objections? anyways, I picked up an Avenger Humvee from Italeri that I am looking forward to.

Lizard, if I could add one thing to your sight it would be as follows
"beav"
"M20, Quad"
I hope that you allow that mod to your site--:)

OH YEAH, BiG NEWS I started the M20-only steps one and two, and it looks to be a lot simpler than my Italeri M8 mess-like 20 different rods, and brakes, and suspension units, and it was my first model-so a mess-but gee, only ONE piece for the drive train??
wow
